Installing Wordpress to Easyspace hosting Please note that Easyspace recommend Linux webhosting for installing Wordpress as this allows for easy management of your file/folder permissions. All of the Easyspace hosting packages can be setup on a Linux server. Suitable Easyspace hosting packages: All Easyspace Linux hosting packages that contain a MySql database are suitable for the installation of the Wordpress blog software. If your website doesn t have a MySql package as standard you can always add one by going to the webhosting management area of your Easyspace control panel and selecting add-o n s. What you will need before beginning this guide Linux hosting account MySql database Y o r u Easyspace control panel login details Your FTP username and password A cup of coffee and a smile!
1) Creating MySql database (if not already configured) If you have already got a database ready proceed to step 2) In your Easyspace control panel (https://servicecentre.easyspace.com) select Website Management from the left hand menu. When the page loads select the domain you wish to manage from the list and click the Edit Settings button. Activating the MySql Database Once the domain is selected click on the tab labelled Activate Add-ons. You should then see an option to activate your
MySql database. Please note: This process can take up to 20 mins to complete and once the database is setup you will be able to view the login information through this same menu.
2) Seeing the details for your MySql Database Once you have received confirmation that your database is setup, return to the website management / addons section of your control panel as details in step 1 to view your database details. Take a note of the details you see, you will need them to complete your installation.
3) Downloading Wordpress V ist http://wordpress.org/download/ and download the latest version of Wordpress. This will download a.zip file we suggest downloading to your desktop so you can find it easily for the next step Go to the Wordpress website and download. Save this to your desktop.
4) Unzip the folder on your desktop Double click on the.zip file and follow the instructions. Extract the file files within the zip file to your desktop in a new f o l d e r. Unzip the Wordpress folder you download
5) Upload the folder contents to your Easyspace hosting account Decide whether you want you blog as your main website or as a sub directory (folder). If you want the blog as your main website (www.yourdomain.com) FTP (transfer or copy) the content of the folder you unzipped into the WWW folder in your FTP space. If you want the blog to be part of an existing website so people can visit your existing website and then decide whether to visit your blog do the following. Create a new folder inside the WWW folder name the folder blog (or whatever you like) When people visit your blog they will see the following address yourdomainname/blog/ with blog being the directory or folder For the purpose of the screen below we are using the blog as the main website so are uploading the content of the unzipped folder to the WWW folder in the FTP space.
6) Configure W o r d p r e s s Once uploaded the Wordpress folders to the server, go to the following webaddress http://www.domain.ext/wpadmin/install.php You will be greeted with the following message: At this point click the button labelled Create a Configuration File. You will then be redirected to a new page with the following information: Click the Let's Go button and you will get a screen requesting the database details for your site. These are the details you saved from step 1.
Enter the details as follows: Database Name: This is the database name as displayed in the control panel. User Name: This is the database username as displayed in the control panel and is usually the same as the database name. Password: This is the database password as displayed in the control panel. Database Host: This is the database server as displayed in the control panel. eg. mysql04.iomart.com Remember the details from you database screen? This is where you will need them!
Click Run the install. The next step is to provide a name for your blog and an administrator email address: Fill in the information and click the Install Wordpress button. If everything went according to plan you will see a success page containing your Wordpress username and password similar to the one below:
Click the Log In button and then enter your username and password as provided on the success page. This will allow you access to start configuring your blog. You will also receive a notice advising you to update the WordPress password, which we would strongly recommend. Managing your Wordpress Now that you have successfully installed Wordpress, you can login to your newly created Admin area to manage and control your blog. The Installer handily creates a link for you (as seen in the image above) however if you get stuck it will most likely be somewhere like: http://www.yourdomain.ext/wp-admin or http://www.yourdomain.ext/blog/wp-admin Once logged in you can start blogging til your hearts content!
