I ve worked with a range of prominent blue-chip companies including O2, HSBC, Barclaycard, Pfizer, Microsoft and BP. My main area of interest lies in improving professional marketing standards for individuals, marketing teams and organisations, with a particular focus on business to business marketing, strategic marketing planning and public sector marketing. This puts me in a great position to lead the CIM programme to help you do the same. To support me in delivering the programme, I have put together an excellent team of lecturers who will deliver the programme content. They come from a wide range of marketing backgrounds, ensuring their experiences bring the teaching to life. We are very proud of the high quality marketing programmes we have to offer you and of our annual pass rates which are consistently above the national average. 3 Professional Certificate in Marketing About the course The Professional Certificate has been designed to equip you with the practical skills and knowledge to plan and implement marketing activities. It is best suited to those in a junior marketing or support role, seeking to understand marketing at a fundamental level, while looking for practical skills to apply in the work place. Overall the course will give you an in-depth understanding of the marketing environment and the ability to create customer value. You will cover a total of four units, all of which must be passed in order to complete the qualification. Marketing Essentials covers the fundamental principals which underpin marketing. It will help you understand the theoretical elements of marketing as well as its strategic position within an organisation. Assessing the Marketing Environment will develop your understanding of the internal and external factors which affect an organisation. You will also learn to recognise critical information that will help you overcome the challenges in the marketing environment. Marketing Information and Research explores the importance of marketing information in gaining an in-depth understanding of the market an organisation operates in and the customers it serves. You will learn about research methodologies and complementary approaches to collecting market and customer information. Stakeholder Marketing turns the focus towards internal and external stakeholders. You will look at how to manage stakeholder relationships effectively, while ensuring you are always focused on influencing and satisfying their needs. How you re assessed You will be assessed across the four units through a blend of case study examinations or assignments such as work based projects. The course has improved my confidence on both a professional and personal level. I was able to adapt it to my current role and I even got a pay rise once I had passed. www.derby.ac.uk/cim 4 Professional Diploma in Marketing About the course The Professional Diploma focuses on taking the practical skills you have already learned and puts them into the context of marketing planning and management. You will gain a deeper understanding of how to successfully implement and manage marketing projects which will directly apply to any marketing role. By taking this course you are likely to have set your sights on a management role in marketing. This course will take all of your experience and learning to date, and prepare you for making that leap into management. You will cover a total of four units, all of which must be passed in order to complete the qualification. The Marketing Planning Process looks at the components of the planning process. You will learn about how the marketing environment affects planning and how segmentation, targeting and positioning are central to a marketing campaign. Delivering Customer Value Through Marketing will show you how to manage brand and product portfolios in the context of an organisation s core marketing strategies, as well as looking at how to ensure the marketing proposition is customer focused, efficient and effective. Managing Marketing will teach you about the management of a marketing team or department. You will get a detailed understanding of resource management, working with budgets and the structuring of the team. Project Management in Marketing will give you a greater understanding of how to effectively manage marketing projects. You will learn project management tools and techniques which will assist you in planning and carrying out marketing projects effectively and successfully. It s been a great experience. I ve learnt a huge amount professionally, got a promotion as a direct result and am really enjoying being able to implement what I ve learnt in real situations. 5 Chartered Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing About the course The Chartered Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing is the most prestigious of all marketing qualifications. Professional marketers who hold this qualification are able to demonstrate their knowledge of marketing concepts and practices at a strategic and managerial level. It will enable you to make a significant contribution towards corporate and business strategies within your organisation. The qualification is composed of two stages. Stage one is made up of four units all of which must be passed in order to complete the Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing. Emerging Themes enables you to critically evaluate macro-environmental themes and assess their significance to a specific sector or industry. Your knowledge will be demonstrated through your strategic marketing responses to these themes, which should demonstrate creativity and contemporary marketing practice. Analysis and Decision takes you through the process of undertaking a strategic marketing audit, assessing all internal and external influencing factors to evaluate the impact upon an organisations strategic intent and direction. You will look at a variety of tools and techniques to support strategic marketing decisions and their impact upon an organisation. Marketing Leadership and Planning shows you how marketing strategy can help deliver the corporate mission and vision. You will learn to develop strategic marketing plans which take into account different frameworks and are within the resource capabilities of an organisation. Managing Corporate Reputation looks at the development of an organisations identity and how it can manage its reputation. You will learn to analyse the elements that make up an organisations identity and look at the impact that communications have on its reputation. You can then choose to continue on to Stage two. This is a significant marketing project which takes between six and twelve months. On completion you will receive the full Chartered Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing provided you have sufficient experience and evidence of two years continuous professional development. How you re assessed You will be assessed across the four units through a blend of case study examinations or assignments such as work based projects. The CIM Postgraduate Diploma really helped me to think on a more strategic level. The benefit of studying at Derby rather than via distance learning, was the opportunity to network with other professionals and share our ideas. www.derby.ac.uk/cim 6 Where you ll study You will study at the University of Derby Enterprise Centre, our purpose-built facility for training, entrepreneurship and business development. Located in the heart of Derby, you ll find bright and modern training rooms, free wireless internet throughout and state of the art audio visual equipment. When you ll study You will study on Tuesday evenings from 6pm to 9pm. This is supplemented with three weekend sessions per semester which are held every four to five weeks. Classes run between February and June and between September and December. Fees Your tuition fees are payable to University of Derby Corporate.
