1 NEVADA SPIRIT TEAM TRYOUTS Cheer/ Pom/Stunt/Mascot General Information Deadlines & Instructions for Application: o All applications must be received by noon, Tuesday, April 24, Please note: the University mail system can take an additional 2-3 days to deliver mail. Transcripts Last Semester completed Grades Returning Only The Spirit Program at Nevada is made up of. POM Individuals with some dance background, but also a background in cheer. Will cheer and dance at all Nevada games and events, will wear traditional cheer uniform. Dance style is more pom and hip hop oriented. Tumbling not required. CHEER Individuals with strong cheer background in all areas, cheer, dance and tumble. Will cheer at all Nevada games and events. TUMBLING REQUIRED. FEMALE STUNT Individuals with strong cheer background and coed stunt experience. Will cheer and stunt at all Nevada games and events. Tumbling recommended, not required. Will wear mid-drif uniforms. MALE STUNT Male individuals with athletic background, not necessarily in cheer. Will cheer and stunt at all Nevada games and events. MASCOT Invdividuals with a desire to be a PART of the PACK. Will attend all games, events and functions for Nevada.
2 TRY OUT INFO Where: Registration and Introduction will be at the Virginia Street Gym on the University of Nevada campus. Tryouts will be held in the Virginia Street Gym on the University of Nevada campus. A campus map can be found on the University of Nevada Website Park in the Brian Whalen Parking Garage for Tryouts Dates & Times: SPIRIT Team Try outs - CHEER/STUNT/POM/MASCOT Saturday, April 28th VIRGINIA STREET GYM - Check in 9:30am (*Returners arrive at 1:00pm.) 9:30am-12:00pm 12:00pm-1:00pm Break 1:00pm-6:30pm Introduction, Pom Routine(s), Fight Song, Tumbling, Jumps, Spirit, Co-ed Stunt, etc. Try out criteria will include, but are not limited to Performance skills and facial expressions Comprehension of material Ability to conform to style and group of cheerleaders Execution Level of technique Overall ability well rounded performer/cheerleader Spirit Sunday, April 29th VIRGINIA STREET GYM 10:00 am -2 pm - CHEER/STUNT/POM/MASCOT Review Day 1, New Material, Co-ed Stunt, Tumbling, Jumps, Spirit, etc 2:30 PM 6:00 PM Mandatory Team Meeting for Nevada Spirit Team If you make the Spirit Program the Entire Meeting is Mandatory any flights or other engagements will need to be made after 6:00. Plan accordingly!
3 Suggested Clothing/Attire CHEER/POM/STUNT Wear a sports bra/mid-riff/tight-fitting athletic top and fitted shorts, white & navy only. If you do not wear spandex, you must wear bloomers/spankies under your shorts. Cheer Shoes Only No Jewelry/No Gum We are looking for a neat, well-kept collegiate appearance, look your best! Please bring plenty of water and snacks. MEN T-Shirt & Shorts, white & navy only. Athletic Shoes No Jewelry/No Gum Preferably no facial hair (clean shaven). We are looking for a neat, well-kept collegiate appearance, look your best! Please bring plenty of water and snacks. ** PLEASE NOTE: **Cuts can be made at any time during tryouts. There is no minimum or maximum number of cuts that will be made. All cuts will be determined at the discretion of the coaches. All cuts are final.

Date Date THINGS TO KNOW Mandatory team practice begins in early August, before school resumes. There will be appearances ALL summer for the SPIRIT members that are able to attend! The Nevada Spirit Program season goes from August through mid March holidays and weekends are limited. You MUST be accepted to the University of NEVADA in order to be considered for the team or even to try out for the Spirit Program. 6 Certificate of Eligibility for Nevada Spirit Program In order to be eligible for participation in the Nevada Spirit Program, Cheer, Stunt, Dance, Pom or Mascot, the student must be accepted to the University of Nevada. If he/she is already a student at Nevada then he/she must have a cumulative 2.0 GPA to try out for the team. The student must maintain a cumulative 2.0 GPA per semester and maintain full-time enrollment (12 credit hours) at Nevada if selected as part of the Nevada Spirit Program (Cheer, Stunt, Dance, Pom or Mascot). All of the above requirements must be met prior to the semester the student will try out. If, for any reason, the student falls below full-time or does not maintain a cumulative 2.0 GPA, they may be suspended or removed from the Spirit Program. If the student does not fulfill any of the responsibilities of the Spirit Program the student may be suspended or removed from the program. By signing this paper, I am authorizing the administration and staff of the University of Nevada to confirm my academic eligibility. If the student is successfully chosen as a member of the Nevada Spirit Program, this form will be held on file all year, for academic eligibility checks. 9 University of Nevada, Reno Nevada Spirit Team Try-outs CLASS WAIVER, RELEASE, AND INDEMNIFICATION AGREEMENT I,, am a student enrolled at, a member institution of the Nevada System of Higher Education ( NSHE ). I understand and hereby acknowledge that my participation in the Nevada Spirit Team Try-outs is wholly voluntary. In consideration of being allowed to participate in the Nevada Spirit Team Try-outs at the University of Nevada, Reno I hereby agree as follows: 1. I understand the nature of the Nevada Spirit Team Try-outs I may participate in (ie: cheering, dancing, stunting, tumbling, jumping, conditioning) may require mental judgment and a high degree of physical fitness, agility, and dexterity, and that this may include strenuous exercise that requires physical fitness, strength, and stamina. 2. I understand that the Nevada Spirit Team Try-outs described herein involve the risk of injury or death and the risk of damage to or loss of property. I understand that these activities involve serious dangers and inherent risks, including risks associated with travel to and from such activities in Nevada and California, as well as travel to and in mountainous regions and other remote places. I understand, accept, and voluntarily assume these risks. 3. I understand that neither the NSHE nor the University of Nevada, Reno, will provide medical or health insurance coverage to me during any aspect of my participation in the Nevada Spirit Team Try-outs at the University of Nevada, Reno. I hereby represent and warrant that I am and will be covered throughout the activity by a policy of comprehensive health and accident insurance that provides coverage for injuries I may sustain in the course of my participation in the activity. I understand I may be required to show proof of insurance coverage prior to my participation in the activity. 4. I, individually, and on behalf of my heirs, successors, assigns and personal representatives, hereby agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless the NSHE and the University of Nevada, Reno, and their employees, agents, and representatives, from any and all liability whatsoever for any and all damages, losses, or injuries (including death) I sustain to my person or property or both, including but not limited to any claims, demands, actions, causes of action, judgments, expenses and costs, including attorneys fees, which arise out of, result from, occur during, or are connected in any manner with my participation in the activity. 5. To the extent authorized by law, I, individually, and on behalf of my heirs, successors, assigns and personal representatives, hereby release and forever discharge the NSHE and the University of Nevada, Reno, and their employees, agents, and representatives, from any and all liability, loss, damage or expense, including attorneys fees, that they or any of them incur or sustain as a result of any claims, demands, actions, causes of action, damages, judgments, costs or expenses, including attorneys fees, which arise out of, occur during, or are in any way connected with my participation in the activity.

To the extent that I, individually, or my heirs, successors, assigns, or personal representatives bring a claim of any kind whatsoever against the NSHE and/or the University of Nevada, Reno, and/or their employees, agents, and representatives, I agree that this Waiver, Release and Indemnification Agreement is to be construed under the laws of the State of Nevada, including the provisions of Nevada Revised Statutes Chapter 41; and that if any portion hereof is held invalid, the balance hereof shall, notwithstanding, continue in full legal force and effect.
