ST. MARY PARISH JUNIOR LIVESTOCK PROGRAM 2015 RULES & REGULATIONS A. ELIGIBILITY -Students, ages 9 to 20 (before 1/1/15), are eligible to enroll in the 4-H livestock program. Livestock participants must be properly enrolled in 4-H or FFA by November 1st of the year validations and possession dates are enforced. B. POSSESSION REQUIREMENTS - Exhibitors must have animals in their possession and under their personal care on or before the following possession dates December 4, 2014. C. PARISH LIVESTOCK SHOW - GENERAL RULES 1. All rules and regulations stated in the LSU State Show Catalog will be enforced at the Parish Show, unless otherwise stated in the Parish Show Handbook. You may view the catalog online at any time at http://www.agctr.lsu.edu/livestockshow/. 2. Only bona-fide 4-H and FFA members may enter animals in the Jr. Fair and Livestock Show. 3. School Board Policy - According to the St. Mary Parish School Board Policy, NO ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES & TABACO PRODUCTS are allowed on school premises. This includes the area in and around the livestock show barn. EVERYONE who attends our Parish Livestock Show is required to abide by this policy. 4. All livestock must be in the barn by the arrival deadlines and may not leave until the release times (both are listed in the show schedule) unless prior approval is given by the 4-H Agent. All sale animals must remain at the barn until the conclusion of the sale. 5. Trailer parking is located in the parking lot near the Tennis Courts. All trailers must be parked there. Do not park vehicles in areas which will block the loading and unloading zones near the barn. 6. Each rabbit entered in the 2015 parish show will be charged an entry fee of one dollar ($1.00) per animal. This entry fee will be used for show operations. 7. Any individual caught violating the Code of Ethics and/or drug use rules and regulations as listed in the State Show Catalog will be barred from the St. Mary Parish Jr. Fair and Livestock Show for a period of two years. If the individual has a second violation, he/she will be barred for a period of 6 years. 8. Only one entry per class number is allowed. Exhibitor is responsible for knowing breed, variety and class (sex and age) of rabbit. Animals entered incorrectly may be disqualified. See rabbit class list on back. 9. Animals that are uncontrollable will be removed from the show! 10. 4-H and FFA members will be responsible for their animals. Exhibitors are responsible for feeding, watering, and caring for their animals while on the fair grounds. Exhibitors must bring feed and water containers for cages. Pens and/or tie spaces shall be kept neat and clean at all times. Stall space and cages will be furnished to all animals on a first come, first serve basis. Exhibitors should make sure animals are caged or tied before leaving livestock area. 11. All animals to be entered must conform to state regulations of the Livestock Sanitary Board. All animals will be inspected for disease. Any animals found to be diseased will be dismissed from the fair grounds. See health rules listed for the animal you will be exhibiting. 12. In conjunction with the market animal sale, the Champion Meat Pen of Rabbits, and Reserve Champion Meat Pen of Rabbits will be sold. Rabbit Meat Pens show at the Parish Show only.

13. Rabbits can be picked up Saturday either between 9:00 and 11:00 or after the Awards Ceremony and sale of the market animals. Rabbit and poultry exhibitors must present their ticket stubs in order to claim their animals. All animals have to be picked up by 4:00 p.m. 14. Important * - Any rabbit found to be ill will be disqualified by the superintendent and will have to be removed from the fairgrounds. Rabbits must be in good health. Listed below are reasons for disqualification: Ear cankers (mites) Sore hocks Infections or bleeding Altering appearance Tumors or abnormal swelling Ruptures or hernias Torn ears or with portion missing Missing or broken tooth or teeth (abnormal teeth alignment) Missing toenail(s) Blindness Injuries even if it occurs during show D. MEAT PENS RULES Meat pens entered must meet the following conditions: 1. Exhibit three rabbits of same breed and color or variety. 2. They should be of equal size, litter mates, not over 5 pounds in weight each, and not over 69 days of age. 3. They can be opposite or like sex. 4. Rabbits of marked breeds must be marked with no disqualifications. If not, the entire pen can be disqualified. 5. Meat pen of all three rabbits cannot weigh less than 10 pounds or more than 15 pounds, with no single rabbit weighing more than 5 pounds. 6. An elimination or disqualification of a single rabbit in the meat pen will eliminate or disqualify the entry. 7. Only one meat pen entry allowed per exhibitor. E. ST. MARY PARISH PREMIER EXHIBITOR PROGRAM The Premier Exhibitor Program is designed to place emphasis and recognition on the exhibitor s knowledge and skills in the 4-H/FFA beef, dairy, poultry, sheep, goat, rabbit and swine projects. The program provides additional awards and recognition to exhibitors at the St. Mary Parish Jr. Fair Livestock Show. This program is open to all Bona-fide St. Mary Parish 4-H/FFA exhibitors. PREMIER EXHIBITOR GENERAL RULES 1. The St. Mary Parish Premier Exhibitor Program is optional. To participate, an exhibitor must be available for the different activities at the specified times, and must submit their entry form by the specified due date. 2. All livestock exhibitors are eligible to compete. There will be an Elementary Division for 9-12 years old, a Junior Division for 13-14 years old and a Senior Division for 15 years old and older in each species. 3. Premier Exhibitor Programs are available for beef, dairy, poultry, sheep, goat, swine and rabbit. 4. An exhibitor must be properly entered and exhibit the specie(s) in which they wish to participate at the St. Mary Parish Livestock Show. An exhibitor may enter contests in more than one species. 5. All entry forms for the Parish, District and State Premier Exhibitor Contests must be returned to your Parish 4-H Agent s Office by December 4, 2014. Late entries will not be accepted. 6. Written exams will be taken from 4-H project books & the St. Mary Parish 4-H & FFA Livestock Show Handbook. The project books are available from your parish 4-H office. 7. Completing the attached entry form will enter you in the St. Mary Parish, Acadiana District and State Premier Exhibitor Program. A separate resume/entry form must be completed for the State Premier Exhibitor Programs; 4-H agents will contact each contestant individually with details after parish registration is due. 8. All ties will be broken using the following system in the order listed below: 1) Score on Tie-Breaker Questions 2) Exam Score 3) Showmanship Score 9. Participants will be immediately disqualified if they are caught cheating on the exam or talking during the exam. 10. For an exam to be counted as valid at least 60% must be correct, anything under this 60% will be disqualified and considered not valid for the Premier Exhibitor contest. 11. All decisions are final and are not subject to protests. F. RABBIT CLASSES RULES DEFINITION OF CLASSES Senior a) Rabbits six months of age and over in those breeds that do not have an intermediate class. Example: Junior and Senior. b) Rabbits eight months of age and over in those breeds having an intermediate class. Example: Junior, Intermediate, Senior. Intermediate Rabbits over six months of age and under eight months in those breeds which have three classes Junior, Intermediate, and Senior. Junior Rabbits less than six months of age.

