SAXON WARRIOR TOUR 2015 THURSDAY 8TH TO SUNDAY 18TH OCTOBER 2015
I am pleased to give you the details for a tour to the Czech Republic and Germany to take place from Thursday 8th to Sunday 18 th October.2015 Highlights will include main line steam specials around Prague as well as visits to the city s tourist sights,. four days on the Harz Railway system based in a nice hotel in Wernigerode, which looks out on the locomotive sheds! - and a few days in Dresden to take in some of the narrow gauge railways and paddle steamers. Thursday 8 th October There will be a choice of a midday flight from London Stansted to Prague (check in time 10.00) or a morning flight from Gatwick to Prague (check in time 07.00) where we transfer to our city centre hotel for 3 nights.on a bed and breakfast arrangement. A typical Czech meal will be arranged for this evening. Friday 9 th October We will have a Prague transport ticket and utilising the good tram system we will visit the Prague Technical Museum which has trains, cameras, space and mining sections. We will then make our way to Prague Castle and Cathedral to take in the panoramic view and then make our way on the old royal route over Charles Bridge and onto the Old Town Square. Opportunity for lunch during the programme. Saturday 10 th October Main line steam special from Prague to Luzna hauled by the beautiful parrot 4-8-4T no 477-043 (photo on front cover) to visit the Czech railway museum with lots to see and including a further special train to Kolesovice and return hauled by 2-10-0 no 534 0323. Return to Prague by steam in the afternoon. Special notes I have not included dinners for Friday and Saturday in the price. There are many restaurants in the city centre. I may make a reservation at one. (see final itinerary) It should be possible to arrange reasonable price tickets for one of the three attractive Opera Houses on one of the evenings. If you are interested please indicate on the form and I will advise what is playing and the price.
Sunday 11th October Today check out of the hotel and load all luggage on a coach which will make a visit to one or more of the many unique castles as we drive to Karlovy Vary (Karlsbad). If you wish to join the main line special to Luzna for a second day that will be possible and you will join the coach at Luzna in the afternoon. At Karlovy Vary dinner will be arranged in the town centre so that you can see something of this attractive spa town before we transfer to our hotel for the night. Monday 12th October After breakfast continue by coach to Eisfelder Muhle station on the Harz railway for the 14.08 steam train to Wernigerode where the town is noted for its fine collection of timbered buildings. We stay for four nights in the Hotel Altora on a half board basis.. Tuesday 13th October You will be given a freedom pass for the Harz system to carry out your own itinerary. Wednesday 14th October Today we will join a special train with a mallet loco from Wernigerode to the Brocken mountain and return. Afterwards you will have free time with your pass. Thursday 15th October Freedom pass for the Harz system to carry out your own itinerary. Friday 16th October We check out of our hotel and travel by DB train from Wernigerode to Dresden changing at Halle. Our hotel for two nights in Dresden is close to the main station and will be a bed and breakfast arrangement. In the afternoon we will be able to visit the old town with its small transport museum and the iconic Church Of Our Lady which has been beautifully rebuilt after many years as a ruin following the bombing of Dresden in 1945
We then make our way to the river Elbe for a dinner cruise on our own chartered paddle steamer. Saturday 17 th October You will be given a Freedom Pass for Dresden area transport so that we can make visits to some of the steam operated narrow gauge lines. Dinner will probably be to your own arrangement today Sunday 18 th October Using our Freedom Pass we will make a morning trip to the Radebeul- Radeburg steam narrow gauge line. We will collect our luggage at the hotel en route to the Airport We will travel on an afternoon CityJet flight from Dresden to London City airport.arriving at 17.40. It should be possible to arrange a minibus from there back to Surrey and Sussex if there is sufficient demand As I have to make a number of advance payments I should like a 200pp deposit with your booking form. Some of this would be refundable dependent on when you cancelled your booking but you should ensure you have Holiday Insurance cover. I will send you a reminder at the end of June Final payment will be due at the end of July Please complete the enclosed booking form and return it to me with your deposit cheque made payable to me as soon as possible so that I can get the best value for you within the final price which I expect to be 1150 for double\twin room bookings and 1400 for single room bookings.
