PREAMBLE STUDENTS WELFARE POLICY (SWP) NIT Kurukshetra (NIT KKR), with excellent infrastructure, faculty, students and research outputs in the field of engineering, science, technology and management plays a significant role in the Nation building process. It has a proven and unmatched potential as shown by the success of its Alumni and their contributions in the field of engineering, technology and management. Close to 50 batches (over 30,000 students) have graduated as engineers with brilliant track records from the institute and have made a remarkable impression in their respective fields Government, Public Sector Undertakings and Private Sectors. A large number of them have contributed towards Nation building as Educationists, Faculty members and Scientists in various Engineering Colleges, Technological & Research Institutes of the Country, apart from those excelling abroad in various top positions.nit KKR has produced a number of top achievers who have made it to the highest level in their respective fields and many others who are among the leaders of industry. The NITKKR Alumni is credited with its Alumnus being CEOs of big industrial groups, heads of global conglomerates, chiefs of NGOs, patent holders, politicians, journalists, authors, musicians, public servants, policy makers, entrepreneurs, scientists and academicians and even spiritual leaders etc. In today s environment, it has become imperative for any Institute of Higher Learning to form meaningful relations with its Alumni. NIT Kurukshetra Alumni Association (NIT KKR AA) has been active in making Alumni, a cohesive force and is committed to strengthen the interface between the Institute and our alumni worldwide and provide the students of the future generations with the opportunities and a platform that could have never beenen dreamt of. It now introduces the Students Welfare Policy (SWP), to support the financial needs of the students in different forms. The financial aid shall be given to the poor/ needy/ challenged/ deserving students of the institute every year. 1.0 FINANCIAL AIDCATEGORIES The financial aid shall be divided in following categories, but not limited to: A. Tuition Fees/ Hostel Fees The applicant shall be provided financial aid for their Tuition/ Hostel Fees. Number of beneficiaries shall be decided on the basis of amount provided in the annual budget for the purpose. The beneficiary shall be provided financial aid up to the extent of 50% of Tuition/ Hostel Fees. B. Projects/ Patents The applicant shall be provided financial aid for the execution of specific projects and/ or filing of patent applications. The beneficiary shall be provided financial aid upto the extent of 50% of the expenditure incurred. C. Seminars/ Workshops/Conferences The applicant shall be provided financial aid for attending seminars/ workshops/ conferences etc. at International/ National level after recommendation from respective HODs depending upon his/ her academic performance.
The beneficiary shall be provided financial aid up to the extent of 50% of the total expense incurred. The beneficiary has to share the knowledge so acquired with fellow students through properly organized discussion session in the campus. 2.0 ELIGIBILITY An applicant shall be eligible for any kind of financial aid, if: The applicant is a poor/ needy/ challenged/ deserving student; The applicant is a regular student of any stream (under graduate) of the institute and has clean and good academic record; The income of the annum; Parent/ Guardian of the applicant is less than Rs. 3.5 lacs per The applicant has exhausted all other channels for the grant of aid; and The applicant gives a commitment in writing (Moral Obligation Letter) clearly stating his/ her willingness to return (re-pay) the principal amount to NITKKRAA as soon as he/ she gets settled in his/ her professional career and starts earning. 3.0 PROCEDURE FOR AWARD OF FINANCIAL AID The applications for financial aid shall be invited by putting proper notices on theinstitute website, Institute notice boards and in all hostels.requests for financial aid shall be processed as per the following procedure: The application shalll be filled in by the student in a standard format (Annexure-A); The application shalll clearly mention the purpose and requirement of fund; The application shall be duly supported by supporting documents confirming his eligibility including Moral Obligation Letter (Annexure-B); The application shalll be forwarded through the HODs. 3.0 FCILITATING COMMITTEE The Committee for the purpose shall comprise of the following members:: Secretary/Jt. Secretary, NIT KKR AA - Chairman Treasurer, NIT KKR AA - Member EC Member, NIT KKR AA - Member The committee shall submit its recommendations to the EC, NIT KKR AA who shall take the final decision in this regard. 4.0 AMENDMENTS EC, NIT KKR AA shall reserve the right to modify/amend the Students Welfare Policy from time to time depending upon the past experience and the suggestions received including but not limited to the existing clauses under this policy and addition of new clauses to the policy.
