Welcome Thank you for purchasing the GrafxWerks door sill inserts. Although the installation of this product is rather detailed, with patience and basic automotive know-how, you should be enjoying your new illuminated door sill inserts for years to come. These installation instructions assume you have basic knowledge of automotive systems and that you understand the risks associated with modifying your vehicle. We can not be held liable for injury or damage to yourself or your vehicle, however caused. CAUTION: Much like HID lighting, these door sills operate at high voltage (300 volts). Use extreme caution and do not connect the inverter until all wiring is complete. Document Overview This installation documentation is broken into 4 sections: Steps A1-A2 Removing the existing sills Steps B1-B15 Installing the illuminated inserts into your existing door sills Steps P1-P22 Installing the passenger side door sill Steps D1-D8 Installing the driver s side door sill Parts Overview Parts Included 2 Door Sill Inserts 2 Power Inverters with Connectors 2 Plastic Connector Housings 4 Wire Taps (if applicable) Zip Tie to help fish wiring Warning Decals Parts/Tools Required Drill and ½ Drill Bit or Dremel Tool and cutting wheel Marking Pen (White-Out or Touch-Up Paint works well) Glue Gun or Silicone Electrical Tape Flat-Head Screwdriver Phillips Screwdriver Needle-Nose Pliers Knife/Wire Strippers Hairdryer

Maintenance/Care Never subject the door sill inserts to direct spray of water. If the sill inserts become dirty, clean them with a damp towel do not use any chemicals on the sill inserts warm water works best. Harsh chemicals will damage your door sill inserts. We are not responsible for damaged caused by improper care.

Section A Removing the Existing Sills

Step A-1 To begin, you must remove the door sills from the vehicle. First, label the sills with the provided Driver s Side and Passenger Side stickers, so that you do not mix them up. Start with the passenger side sill. Wrap a flat-head screwdriver with a thin rag and carefully insert it underneath the sill. Apply pressure vertically until you can reach your fingers underneath. There are 5 fasteners holding the sill in place they are evenly spaced across the length of the sill.

Step A-2 Pull straight up to release the sill, being careful not to damage the sill. Repeat steps A1 and A2 for the driver s side sill.

Section B Installing the Illuminated Door Sill Inserts

Step B-1 Carefully pry up one end of the door sill insert using a flat head screwdriver. Be careful not to damage the plastic as it is quite soft. It may be helpful to use a knife to lift the edge, then use a screwdriver to pry the insert up.

Step B-2 Once you ve lifted the sill with the screwdriver, grab ahold of the insert and pull it straight out. You may need to warm the insert with a hairdryer to help release the adhesive.

Step B-3 With the insert completely removed, clean up any remaining adhesive using Goo Gone or another suitable adhesive remover. A small amount of remaining adhesive residue is acceptable provided the new insert can sit flat.

Step B-4 Locate one of the inserts and separate the wires if necessary. Be careful to avoid bending the insert to prevent damage.

Step B-5 The door sill insert has two connectors, one at each end. Use caution not to damage these connectors when handling the inserts.

Step B-6 Place the door sill inlay above the sill as shown. This will allow you to mark the position of the wire connectors.

Step B-7 Mark the position of the holes with paint or white-out. This will allow you to drill/dremel the holes in the proper location. Carefully cut out the holes with the tool of your choice.

Step B-8 On the rear of the door sill, there are 5 studs that fasten the sill to the vehicle. You must remove one of these studs to allow the wires to pass through and into the vehicle. We recommend removing the stud second-closest to the rear of the vehicle (Driver s side door sill shown).

Step B-9 After cutting the holes, re-check your alignment to ensure the wires will pass through and the insert will lay flat.

Step B-9 - Continued On the reverse side, note that the stud has been removed with the Dremel tool.

Step B-10 Pass the wires through the holes in the door sill.

Step B-11 Remove the double-sided tape from the rear of the door sill insert. Avoid touching the exposed tape at this point instead, handle the insert by gripping the edges.

