We wish you a joyous Christmas and a prosperous New Year! 2013 is a year of major achievements, we organised various major events, launched innovative services, successfully promoted energy conservation as well as delivered higher quality of service to customers. In early this year, CLP joined forces with Christian Alliance SW Chan Memorial College to build Hong Kong s first campus Eco-Gym. It aimed to educate the students about the importance of energy saving. Leverage on this concept, CLP also launched a School and Home Energy Saving Scheme at primary and secondary schools as well as among students families. To encourage more participation, the scheme also offered a variety of free energy-saving services. The second GREEN PLUS Recognition Award continued to utilize CLP s expertise to help different industries to implement energy efficient initiatives and the programme gave STAR Awards for the best energy-saving performers. A remarkable result was achieved, the application numbers jumped to a new high of 2,400 and engaged more than 390 organisations. Among the applicants, 38 finalists received awards recognising their outstanding commitment to environmental protection. In addition, CLP held its first Green Building Symposium, Jointly Build a Green Metropolitan. Experts from different sectors, government bodies and property management companies shared their successful experiences in planning and implementing green building practices as CLP helped customers to achieve their building emission reduction. Furthermore, the first Data Centre Symposium drew government officials, data centre operators and users to support. A number of industry professionals were invited to conduct the presentation regarding the challenges of operating data centres in a sustainable and environmental friendly manner. CLP has also taken the initiative to support the development of Hong Kong data centres in a green and economical way. It has set up a dedicated team to provide relevant information to customers. To help businesses improve their energy management, an Energy Benchmarking Service dedicated to Hong Kong s data centre industry has been launched to allow operators to better understand their own energy consumption and to enhance their own efficiency compared to their industry peers. We also enhanced the Meter Online Service including a 7-Day Energy Forecast which uses the latest weather information to predict energy consumption. This service helps customers to manage their energy consumption in a more systematic way, thus enhance the overall energy efficiency of commercial buildings. The GREEN PLUS Experience Centre in Sham Shui Po is currently under renovation and will be resumed in the first half of The centre will provide an interactive platform and the multimedia channels for customers to acquire energy conservation information, so that the customers can apply energy efficiency in daily work and life. 2 CLP Launched Energy Benchmarking Service at its First Data Centre Symposium CLP Launched Energy Benchmarking Service at its First Data Centre Symposium On 25 September, CLP Power unveiled an Energy Benchmarking Service designed specifically for the Hong Kong Data Centre industry at its first Data Centre Symposium. The benchmarking service is part of CLP Power s efforts to promote energy efficiency in the business sector, enables data centre operators to better understand their energy consumption relative to their industry peers as well as share and access local and overseas best practices. Hong Kong government officials including Mr Daniel Lai, BBS, JP, Government Chief Information Officer and the Honourable Charles Mok, Legislative Councillor (Information Technology) conducted the presentation in the symposium along with industry experts such as Forrester Research, data centre operators including NTT Com Asia and Global Switch. Attendees included over 200 industry professionals who face the challenges of operating green and sustainable data centres. At the symposium, CLP Power shared the initial results of its energy benchmarking service, which was well received by the interested audience. The Energy Benchmarking Service provides participants with: an understanding of their energy performance relative to their peers, including their Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) against their peers in various dimensions such as trade, size and grade; insights into best practices deployed in Hong Kong and overseas; and a customised report that could help data centres implement initiatives to save energy and costs. 