How do I earn the HOPE Scholarship? You must graduate from high school with a 3.0 GPA in your academic subjects Only Math, Science, Social Studies, English and World Language classes count in this calculation
How are my HOPE GPA and Cumulative GPA Different? SFHS Cumulative GPA All courses count towards the average HOPE GPA Only academic core courses count towards the average Calculated by SFHS Tracked on student transcripts Additional quality point of 1.0 added to college level courses (AP, IB, Dual Enrollment) Calculated by GSFC Tracked at gacollege411.org Additional quality point of.5 added to college level courses (AP, IB, Dual Enrollment) Average can exceed 4.0 Average cannot exceed 4.0
Go Figure! Who calculates the HOPE GPA? While your counselor can look at your numbers with you, only the GEORGIA STUDENT FINANCE COMMISSION can calculate HOPE. You can check the preliminary calculation on your GaCollege411 account at www.gacollege411.org Your FINAL HOPE GPA is not determined until after you graduate so all your academic grades count!
HOPE Scholarship Calculation You get these points for academic core courses 90-100 = A= 4 points 80-89 = 70-79 = B= 3 Points C= 2 points Below 70 F= 0 points NOTE: Your school transcript has your cumulative GPA, which is an average of all your courses.
HOPE Example World History 99 = A = 4 Math II 89 = B = 3 Chemistry 79 = C = 2 Spanish II 89 = B = 3 10 th Literature 79 = C = 2 2.8 = No HOPE Even though this student has an 87 academic GPA, he will not be HOPE Eligible! 14/5 = 2.8
Quality Points for AP/IB/Dual Enrollment Class HOPE will add an additional.5 quality point HOPE will not calculate anything over a 4.0 For example, a B in AP Human Geography will earn 3.5 quality points (not 4 quality points earned at SFHS). An A will be calculated as 4 quality points (not 5 quality points earned at SFHS).