Step B-12 Press the door sill insert firmly into place.

Step B-13 It is imperative that you seal the connector to prevent water damage or a short circuit. The door sill operates at 300 volts!

Step B-14 Fill the void where the connector passes through with glue gun glue or silicone. This step is essential to prevent the sills from short-circuiting, which could cause a fire.

Step B-15 Once the silicone or glue has dried, apply the provided warning decals to further seal the connection. Ensure both connections are sealed, and you are done!

Section P Installing the Passenger Side Door Sill and Wiring

Step P-1 With the sill completely removed, you can see the 5 plastic retainer clips that hold the sill in place. You must remove one of these retainer clips to allow the wires to pass through into the vehicle. We recommend removing the second-last retainer clip.

Step P-1 - Continued To remove the retainer clip, carefully grab one side of the inner clip with needle-nose pliers. Use a flat-head screwdriver to release the retainer clip and pull it straight out.

Step P-2 Next, you must remove the inner door sill trim strip. This piece is difficult to remove and requires a significant amount of force. Reach behind it where it meets up with the interior panel behind the seat, and slide it forward as much as possible. Then, grab the sill and pull it up and toward the front of the vehicle.

Step P-3 This picture shows the inner door sill trim strip removed. Note that several of the white plastic rivets (8 in total, 3 are not shown here) will be left behind.

Step P-4 Remove any of the remaining white plastic rivets by prying them out with needle-nose pliers.

Step P-4 - Continued You should have recovered 8 of the white plastic rivets.

Step P-5 Back in Step P-1, we removed the second-last black plastic retainer clip from the door sill. Re-insert the white plastic rivets into the inner door sill trim strip, but omit the corresponding plastic rivet this is where the wire will pass through into the vehicle. Set this part aside for now, you won t be reinstalling it until later.

Step P-6 Now the tricky part! You must fish a wire through the frame of the vehicle to power the new illuminated door sills. Bend the end of the provided zip tie 90 degrees. Slide it through the upper hole down to the lower hole, and pull it out as shown. You may need to use the needle-nose pliers to help fish the zip tie through the lower hole.

Step P-7 Tape the wire from the illuminated door sill to the zip tie, and carefully pull it back through the hole. Voila!

Step P-8 As you can see, the wires are now neatly pulled through. Also note in this picture that the stud has been removed from the door sill, in order to allow the wires to pass through without being damaged. Neatly route the wires along the sill, and then firmly press the door sill into place.

Step P-8 - Continued The illuminated door sill is now installed! You should have several inches of extra wire inside the vehicle for now, we will work on connections at the footwell light, but we will come back to this later.

Step P-9 Since the illuminated door sill gets its power from the footwell lighting, lets remove the footwell light now. Carefully slide a flat-head screwdriver into the notch in the footwell light lens, and pop it out.

Step P-10 The footwell light will fall out when removed. Disconnect the connector from the lens and set the lens aside.

Step P-11 In order to access the vehicle wiring for the door sill on the passenger side, you must remove the glove box. First, we recommend emptying the contents of your glove box to prevent an unfortunate mishap. The glove box is held in place by 6 Phillips-head screws. The first, shown below, is located directly below the glove box, close to the door.

Step P-12 Next, the 3 Phillips-head screws across the top inside edge of the glove box must be removed. Note that this picture is shown with the glove box door completely removed, which is unnecessary.

Step P-13 There is a Phillips-head screw hidden on the left side of the glove box (closest to the driver), behind the glove box support strut. Note that this picture is shown with the glove box door completely removed, which is unnecessary.

Step P-14 The final Phillips-head screw is located behind the strap on the right side of the glove box (closest to the door). With all the screws removed, pull the glove box straight out, being careful not to damage the wiring. It may catch slightly on the upper edge of he dash if so, wiggle it slightly. Note that this picture is shown with the glove box door completely removed, which is unnecessary.

