Sheila Harvey TEEL 340- The Effective Classroom Classroom Management Plan December 5, 2006 Classroom Management Plan Third Grade Classroom Classroom Climate: Students are the main focus of teaching. I believe that in order to accomplish my goals I must first teach them. A teacher must remain flexible and willing to change. Not all students learn at the same speed or way so a teacher must remember to try numerous ways to reach all students. As third graders the students are just learning how to be independent. As I teacher of this level I hope to foster this into a more productive, valuable citizen. Students will be expected to keep their own working area clean and in order, bring supplies to school, most importantly leave the classroom gaining the amount of knowledge they want to. Classroom management is important in establishing a working environment. In order for everyone to know their proper role in the classroom a proper management plan has to be implemented. This prevents confusion, disorder, and defines what is expected of the teacher and of the students. Through using a defined and easy to follow structure, I will be able to establish a strong and workable classroom management plan. It is through this structure that I will be teaching my students to become organized, orderly, and getting them prepared for the ever expanding reality of the real world. Theorist: I believe through many of the theorist Montessori s teachings students can learn how to function in life and apply these skills. Her believe system allowed others to accomplish their goals without discrimination. I want to help motivate my students to be successful for the rest of their lives. I want to see them do the things that many people in society think they can not overcome. Another theorist that captures my believes is Curwin and Mendler belief on discipline with dignity. In my classroom I hope to have very clear rules and consequences established for the children to see every day. I hope to establish a routine and stick to it so the students know how to behave. I believe in no excuses at the third grade level students

should know how to act and how to behave. Another way is I want every day to be a new day for the students to grow. To reach an organized classroom and this is why classroom management is so important. CLASSROOM RULES: 1. Be safe and respectable of you and others- Students need to learn how to work and play in a safe and enjoyable environment. This rule is combined to let the students know that if they leave others alone and make safety a top propriety everyone will have a more enjoyable experience. By respecting others you are making your mind and body a safe place to live. Students make a school more of a home than a chore. Students need to realize many people work and play in the same environment and they need to be treated with respect. 2. Do your best work- Never give up on an assignment just because it is a challenge. I want my students to know that through a challenge they can become victorious and accomplish good grades. I hope this rule will teach students that organization and hard work pays off. Also that through hard work you can see results and learn how to accomplish life goals. As a teacher I am getting them ready for the real world, not just advancement to the fourth grade. 3. Line up and travel quietly- Others are trying to learn in the same building and if you do not travel quietly you will disturb others learning process. You do not want your class to be known as the loud one. Also by lining up quietly you do not waste valuable learning time. School is important for learning and you should not waste such a great time together. In third grade you are expected to know this rule already. 1. Rewards and Consequences: The students will be expected to accomplish goals everyday using a stamp sheet. I will write down the weekly goals me and the children come up with accomplishing in class. Students will asses at the end

of each week the stamps they have earned and next week s goals to work towards. When I notice the students accomplishing these goals I will give them a stamp. If the students earn enough stamps the class will have a pajama party. If the students are misbehaving they will get a black stamp, the sole purpose of the black stamps will be negative stamps towards the party. Students will get three stamps before we have a talk during recess time about the problem. 2. Parental/Administrational Support: I believe a direct line of communication weekly with parents helps students learn better. I plan on sending home a weekly letter to the parents and providing them with a copy of rules to be signed and to keep. This way I will know if a parent has a copy of the expectations. I do not want a mother coming into my classroom unprepared to hear their child has not turned in homework, or have them confused about how they did not expect a third grader to be responsible for others property. The notes will include good items their child has accomplished this week and things they need to work on. I will send them home a letter every Monday so I have all weekend to write them. Also, as an alternative option, if the technology is available, I could set up a web log (blog) to allow quick and easy access to me and classroom information. In my classroom I will have reviewed the districts rules and tie them into the classroom rules. I will present my entire plan to the administrator and discuss when it is appropriate to send students to the principal and what will happen at that time. Procedures: The following is a list of classroom procedures that I will use to establish a routine for the school year.. 1. In my classroom the students will have assigned seating. They will be expected to find their seats on the first day of class. I will use their names on their desk, making their desk permanently their responsibility. I will later change the desks around to better suit the seating chart. I hope this will teach them responsibility of

property. They will also be given a small grade on how well they keep their desk organized. 2. Students will be given set times to visit the restrooms throughout the day. I will however allow the students to go if they ask as long as it does not become a problem. If the student does not show respect of the privilege it will be taken away from the whole class. 3. Another responsibility the students will have is to have at least five sharpened pencils at their desk at all time with a big eraser. I will allow sharpening during class on a case by case basis. If a student becomes a problem, we will have to meet to discuss why his or her pencil breaks more then others. 4. Students will be responsible for their personal belongings such as pencils, laptops, and paper. The students will be expected to keep paper and pencils at their desk at all times. If the student runs out or forgets to bring them to class, I will loan a piece to them on the basis that they have to restock. When the supplies run out, they are gone. Special cases will be examined and accommodations will be provided. 5. Students will have a routine in my classroom. When they come in they will be expected to put away their coats and book bags quickly. Go to their desk and start on their bell work. If a student finishes the bell work early, they will be expected to have a book or other homework to work on. The student will be advised after role call and lunch count to place their homework in designated areas and to pick up any assignments they have missed in their folders. 6. I will not assign a leader; instead I will have all the worksheets I am expected to use that day in the folder they pick up in the morning. One more of the students responsibilities are to keep up with these worksheets. I do this not only to teach how important it is to be organized, but also to cut down on students seeing others

work. If I need to distribute other materials throughout the day I will have groups come up and pick up required materials. 7. Students will be expected to read silently if a visitor comes to my door. They will hopefully remember this routine and do it quietly. 8. The students will have an assigned number and will be expected to line up in order all the time. I have never liked line leaders as a reward. The good students are always in the front and the louder students in the back are therefore further from the teacher. I will expect the students to know this order and do it without being told after the first week. The students will be called by groups to line up if I see them being quite. 9. After role call students will be assigned to get into their notebooks that hold any assignments I do not have for them or they have missed. If the students have questions on any of the material they will come and talk to me before or after school.
