2 COURSE DESCRIPTION This course is designed to provide basic Image Manipulating skills. Knowledge and skills while allowing students at the high school level to explore the emerging computer technology that inevitably affects our daily life. During this course, students will review basic skills of using GIMP Software; to prepare and manipulate pictures. One of the objectives of this class is to provide a relaxed and enjoyable learning environment for all students. It is students responsibility to read, understand and follow the Computer Lab Rules. In this class, Students do not have the right to interfere with another student s right of hearing, seeing and learning. STRUCTURE Each student has a personal account on the school domain Students will have a user name and password to gain access to their personal account. They may change passwords but exchanging or sharing passwords are strictly prohibited and may result consequences. Each student will have an assigned computer. Students are not allowed to chance their assigned computer nor have another individual use his or her computer. Please be responsible to keep clean your computer and desk. A typical computer class begins with 10 minutes typing practice. Students will be giving either a typing test or a practice work. Students are expected to start typing as soon as they logged on to their computers Lectures can be in the forms of remote demonstrating, and online and verbal instruction, PowerPoint presentation or online self-paced learning. After the lecture, students are given an assignment that is posted on the school web site. Assignments are checked and graded at the end of each week. 3 ASSIGNMENT TURN-IN AND LATE ASSIGNMENT POLICY Students will have one week to submit an assignment. The teacher will cut 20% of a late assignment. Submitting assignments and asking for make-ups are students responsibility. Students will have 2 weeks after due date of an assignment to turn in a late assignment. After two weeks of due date of an assignment, the assignment will not be accepted. MAKE-UP DAY Students are welcome staying for after school for make-ups. Please make an appointment with the teacher to stay for after school one day prior. Students will not be accepted without an appointment. GRADING CATEGORIES Computer Science class grade will be calculated as shown in the following table. 4 Grading is based on a 4-point scale. Individual teachers will give specific information on how grades are determined for their class. Reminder; as of the beginning of the school year, a No D Policy will be in effect. Any grade below C is a failing grade. ( F ) BayTech will have the same grading breakdown in all courses ; A ; A ; B ; B ; B ; C ; C 0-69 ; F RESTROOM POLICY In order to maintain a peaceful and effective teaching environment, during the instructional times students restroom use will be limited with the BayTech restroom policy. Students will be allowed to use the restroom during their PE classes and lunch periods everyday. In addition students will be provided one (1) ticket per week for restroom use during the regular class hours with the permission of their classroom teacher. Students will be not given permission to use the restroom during the first ten (10) and last five (5) minutes of any class period, and during the whole SSR. PROCEDURES 1. Students need to wait out side the computer lab and wait to be accepted. 5 2. Students are to enter the classroom quietly, login to personal account, and wait for the instructions of teacher. 3. Each day before you start using your computer, students should check carefully to see if everything is alright. If found something wrong, notify the teacher immediately. If you wait until after class has started, you will be responsible for any damage that may have been done. 4. During teacher s lecture, you are supposed to listen to the teacher only, instead of being busy with your computer. 5. Students are required to work silently at all times. If you want to ask a question raise your hand silently and wait until the teacher comes you to help. 6. You are required to be on your assigned work and not on any other program, game, online or listening music, watching videos, unless it is part of the class. 7. Do not leave your seat unless you have permission of the teacher. 8. While we are in class, if you need to go to the restroom or get water, you need a Hall Pass signed and fill the student record form. 9. After completing your assigned work, saving it to the drop box (Z: Drive) with a proper name is your responsibility. Works which are not saved or not properly named will not be graded. 10. Students who have completed assignment earlier have extra privileges in the computer lab but they can help their neighbors, too. 11. When you are dismissed by the teacher, you are to save your any unsaved work, log off your account, leave the mouse and keyboard neatly, push your chair back to its place before you leave the class. Remember, the teacher, not the bell, will dismiss you. Do not leave without teacher s permission. 12. If you are absent, it is your responsibility to ask how to make up your missing points. RULES Please remember: Computer Lab rules are for everybody s safety, not for restricting you for using the computers. 6 1. Keep your food and drink out of the computer lab 2. Be sited all time 3. Be on your assigned computer 4. Never plug or unplug any cords 5. No listening to music. No watching videos. No chatting. 6. Uses of flash drives or CSs are allowed by teacher s permission. CONSEQUENCES These consequences are intended to be used when classroom expectations are not met. Step 1 Reminder: Teacher will remind student about the expected behavior. Step 2 Warning: Teacher will state what will happen if behavior persists. Step 3 Consequence: Giving detention according Discipline Policy. Step 4 Referral to in-school suspension room and parent call.
