2 2015 Summer Internship Opportunities ASPPH Headquarters Internship Program Program Announcement The Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health (ASPPH) is the voice of accredited public health education, representing member schools and programs accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH). ASPPH promotes the efforts of Schools and Programs of Public Health to improve the health of every person through education, research, and policy. Based upon the belief that "you're only as healthy as the world you live in," ASPPH works with the government and other professional organizations to develop solutions to the most pressing health concerns and provides access to the ongoing initiatives of the schools and programs of public health (see ASPPH Summer Interns will be placed at ASPPH headquarters in Washington, DC, where they will observe and participate in marketing and communications as well as data alalysis and reporting activities. 1. Eligibility Graduate students who are enrolled full-time with their first year of graduate school completed by May 2015, in an ASPPH-member school or program of public health, accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH), may apply for the internship program. Eligible students are expected to graduate in spring 2015, winter 2015, or spring A full list of accredited ASPPHmember schools and programs can be accessed via the ASPPH website at Applicants must also be U.S. citizens or hold a visa permitting permanent residence in the U.S. (i.e., have a U.S. green card ) to be eligible for the internship program. 2. Period of Performance Internship positions are for 10 weeks during the summer of 2015, with the possibility of a twoweek extension. Expected start dates will be in late-may or early-june. Exact dates will be determined based on the needs of ASPPH and the selected intern. 3. Location ASPPH Summer Interns will be placed at ASPPH headquarters in Washington, DC. The selected interns will be required to relocate to the internship location for the duration of the internship period. Fellowship Opportunities Available ASPPH will place up to three (3) summer interns in Stipend The stipend level for the 10-week internship position is $5, ASPPH Internship Program Opportunity The titles for the 2015 summer internship positions are as follows: ASPPH Data Analytics Intern ASPPH Education and Evaluation Intern ASPPH Education Intern To read the full project descriptions for these positions, please visit the ASPPH Training Programs Online Application System, as noted below, or see the project descriptions starting on page Application Procedure Applications are to be completed online through the ASPPH Training Programs Online Application System at All supporting, hardcopy materials must be sent via traceable delivery service to the ASPPH office in Washington, DC. The materials needed to complete an application are detailed on the application form. Incomplete applications will not be accepted. Please see Section 10 for detailed application instructions. 8. Evaluation Criteria The following criteria will be used to assess the applicant s ability to participate in the internship program. 4 9. Review & Final Selection ASPPH staff will review applications based on the criteria described above and contact those with high scores for interviews. Interviews will be conducted in early April. Upon completion of the interview process, candidates will be notified of the selection results. Selection results are expected by no later than April 17, Application Instructions The ASPPH Internship Online Application System is a centralized application service offering a secure, easy, and convenient way for students at ASPPH-member Schools and Programs of Public Health to apply to all ASPPH Graduate Training Programs. The online application is also accessible through the ASPPH website at To begin your online application, please click "Register Now" on the right side of the application page to create a password protected account. Online Application You have the option to Withdraw your application as many times as necessary after submitting until the online application due date. Applications are reviewed only after the online application deadline has passed. Please note, if you choose to withdraw your application after having submitted it once, you must resubmit your application for it to be considered. To complete the online application, you will need the following: Resume/CV (only PDF format will be accepted) Name, , and phone number of two references An essay (1500 word max; only PDF format will be accepted) You must submit a separate essay for each position to which you are applying explaining your interests, strengths, and qualifications for that particular fellowship position, and how it will benefit your long-term career plans in the field of public health. A signed scanned copy of the signature page may be submitted via in PDF format to Applications@aspph.org. Official Graduate Transcripts (School or Program of Public Health only) This must be sent in the mail in a sealed envelope issued by your school. Electronic transcripts will not be accepted. Two Letters of Recommendation ( LOR - from the references provided in the online application) LOR must be on letter head with contact information and original signature. LOR do not need to be in a sealed envelope. Please request for your recommenders to not fold or staple LOR. Scanned signed copies of LOR may be submitted via ONLY IF they are ed directly to ASPPH from the recommender to Applications@aspph.org in PDF format. Applicants themselves may not submit LOR via ; they may only submit them in hard copy via traceable mail service. A copy of your Green Card, if you are not a US Citizen. A scanned copy of a Green Card may be submitted via to Applications@aspph.org. All hardcopy documents must be received by ASPPH by 5:00 p.m. (Eastern) on: Friday, March 6, 2015 Your application will be considered incomplete, and therefore will not be reviewed, if all hard copy documents have not been received by ASPPH (either by mail or when allowable) by this deadline. 