Monitor your fleet investment from wherever you are CareTrack from Volvo is more than just a tracking system. You could be forgiven for describing CareTrack as a GPS system. On the surface that is what it appears to be and it might help you to understand it at its most basic. It does use satellites, and you can locate your machine with pinpoint accuracy when you use it. But CareTrack does so much more than just that. Using CareTrack, you will actually have more information about your machine at your fingertips than the machine operator. CareTrack takes fleet management to the next level. At any given moment in time, no matter where in the world you are, you can access a wealth of valuable information about the state of your machines: when they have been used, what speeds they have been driven at, how much fuel they are consuming or you can simply look to see exactly where they are, right now. The machine fleet is a capital-heavy part of your business it could be where most of your money goes. It makes sense to ensure that you re getting maximum profitability from that investment. A well run maintenance programme and regular chats with the operators will give you some feedback on your machine s condition, but there will always be a hidden story that you re not getting. How CareTrack keeps you in touch When CareTrack is fitted to a fleet, all you will need to stay in touch with your machines is a computer with internet connection. It can be the computer in your office, in your home, or the laptop you re using via wi-fi in the hotel lounge. The internet connection will put you in touch with every machine in your fleet that is fitted with CareTrack and allow you to see where they are, how fast they have been travelling, their fuel efficiency, when they are due for a service and so on. How? CareTrack uses GSM (the Global System for Mobile communications that mobile phones use) to feed directly into the onboard computers in your fleet. It s like having each machine plugged directly into your laptop by a long, invisible cable. Using a combination of the GSM network and GPS (the Global Positioning System satellites), CareTrack moves information instantaneously from the CareTrack computer on board your machine to your on-line connection. Each machine is fitted with a small CareTrack computer with an integrated GPS receiver and modem and an antenna. The CareTrack computer is wired into the machine s on board systems giving you access to the relevant dashboard readings and more. After that, if the machine is on it s on line and you can locate it anytime you like, from wherever you are. You just have to log in through your secure CareTrack portal and your working fleet will be on line, in real time. It s like the operator giving you a complete daily technical update on their machine. How CareTrack puts your dealership in touch with you Allowing your Volvo dealership access to your CareTrack information might sound a little sinister at first but let s just think this through. If your dealership can look in your fleet, they will know when any one of your machines is going to be due for a service or maintenance, and reserve the service technician for you in plenty of time. They can also use MATRIS* to take readings from your machine without needing to be on site and let you have historic data and analysis on each machine s performance in easy to understand graph form. By having machine information available remotely, your dealership can discover what problems your machine might be experiencing before they even arrive on site. This can be used as a tool for troubleshooting machines remotely and it has many benefits. The service technician can make sure he brings the relevant parts, he ll know what to do when he gets there and even precisely where the machine is located.
