Dear Parents and Prospective Dance Team Members, Thank you for your interest in the St. Andrew s Episcopal School 2015-2016 Dance Team. As advised by MHSAA, the Mississippi High School Activities Association, attached are the rules and regulations all prospective dance team members and parents must be aware of regarding the sport. A significant amount of time was spent to create a set of regulations that would best serve our school, students, and parents. Carefully read (and file) the documents as this will be our guiding instrument for the upcoming year. Dance Team is a team sport, requiring rigorous practices and conditioning. Therefore, all dance team members are expected to attend all practices unless excused by the coach or a doctor. This includes practices during and after school as well as other practices necessary. The elected dance team members, both Middle and Upper School, will attend a summer camp at MSU from June 1-4. In addition, all Uppers School Dance Team members are expected to help run the Little Saints Dance Camp August 3- August 4. Vacations will not be considered an excuse to miss camp. Any student who will not be able to attend camp should not try out. Camp is a must in improving the squad s skills, learning routines for performances, and building relationships as a team! A clinic will be conducted on Thursday, March 19 and Friday, March 20 in the gym from 3:45 5:30 in order to teach the material required for tryouts. Each participant will be required to complete a dance, kicks, and other skills for the tryout. There will be additional technique workshops on Monday, March 23 from 5:30-7:00 for Middle School students and Tuesday, March 24 from 5:30-7:00 for Varsity. We will have practice and mock tryouts in the gym on Thursday, March 28 from 3:30-5:30 in the gym. Tryouts are on Friday, March 27 in the gym. Middle School tryouts will begin at 3:45 and the Upper School tryouts will begin at 5:00. In order to try out, the application, $30 enrollment fee, and contract need to be completed and turned in to Ms. Hogue by 3:30 on Friday, March 20. In addition, the Department of Athletics Permission for Athletic Participation Form as well as the MS Athletic Participation form need to be completed and turned in to Mrs. Gaillet by the same date. Forms and enrollment fees are due no later than 3:30 Friday March 20, 2015 On March 27, all Middle School participants should report to the gym after school and wait for tryouts to start. Students may NOT CHECK OUT OF SCHOOL early ON TRYOUT DAY!!! All participants must wear navy blue shorts with a white top and tennis or dance shoes for tryouts. Participants are not expected to have dance shoes for tryouts. Participants should not wear anything that gives the judges an indication that they were in the past previously on the dance team such as shirts with St. Andrew s Dance Team. A copy of the score sheet the judges use is included in this packet. Any questions about scoring will be answered the week of tryouts. Following tryouts, participants score sheets will not be shared with participants or parents. Tryout results will be announced via email by 7:30 p.m. Friday March 27, 2015. Sincerely, Cyndi Hogue hoguec@gosaints.org Ashley Maples
