Assaf Biderman Assaf Biderman taught at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology ( MIT ) where he is associate director of the SENSEable City Laboratory. He leads a research group that explores the "real-time city" and examines the increasing deployment of sensors and electronic hand-net and its relationship to the built environment. At the Venice Biennale 2006, the group revealed the first scale of the city: dynamic maps that describe the movement of pedestrians, buses, taxis in real time. In the 2009 Summit of the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen, the laboratory developed a hybrid bicycle wheel that captures braking energy to give drivers an extra boost. Biderman's work seeks the participation of government municipal and industry worldwide to explore how pressing problems of urbanization are affected by a wave of new distribution technologies, and how these can be harnessed to create a more sustainable urban environments.