3 CLP s First Green Building Symposium Jointly Build a Green Metropolitan CLP s First Green Building Symposium Jointly Build a Green Metropolitan After the government fully implemented the Buildings Energy Efficiency Ordinance in September last year, the topic of green buildings has drawn widespread attention particularly in business sector of Hong Kong. In view of this, CLP held a green building symposium on 1 November with the tagline of Jointly Build a Green Metropolitan. Many distinguished guests, experts, companies from different sectors and property management companies were invited to discuss their experiences in implementing green building practices. The participants would be inspired to integrate green elements into their building design and energy management which is also aligning with the government s objective of building a green city together. The symposium invited Ir Dr the Honourable Lo Wai Kwok, Legislative Councillor (Engineering) and Ir Harry Lai, Assistant Director (Electricity & Energy Efficiency) of Electrical and Mechanical Services Department, Ir Conrad Wong, Chairman of Hong Kong Green Building Council and industry representatives to serve as guest speakers. Mr. Lai advised how to comply with regulations and introduced energy-saving technology to achieve energy-efficient buildings. The guest speakers also analysed different successful cases. Kai Shing Management Services Limited shared its implementation of energy-saving plans. Airport Authority Hong Kong recalled its experience building Hong Kong International Airport as the world s greenest airport. The Hong Kong Green Building Council shared energy-saving experience from the perspective of investment and cost effectiveness. Sino Estates Management Limited introduced Buildings Energy Efficiency Ordinance audits for compliance and energy saving. All the participants greatly appreciated the sharing of experiences. As the green partner in promoting environmental protection, CLP also introduced a new and enhanced Meter Online service. It contains a 7-Day Energy Forecast indicating energy consumption forecast based on the latest weather information provided by Hong Kong Observatory. The feature helps customers manage their energy consumption in a more systematic way, thus conserving energy and improving the overall energy efficiency of their commercial buildings. In this year CLP addressed electricity demand management by launching a number of trial schemes, helping commercial customers such as hotels, shopping malls and universities to manage their consumption. This encouraged them to adjust their energy consumption habits and thus contribute to environmental protection. In future, CLP will keep launching energy conservation services and serve as green partner in supporting customers to achieve building emissions reduction. 4 Sino Estates Management First to Experience Enhanced Meter Online Service Sino Estates Management First to Experience Enhanced Meter Online Service CLP s Meter Online service provides customers with a simple and convenient way to access their most up-to-date load profile data. In addition to understanding their energy consumption pattern, customers will be in a better position to manage their energy consumption and demand. Recently, CLP has enhanced the Meter Online service by adding a number of innovative and optimized features, including a 7-Day Energy Forecast that uses the latest weather information to predict energy consumption. The Load Profile Download tool allows simple, single mass downloads of load profile data of up to ten accounts or meters for one-year* while the Proactive Energy Management system offers alerts to designated recipients when their energy consumption exceeds pre-set limits. After the service upgrade, CLP invited Sino Estates Management Limited to experience the service in its Tsim Sha Tsui Centre. Mr. Tse, Maintenance Manager of Sino Estates Management Limited, mentioned, With the new service and in anticipation of high consumption days, we can better manage electricity consumption and therefore have more time to coordinate with related departments. Also, we can fine tune the operating hours, sequence of chiller units and step up maintenance for the air conditioning system in advance to optimize energy efficiency. In general, we can achieve energy saving of 3 to 5 percent. The new features also help companies and operational teams to jointly develop practical procedures, ensuring effective consumption control without compromising the quality of service. After using the enhanced Meter Online service, the energy consumption of Tsim Sha Tsui Centre has been improved significantly. The new features contributed to energy management, not only save time but also increase the efficiency of commercial facilities. 5 CLP launched the Application Progress Tracking Service for a brand-new Customer Experience CLP launched the Application Progress Tracking Service for a brand-new Customer Experience CLP devotes to providing customers with the highest-quality customer services and looks for continuous improvement. Starting from 21 October, CLP successfully launched a new Application Progress Tracking Service, which created a new chapter of CLP in achieving customer service excellence. CLP is the first local utility in Hong Kong to provide this kind of service, enabling customers, who applied for New Supply / Change Load, to check their application status, with latest application progress and tentative completion date, through the online platforms at anytime for better planning for work or personal living. CLP customers not only can check their application status and tentative completion date via the online platforms, but also receive SMS for customers attention after the completion of key application stages. Customers also can enjoy this new online service right after their application for New Supply / Change Load, without any prior registration. This new service will definitely bring a higher level of convenience to CLP customers in the application process.
