7 BSc Graduation Requirements Award of a BSc degree General Talk, Prof. W K Chan (2:40 3:40 pm, CPD LG.07-10) To be eligible for the award of the degree of Bachelor of Science, students must fulfill the following requirements: (i) (ii) Satisfied the requirements in UG5 of the Regulations for First Degree Curricula #; Passed not fewer than 240 credits, comprising 96 credits of the required courses as prescribed in the major programme of the BSc degree curriculum. #UG5specifies that students have to successfully complete: (a) 12 credits in English language enhancement, including 6 credits in Core University English 1 (i.e. CAES1000) and 6 credits in an English in the Discipline course 2 (i.e.caes9820 Academic English for Science Students); (b) 6 credits in Chinese language enhancement 3 (i.e. CSCI9001 Practical Chinese for Science Students); (c) 36 credits of courses in the Common Core Curriculum, comprising at least one and not more than two courses from each Area of Inquiry with not more than one course from the same Area of Inquiry being selected within one academic year except where candidates are required to make up for failed credits; and (d) a capstone experience as specified in the syllabuses of the degree curriculum. 1, 2, 3 Please refer to the Handbook for BSc Students (4-year curriculum) P. 4 for the footnote. 7

8 Declaration of Major/Minor General Talk, Prof. W K Chan (2:40 3:40 pm, CPD LG.07-10) You have to declare your primary Science major online during the course selection period in August before the start of your third year of study, the latest. After that, you can still change the declared major as long as the online course selection system is opened in the 1st semester of your last academic year for graduation. Some non-science faculties may set a minimum requirement for their majors and minors offered. You should check with the relevant Faculty for the detailed requirements. 8

9 Science Course An introductory Science course means any levels 1 and 2 course offered by the Faculty of Science and the Department of Biochemistry. An advanced Science course means any levels 3, 4 and above course. Introductory level course Course code starting with 1or2 e.g. CHEM1042 General chemistry, CHEM2541 Introductory physical chemistry Advanced level course Course code starting with 3, 4 or 6 e.g. CHEM3341 Inorganic chemistry II CHEM4443 Integrated organic synthesis 9

You are strongly encouraged to take more Chemistry courses as electives! (You have 90 credits for electives.) 10
