2014 Priorities Common Thread Across all Priorities Role of Health Education Specialist Policy and advocacy must occur to emphasize the inclusion of health education specialists when identifying personnel for funding opportunities. The professional training of a health educator allows for that assimilation of factors which provide the requisite understanding to create effective policies. To advance a population s health, we must identify socioeconomic conditions, social networks, work and living conditions and then study the cumulative disadvantages and exposure to risks across the lifespan --- all the while attempting to understand how social and psychological conditions interact with the biological mechanisms which cause disease. 1-2 1.