PARISH LIVESTOCK SALE 1. The St. Mary Parish Livestock Sale/Auction is not a part of the 4-H/FFA program; this is a separate part of the show and is governed by the St. Mary Parish Fair Association. 2. An exhibitor will be allowed to sell one market animal at the parish livestock show. Exception: If an exhibitor receives Champion and Reserve Champion he/she will be allowed to sell both animals. It is possible that one exhibitor would receive Champion and Reserve Champion with more than one species. If this is the case, the exhibitor will be allowed to sell all of the Champion and/or Reserve Champions he/she has exhibited. 3. Market animals not meeting parish weight requirements are ineligible for the sale. 4. Exhibitors are required to be on time for the sale. It is the responsibility of the exhibitor to know the sale order and present his/her own animal. Exhibitors must be appropriately dressed and have the animal properly groomed and cleaned. An exhibitor will not be allowed to present another person's animal in the sale unless prior approval is granted by the 4-H Agent. 5. Exhibitor Responsibility- It is the responsibility of the exhibitor to contact the buyer after the sale to thank him/her and to make arrangements for slaughter. Exhibitors will retain ownership of the animal sold until he/she has completed showing in the district and/or state shows. The buyer must receive the actual animal that was purchased. Substitutions are not allowed. IMPORTANT: Withdrawal periods on any medications given to market animals must be adhered to before slaughter. F. AWARDS 1. All awards are donated by the St. Mary Parish Fair Association and will be announced at a later date. 2. If you have any questions feel free to contact the St. Mary Parish 4-H Office. 3. NO Premiums are offered at this show.

Market Hogs/Commercial Gilts must be checked in on Thursday, January 22. No market hogs will be accepted after 6:00 p.m.. All other Market, Breeding and Commercial Animals can be checked in at this time. Weigh-in of market hogs/commercial gilts. (Scales close Promptly at 6 p.m.) ALL FACILITIES CLOSE. Everyone must be off school campus. All animals must be in facility: poultry, rabbits, goats, sheep and lambs, beef, swine breeding entries. Weigh-in of market goats and market lambs. NO animals will be accepted after 9:00 a.m., Friday! Premier Exhibitor written tests - Room 121 (FFA Classroom) Judge Poultry Judge Breeding/Market & Commercial Beef, Beef Showmanship Judge Breeding/Market & Commercial Dairy, Dairy Showmanship Judge Breeding/Market & Commercial Goats, Goat Showmanship Judge Breeding/Market & Commercial Lamb, Lamb Showmanship Pee Wee Lamb/Goat Show (Ages 4-8) Judge Breeding/Market & Commercial Swine, Swine Showmanship Pee Wee Swine Show (Ages 4-8) Judge Rabbits ALL FACILITIES CLOSE. Everyone must be off school campus. Rabbits and poultry can be released. No release from 11:00 a.m. until after Awards Presentation and sale of market animals. You must have your ticket stub to pick up rabbits and poultry. Awards Presentation Livestock and Homemaking Division Sale of Market Animals. (Rabbit and Poultry Barns are closed during presentation and sale) Reopen Rabbit and Poultry Barns Release of all animals. All animals off fairgrounds *Note: The decision of the judges as entered in the books will be final. All exhibited animals must remain on fair grounds until time of release on Saturday, January 24. All animals must be removed from fair grounds by 4:00 p.m. Exhibitors must help with the clean up before leaving with their animals.