Step P-15 Finally! With the glove box assembly completely removed, your view should look something like this. The dangling wire on the left is the footwell light; the dangling wire on the right connects to the glove box lights.

Step P-16 Mount the inverter as shown, with the red/black wires facing the center of the vehicle. DO NOT CONNECT THE INVERTER UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES! You will connect the connector after all wiring is finished.

Step P-17 (Standard Door Sill Inserts) If you purchased the standard door sill inserts, you must tap the wiring that runs to the footwell light. T-Taps are provided to connect to the existing wiring. DO NOT CONNECT THE INVERTER UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!

Step P-17 (Custom Door Sill Inserts) If you purchased the custom door sill inserts, run the new connector down through where the footwell light is mounted, and remove the original connector. DO NOT CONNECT THE INVERTER UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!

Step P-18 Run the wiring from the inverter down to the door sill, carefully tucking it in behind the footwell panels, carpet, and the kick panel. DO NOT CONNECT THE INVERTER UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!

Step P-19 You should now have the wires from the inverter and the wiring from the door sill meeting in the door sill area. We have propped the carpet back using the OEM flashlight to expose the vehicle wiring harness. DO NOT CONNECT THE INVERTER UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!

Step P-20 Install the plastic connector housing onto the terminals. They only install one way (you can look into the connector to see how to install it) when properly inserted, they will click into place. Polarity does not matter on this connector. Connect the harness to the sill.

Step P-21 (Standard Door Sill Inserts) Now you may connect the inverter to the footwell lighting harness! Connect the connectors from the inverter to the T-Taps you installed on the footwell light harness. POLARITY MATTERS! On the footwell light circuit, the Negative wire goes to PIN 1 of the connector. The Positive wire goes to Pin 3 of the connector. If the light does not illuminate, close all doors and then re-open the passenger door. The footwell light should now be on and your illuminated door sills should be working! If the door sill inserts is still not illuminating, verify that you have not reversed the positive/negative connections.

Step P-21 (Custom Door Sill Inserts) Now you may connect the inverter to the footwell lighting harness! Connect the other end of the new harness to the footwell light and verify that the light is working. If the light does not illuminate, close all doors and then re-open the passenger door. The footwell light should now be on and your illuminated door sills should be working!

Step P-22 Reinstall the glove box (don t forget to reconnect the wiring for the glove box light) and the inner door sill trim strip. You re finished the passenger side!

Section D Installing the Driver s Side Door Sill and Wiring

Step D-1 Repeat Steps P1-P8 to remove the driver s side door sill and to install the new illuminated sill. Next, locate and remove the driver s side footwell light. Simply insert a flat-head screwdriver and pop it out. Disconnect the light and set it aside.

Step D-2 Locate and remove the 3 Phillips-head screws under the driver s side kick panel.

Step D-3 Locate and remove the screw-in rivet behind the brake pedal. Turn it 90 degrees counter-clockwise to release the rivet.

Step D-4 Locate and remove the plastic rivet that holds the kick panel to the center console. Pry the center part of the rivet out with a flat-head screwdriver and remove.

Step D-5 Finally, there are 2 clips under the steering wheel that secure the kick panel in place. Pull the kick panel straight down and it will release. You should see something like this.

Step D-6 Mount the inverter on the panel as shown. Run the new connector into the area where the footwell light mounts. DO NOT CONNECT THE INVERTER UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES! You will connect the connector after all wiring is finished.

Step D-7 Repeat Steps P18-P20 to route the wire from the inverter down behind the kick panel and across to the sill. Now you may connect the inverter to the footwell lighting harness! Reconnect the footwell light as well. Connect the other end of the new harness to the footwell light and verify that the light is working. If the light does not illuminate, close all doors and then re-open the driver s door. The footwell light should now be on and your illuminated door sills should be working!

Step D-8 Reinstall the kick panel and the inner door sill trim strip. You re finished - enjoy!
