December 2016 Dear Parents, With only three weeks until the end of term, we have a packed agenda with Christmas dinners, the Christmas Fayre, Christmas Carol evening, Christmas parties, not to mention nativity plays and a church service. It s still business as usual in classes, with the children enjoying a rich and varied curriculum which last month included a visit from an archery specialist in Year 2, a Roman soldier in Year 4 and a trip to the Harry Potter studios in London for Year 6. Children in Need WOW, what a lot of cakes! A huge thank you to all our parents and children who baked and bought cakes into Ferndale on Children in Need day. We raised a phenominal 777.00 whilst wearing pyjamas! It was a fantastic day for a great and worthwhile cause. Harry Potter A magical day The Year 6 children had a wand erful time at Warner Brothers Studios on Tuesday. They had an opportunity to look at the actual sets from the Harry Potter films and to experience riding a broom and sitting in the Hogwarts Express whilst being attacked by Dementors. They were a credit to the school and a pleasure to take.
Crossing Patrol We are sad to report that from Sarah Dowling is to leave her position as lollipop lady on Northern road. Her last day is Friday 9 th December and as from Monday 12 th December there will no longer be a crossing patrol person on duty in the mornings. We d like to thank her for all her hard work keeping our children safe, and wish her all the best in the future. Unfortunately it s the council who employ the lollipop ladies and we have been informed that she will not be replaced straight away, as due to the financial situation, there is currently a freeze on recruitment. There will be a review of the School Crossing Patrol service in the new Year and we will update you when we have further information. Parking and Cycling Can we please ask parents again not to drive into the car park at the front of school when they are dropping their children off in the mornings and picking up after school? With many children and parents walking across the car park in front of the main entrance, it is not safe to have cars driving in and then reversing out. A further reminder for any parents and children with bikes. We encourage children to cycle to school (with their cycle helmets on) but when on school property, please could all bikes be pushed and not ridden. Nuts Just a reminder that we do have children at Ferndale who have a severe food allergy to peanuts/nuts. It is important that there is a strict avoidance to this food in order to prevent a life-threatening allergic reaction. To reduce the chance of this occurring, we are asking that you do not send any peanut or nut containing products to school with your child. We appreciate your continued support.
Friends of Ferndale (FOF) The FOF have been hard at work organising the Christmas Fayre which will be taking place this Friday from 1:15 4:00pm. This year is looking to be bigger and better than ever with: the teacher challenge, raffle, stalls, the school choir (who sound amazing) and lots of activities to keep you and your children entertained. Oh yes, we are also expecting a very special visitor, who should be popping in. Please do come along and support the school on Friday. We look forward to seeing you. Friday 2 nd December Christmas Dinners Just a reminder that Christmas dinners are on Wednesday 7 th December for KS2 children and Thursday 8 th December for FS, KS1 & Nursery children. The last day to order your child s dinner is Wednesday 1 st December. Nativity Plays Rehearsals are in full swing for all the nativity plays that will be happening over the next three weeks. Please see the calendar below for dates and times. Holiday Club The holiday club will be running from Monday 19 th Friday 23 rd December. As usual there will be a range of exciting, fun activities taking place each day, including: bingo, making mince pies, face painting and making decorations. Friday will be party day with a visit from someone very special. Please pick up a booking form from the School Office
