Each of these positions has different responsibilities, requirements and compensations. Communications Intern Spring 2015 National Geographic's Communications department is seeking intern for the spring. The Communications interns assist with day-to-day media relations and will work closely with Communications department staff to promote all aspects of National Geographic, including its magazines, programs and products. Responsibilities Provide general administrative support to the Communications department Complete media research and compile media contact lists Coordinate press mailings and other media contact lists Draft press materials (pitches, media, advisories, fact sheets) Event support Minimum Education & Experience Interns must be current college students (juniors, seniors, or graduate students) working toward a degree in Communications, Media/Public Relations, Journalism or equivalent. Knowledge & Skill Requirements Candidates must be enthusiastic and detail-oriented with strong editing and writing skills (prior experiences with AP style a plus). He or she must be organized, with the availability to multitask under deadlines. Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word. He or she must also work well in a team environment and be capable of working independently when required. Previous internship experience a plus. Hours, dates and compensation Spring: Beginning January beginning of April; Internship requires three full days per week; approximately 24 hours total. Typical hours are 9:30-5:30. Ad Sales Marketing & Partnerships Intern Spring 2015 The Ad Sales Marketing & Partnership department is responsible for: Ensuring the ad sales team has all possible tools to effectively sell National Geographic Channel and Nat Geo WILD programming to advertisers; including many of the world's top brands. These tools include revenue generating campaign ideas, product integration opportunities, marketing collateral, premiums, show information and more. Serving as the primary liaison between account executives in the field and various network departments located in Washington, DC, including programming, public relations, creative, media strategy and more. Developing and securing tune-in marketing partnerships that leverage synergy brands with National Geographic Channels parent companies (FOX and National Geographic Society) and outside brands. Internship Description: Gain knowledge of marketing, promotional and advertising sales businesses practices. Become familiar with the television industry by being exposed to multiple areas of the business. Learn team-building skills in a professional setting. Observe how to market to the everyday consumer and the advertising community. Intern Activities Gain knowledge on how TV networks operate from a marketing perspective. Participate in daily meetings, brainstorms and executions of marketing campaigns. Learn and experience how ideas go from paper into on-air, digital and social elements. Study client creative and brand briefs, participate in client calls and learn how to be a liaison between the sales team and advertisers. Learn how competitive tracking is done to inform the marketing team about competitive look and feel, other marketing tactics and interesting ideas that were observed in the tracking. Qualifications The ideal candidate is interested and has experience in advertising, sales, marketing or communications. Rising junior or senior undergraduate student currently enrolled in an academic program. Proactive, detail-oriented, possesses a positive attitude and has a strong work ethic. Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel. Strong written and verbal communication, organizational and interpersonal skills. Hours, dates and compensation Spring: Beginning January May. Ideally, two strong Dean s Interns would each commit 15-20 hours per week for 2-3 days each. Typical hours are 9:30-5:30. NG Marketing/Production/Creative Interns Spring 2015 Our department is seeking interns interested in marketing/production/creative to work with the Creative team. Intern description and duties: Our ad sales creative department promotes both our strong National Geographic brand and the goals and objectives of our on-air sponsors. Our co-branded promos encourage our viewers to tune-in to our programming and understand both brands messages. Our intern will support the Associate Producer, Director, and Senior Producer with multiple day-today and long-term tasks. These responsibilities may include: Coordinating footage delivery, Archiving and organizing completed materials, Assisting freelance and staff producers during shoots and post-production Helping with on-air promo delivery By the end of the semester, our intern will write his or her own promo, and work directly with an editor to produce a spot that may appear on our air. Requirements: Must be an AU-SOC junior or senior undergraduate student Earning a degree in Communication, Journalism, Marketing, English, or other related field(s). Ability to work under strict deadlines, with a strong work ethic and an eye for detail Keen organizational skills and a passion for creative writing Knowledge of AVID and Final Cut Pro is a plus. Internship dates, hours, and pay: Spring: Beginning January beginning of April Typical hours are 9:30-5:30. Exact dates/times can be worked out with your NG supervisor. Ideally, one or two strong candidates would each work 15-20 hours per week for two days each. Internship pays $10 per hour. Page 4 of 6
