The meeting commenced at 7:15 p.m. 1. Progress on organizing the 45 th CHECSS Anniversary Gala Dinner (18.12.2010) 1.1 The Chairman welcomed Teacher Ms. Angel Wong, Convener of the school s Working Party on 45 th CHECSS Anniversary Gala Dinner (WP). The 1 st WP meeting held on 24 April 2010 was also attended by the Chairman and the OBA s Organizing Committee (Dr. Alvin Fung, Yip Wai Yuen, Ricky Ng, Wong Kwok Keung and David Yiu). Ms. Wong tabled a copy of the minutes and briefed members on the proposals/ progress which covered ticketing, publicity, souvenir, guest list, event booklet, photography and financial arrangements. The WP met again on 28 May. 1.2 Members further deliberated on the following items: a) Guest list The School prepared a list with 55 former teachers while it was noted that only 22 former teachers had attended the 40 th Anniversary dinner. Members agreed to increase OBA s sponsorship if necessary although only two tables were included in the original budget. Staff of the school s general office would help to phone these former teachers, followed by issue of official invitation card with a target confirmation of attendance by late August/ early September. YY Chan b) Souvenirs Members agreed to prepare a gift set comprising a CD on the past issues of School Magazines, a ceramic cup and a school tie. The ticket price would be revised from $500 to $550 to include the gift set for each participant. Vincent Lau would sponsor the preparation of 600 sets of CD. A counter will also be set up at the dinner venue for advance reservation of the 45 th Anniversary School Magazine to be purchased from the school. d) Event Booklet It would include the programme rundown, the speeches from the School Principal and the OBA Chairman, a synopsis of the major CHECSS events, an introduction to OBA, its development and an application form for membership. Members are requested to provide photos, if any, on the past activities of CHECSS. In addition, the School would arrange for each table a copy of the latest publication on Alumni The Way We Were II for circulation to participants. The next issue of The Way We Were III would also be circulated if published in time. Only 10 old boys had so far accepted the invitation from Ms. Weston, the school s NET teacher for interview by students. All OBA EC members were requested to provide their email addresses for Ms Weston to contact them if not yet done so. all ExCos e) Advertisement The school planned to place a publicity supplement on the 45 th Anniversary in the second week of October in Ming Pao and the Kung Kao Po. Members considered it appropriate to make use of the 1/10 or 1/9 space provided by the school for making an announcement by OBA i.e. no need for OBA to place a separate advertisement on another date. Chairman would ask for the right member to do the design, if needed. Chairman 1.3 Regarding the composition of the Organizing Committee, a) Mr. Simon Lam would migrate to the United States. Members unanimously supported that Mr. Paul Au, Hon. Treasurer, would take over as the person in charge of the Finance Sub-group. b) Mr. Wong Hiu Shun, Chase would be an additional working member to help the Venue decoration Sub-group. Paul Au 1.4 Regarding nomination for the Master of Ceremony, the suggestion was to request Mr. Chow Kwok Fung, MC of the 40 th Anniversary Dinner to serve again or to invite another old boy, Mr. Chow Man Chung of RTHK to help this time. As proposed by Vincent Lau and seconded by Dr. Alvin Fung, the Notes of the 3 rd Meeting held on 9.4.2010 were adopted by members. 3. Matters arising from the Last Meeting 3.1 Regarding item 2 on the School Relocation Project, a) the Chairman had arranged a briefing session by Mrs. Fanny Lam at the school and it was understood that the track record of CHECSS on ESR would be a strength. The large expenditures in major repairs in recent years also proved that the campus was too old to operate efficiently. b) The Chairman suggested that the new School Campus could pilot on the use of LED lights and the school could bid for the green education fund from Education Bureau. The Principal confirmed that Teacher Leung Kam Hung of the Environment Health Committee was working on various sustainable development projects. c) Vincent Lau recalled that Mr. Richard Nixon, the former US President had visited Choi Hung Estate in 1968. He suggested that it would be a heritage treasure if the Foundation Stone could be retained. 3.2 Regarding item 4, a) Gary Leung confirmed that the addresses and telephone numbers of graduates had been removed from the softcopy of the past School Magazines. He would return the revised version to Vincent Lau for preparation of CDs as part of the Souvenir set for the 45 th Anniversary Gala Dinner. b) Mr. Philip Chan, overseas EC member, would try to provide some photo of overseas activities when available. c) Vincent Lau reported that he did not provide the service of scanning the past issues of School News (A3 size) because it was eventually done by the school s staff. d) Regarding the past OBA activities, Ms. Hau would provide Gary Leung with the photos of the visits to CLP s Guangdong Nuclear Power Station (Daya Bay) on 1.12.2007 and the HK Electric s Power and Wind Turbine Plant (Lamma Island) on 21.1.2009; and the Career Talk conducted at the School on 6.6.2009. e) The study tour to the Dr. Sun Yat-sen Museum and HKU led by Ms. Chu Pui-lui and 8 old boys had been held on 15 May 2010 morning with very positive feedback from the 20 participating students. f) As suggested by Vincent Lau, the feasibility of setting up an Education Foundation would be deferred. 4. Scholarship/ Souvenir for an Old Boy breaking the HK 100m sprint record Members were excited to learn that old boy Tsui Chi-ho had achieved a new HK Record at 10.28 seconds in the 100m athletic event on 16 May. To congratulate and show appreciation to him, a) the Chairman would present him a sports scholarship of $3,000; b) the OBA would present him through the school a Plaque as a souvenir to record his outstanding achievement; and c) the School would arrange a press interview in recognition of CHECSS old boy s outstanding performance and as a role model for fellow students. Chairman & Principal Li 5. Sponsorship of other activities Ms. YY Chan tabled the proposal to seek sponsorship from the OBA for 2010/11. 2b) Term time and study motivation/ skills $2,000 course for students of F.1-3 Sport Training 3. Assistant coach 30 sessions at $300 each $9,000 for Athletes team (Sept. 2010 August 2011 Total $29,000 6. Election of Assistant Hon. Treasurer The meeting recorded a vote of thanks to Mr. Simon Lam for his past contributions to OBA and wished him all the best upon his migration to the USA in October. Mr. Yiu Cheung To, David was nominated and approved by members with unanimity to take up the office of Assistant Hon. Treasurer of the CHECSS OBA. The Chairman and Hon. Treasurer would arrange the change of signatures for the OBA bank account accordingly in due course. Chairman, Paul Au & David Yiu 7. Any Other Business The Chairman, Vincent Lau, Alan Chan and Albert Su would participate in the Speech Day on 11 June. Albert Su and Vincent Lau would attend the CHECSS Briefing Session to parents of new Form 1 students scheduled for 12 July 2010 (Monday). Albert Su & Vincent Lau 8. There being no further business, the meeting closed at 9:35 p.m. The date of the next meeting is tentatively scheduled for early September 2010.
