HILLARY CLINTON 1994 Visible role model for women in the early 90 s Postponed her political aspirations to be First Lady of the United States (FLOTUS) Polarizing figure in US politics and culture criticized as much for her role as FLOTUS and work on policy, as her appearance (hair, fashion) To be taken seriously in 1994, women (and men) needed to look and act businesslike; in the early 90 s, the office uniform was flight attendant. 6

The industry values diversity, creating opportunities to provide a different perspective. Great rewards aligned with performance. Women stand out in a good way. 7

8 WHAT MAKES PHILLIPS 66 A GREAT PLACE TO WORK FOR WOMEN? Phillips 66 is developing its own identity exciting to be there from the start and share in the success. Culture that believes diversity and inclusion creates business value individuals are valued for their strengths and differences. Phillips 66 values are genuine and demonstrated by senior leadership. Diversity & Inclusion at Phillips 66: We are building a great place to work through a diverse, agile and highly capable workforce We value diversity of thought and varied backgrounds Diversity and Inclusion are key elements of building a high performing organization We view diversity as a competitive advantage that enhances critical thinking and sparks innovation

9 WHAT CHALLENGES ARE THERE FOR WOMEN IN INDUSTRY? Attracting women to the industry in the first place not all about hard hats and boiler suits. Dual career couples or women as primary carers for families often means limited global & regional mobility, which limits opportunities for upward advancement. Still a perception that women must compromise work/life balance to progress their careers. Still some senior roles or teams where there is not enough representation of women. Offering flexibility to women in senior roles continues to be a challenge. Although the industry has progressed, there remains Old School attitudes towards women in business in some parts of the industry and some parts of the world.

10 WHAT MORE COULD THE INDUSTRY DO TO ATTRACT AND RETAIN WOMEN? Increase visibility to girls making career choices while at secondary school Align community involvement efforts with organisations (like Engineering Development Trust) to demonstrate values and commitment to diversity Provide opportunities for mentoring and sponsorship to aid women in career planning Challenge what contribution in the workplace looks like, so family status is not an impairment to career progression Create networks which enable women to solve business problems, like how to do business in male dominated environments

11 WHAT DO YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL? 1. Passion for the industry, what role it plays in the world, and wanting to make your personal contribution 2. Be really good at what the company/ industry values and needs you to do 3. Be a strategic thinker understand how your work interconnects with others, fits into the bigger picture, and plan your work accordingly 4. Collaborate and build respect for mutual success, and develop long-term working relationships over the span of your career 5. Network reach out beyond your current contacts and find ways to connect to create opportunities and build mutual success 6. Be agile to adapt to a changing landscape 7. Build resilience for inevitable challenges; know when to give up and when to say no 8. Have fun!

12 FFWD TO 2014: @HILLARYCLINTON @hillaryclinton Wife, mom, lawyer, women & kids advocate, FLOAR, FLOTUS, US Senator, SecState, author, dog owner, hair icon, pantsuit aficionado, glass ceiling cracker, TBD... Whether your agree with her politics or not she s a role model with talents, fallibility, experience and resilience, not to be defined by a uniform or being taken seriously. More than ever, we all can be ourselves, contribute and be valued.

13 THE INDUSTRY CONTINUES TO EVOLVE The workplace, including the energy industry, has evolved significantly over the past 2 decades. Phillips 66 and other energy companies have a lot to offer and benefit from diversity in the workplace. Challenges remain in attracting women to the industry these are problems to solve and history shows us that progress has been made and continues.