7 2015 ASPPH Data Analytics Internship ASPPH Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health (ASPPH) Washington, DC ASPPH Data Analytics Intern Background/History: The Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health (ASPPH) is the voice of accredited public health education, representing member schools and programs accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH). Internship Assignment Description: Title of central project: Data Analytics to Inform Public Health Education and Workforce Students seeking experience in data analytics and visualization are encouraged to apply for this internship. The Data Analytics Intern will use various data sources and data analysis/visualization software to analyze and report on public health education and workforce. Through this project, the Data Analytics Intern will contribute to federally-funded research and ASPPH member data needs. Required and/or Desired Skills & Knowledge: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel required Prior experience with and/or prior coursework in qualitative or quantitative data analysis required Knowledge of SPSS statistical analysis software and data visualization software (such as Tableau) preferred Exposure to or experience with meta-data analysis preferred Excellent written and oral communication skills Excellent time management skills Expected Benefits: This internship is an excellent opportunity for a graduate-level public health student to enhance both quantitative and qualitative data analysis and reporting skills. The Data Analytics Intern will create data visualizations using Tableau software and assist with data analysis and report writing. This internship offers experience working on a federally-funded project and collaborating with leaders in public health education. 9 2015 ASPPH Education and Evaluation Internship ASPPH Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health (ASPPH) Washington, DC ASPPH Education and Evaluation Intern Background/History: The Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health (ASPPH) is the voice of accredited public health education, representing member schools and programs accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH). Internship Assignment Description: Title of central project: Evaluating the Impact of Eight Interprofessional Education Collaborative (IPEC) Institutes, Students seeking experience in data analysis and evaluation are encouraged to apply for this internship. The Education and Evaluation Intern will review pre-institute, intra-institute, and post-institute data to determine overall influence of the institute on attendees interprofessional education (IPE) abilities in both teaching students and effecting change in support of championing an IPE culture at their home institutions. Required and/or Desired Skills & Knowledge: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel required Prior experience with and/or prior coursework in qualitative or quantitative data analysis required Exposure to or experience with meta-data analysis preferred Excellent written and oral communication skills Excellent time management skills Expected Benefits: This internship is an excellent opportunity for a graduate-level public health student to undertake applied data analytics, communication skill building with data partners across the health professions, data report preparation, as well as practice decision making and engage in professional interactions with peers. 10 2015 ASPPH Education Internship ASPPH Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health (ASPPH) Washington, DC ASPPH Education Intern Background/History: The Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health (ASPPH) is the voice of accredited public health education, representing member schools and programs accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH). Based upon the belief that you re only as healthy as the world you live in, ASPPH works with the government and other professional organizations to develop solutions to the most pressing health concerns and provides access to the ongoing initiatives of the Schools and Programs of Public Health. Internship Assignment Description: Title of central project: Researching and Supporting Undergraduate Education for Public Health Initiatives Students interested in the evolution of public health education and seeking experience in the organization and features of public health education at the undergraduate level are encouraged to apply for this internship. The Public Health Intern for Undergraduate Education will assist in all ASPPH activities related to public health education at the undergraduate level including exploration of credentialing, research related to existing programs and accreditation at the undergraduate level, communication with leaders in the field, and development of meeting agendas and conference sessions. Required and/or Desired Skills & Knowledge: Prior experience with report writing and research required Excellent written and oral communication skills required Excellent time management and organizational skills required Proficiency with MS Office Suite required Expected Benefits: This internship is an excellent opportunity for a graduate-level public health student to refine their research and writing skills while also learning to work collaboratively with leaders in undergraduate public health education.
