Teephone Requirements Notice US Federa Communications Commission 1. The FCC has estabished rues that permit this device to be directy connected to the teephone network. Standardized jacks are used for these connections. This equipment shoud not be used on party ines or coin ines. 2. If this device is mafunctioning, it may aso be causing harm to the teephone network; this device shoud be disconnected unti repair has been made. Symboogy This symbo on the machine indicates heated surface Eectrica Safety CAUTION Ensure that the power connection for your machine satisfies these requirements. The Document Centre requires a 115V outet. The 470/ 460/265/255 DC or ST each require a dedicated 20A circuit. The 240 DC or ST requires a dedicated 15A circuit. 1. The power receptace for the machine must meet the requirements stated on the data pate on the rear of the machine. 2. The socket outet sha be instaed near the equipment and sha be easiy accessibe. 3. Use the power cabe that is suppied with your Document Centre. Do not use an extension cord or remove or modify the power cord pug. 4. Pug the power cabe directy into a correcty grounded eectrica outet. If you are not sure, consut an eectrician. 5. Do not use an adapter to connect the Document Centre to an eectrica outet that acks a ground connection termina. 6. The power cord is the disconnect device for this machine. 7. Do not override or disabe eectrica or mechanica interocks. 8. Do not push objects into sots or openings on the machine. Eectrica shock or fire may resut. 9. Do not obstruct ventiation openings. These openings prevent overheating of the Document Centre. Page 2
Emergency Power Off If any of the foowing conditions occur, turn off the Document Centre immediatey and disconnect the power cabe from the eectrica outet. Contact an authorized Xerox Service Representative to correct the probem. The Document Centre emits unusua odors, or makes unusua noises. The power cabe is damaged or frayed. A wa pane circuit breaker, fuse, or other safety device has been tripped. Liquid is spied into the Document Centre. The Document Centre is exposed to water. Any part of the Document Centre is damaged. Safety Notes NOTE The ony method to remove a power from the Document Centre is to disconnect the power cabe from the eectrica outet. Safety Notes Page 3
Ozone Information This product produces ozone during norma operation. The ozone produced is dependent on copy voume and is heavier than air. Insta the system in a we ventiated room with the minimum cubic requirements size isted beow. Providing the correct environmenta parameter wi ensure the concentration eves meet safe imits. With specific regard to asers, the equipment compies with aser product performance standards set by governmenta, nationa, and internationa agencies as a Cass 1 Laser Product. Pease contact your oca Xerox Service Department to arrange reocation of the machine to a ocation outside of your buiding. Aways ocate the machine on a soid support surface (not on push carpet) that has adequate strength to support the weight of the machine. Aways ocate the machine in an area that has adequate ventiation and room for servicing. Aways use materias and suppies that are specificay designed for your Xerox equipment. Use of unsuitabe materias may resut in poor performance and possiby a hazardous situation. NOTE Your Document Centre is equipped with an energy saving device to conserve power when the machine is not in use. The machine may be eft on continuousy. Page 6
Never Do These Never use an adapter pug to connect equipment to a power source that acks a ground connection termina. Never obstruct ventiation openings. They are provided to prevent overheating. Never push objects of any kind into the ventiation openings. Never attempt any maintenance function that is not specificay described in the documentation. Never remove any covers or guards that are fastened with screws. There are no operator serviceabe areas within these covers. Never position the machine near a radiator or any other heat source. Never override or cheat any of the eectrica or mechanica interock devices. Never operate the equipment if you notice unusua noises or odors. Safety Extra Low Votage Approva These Xerox Digita Copiers/Printers are in compiance with various governmenta agencies and nationa safety reguations. A system ports meet the requirements for Safety Extra Low Votage (SELV) circuits for connection to customer-owned devices and networks. Additions of customer-owned or third-party accessories that are attached to these printers/copiers must meet or exceed the requirements previousy isted. CentreWare TM Print Drivers The Print Driver extends the productivity power of the Document Centre to your desktop. Some of the types of print jobs you can do are: 1-sided or 2-sided Staped sets if you have a Finisher Resoutions up to 1800x1800 dpi Add standard or customized watermarks Secure Printing (print your confidentia document after you get to the printer) CentreWare Toos The CentreWare software suite aso offers optiona User Management Toos and Network Scanning toos. Embedded Web Server Every Document Centre has a Home Page. This web page aows you to send print-ready fies to any Document Centre via the Word Wide Web. Page 10
Features at the machine Using the powerfu Document Centre features you can: Scan Once and Print Many When making copies the Document Centre ony has to scan a document once regardess of the number of copies needed. This reduces the risk of jams and damage to originas. Perform Different Tasks Simutaneousy The Document Centre performs different tasks simutaneousy. You can add a job to the job queue by scanning it, even whie the Document Centre is printing another job. Wecome Make Copies Look Like Originas The Document Centre aows the reproduction of high quaity images, especiay photographs, graphics, text, or a combination. Compare your output to that from other copiers and see the difference. Customize Image Size and Pacement You can manipuate the appearance of the image on the output stock. Shift the image to create margins for a binding device. Automaticay reduce, enarge, or center your images. Print mutipe reduced images on a singe page. Page 11
Use Digita Features to Simpify your Work Process Use the Buid Job feature to divide a copy job into different segments and appy different settings to each of the segments. This aows you to: combine originas from the Document Gass and the Document Feeder into a singe job. create a singe job, using different programming features for each origina. feed more than the maximum number of originas through the Document Feeder without reprogramming. Use the Transparency feature to produce transparencies with transparency separators in one step. Use the Booket Creation feature to automaticay sequence and reduce or enarge the images when making bookets. Use the Covers feature to automaticay add covers to your documents. Use the Mixed Size Originas feature to copy mixed size originas simutaneousy. Produce copies on uniform size paper or mixed size paper. Be Environmentay Friendy This product compies with a variety of internationa standards for environmenta protection. This machine is compatibe with most recyced paper. Quick Start Scan your originas once using the Document Feeder or use the Document Gass underneath the cover to scan originas that wi not feed through the Document Feeder. Use the Convenience Staper to restape your originas. Use Tray 5 for odd size or specia stock. Press the Touch Screen to make copy seections. Use the buttons to access other features. Making Copies Document Feeder Edge Guides Document Gass 1. Load your Originas If using the Document Feeder... Pace the originas into the Document Feeder face up, with page one on top. The originas shoud be in good condition, and without stapes or paper cips. Adjust the edge guides against the origina. Otherwise, the copies may print incorrecty or the originas may jam. For fastest performance, pace the originas Long Edge Feed with the top of the document away from you. If using the Document Gass... Use the Document Gass to copy bound, staped, foded or wrinked originas, odd or oversize documents, books, or gossy photographs. Raise the Document Gass Cover. Pace the origina face down into the top eft corner of the gass. Ensure that the top eft corner of the origina fits into the corner of the registration edge. When using the copy features; Auto Paper, Auto%, Auto Center, or Bound Originas, the cover must be raised. Press Cear A If necessary, press the Cear A button to reset the seections that were made for the previous job. Page 22

For fastest performance, pace the originas Long Edge Feed with the top of the document away from you. If using the Document Gass... Raise the Document Gass Cover. Pace the origina face down into the top eft corner of the gass. Ensure that the top eft corner of the origina fits into the corner of the registration edge. Press Cear A If necessary, press the Cear A button to reset the seections that were made for the previous job. NOTE The Document Centre has an Image Rotation feature that enabes you to feed originas Long Edge Feed (LEF) even if the destination Fax can ony print Short Edge Feed (SEF). Page 26

A pop-up screen may appear on the screen asking you to confirm the paper stock settings or to oad the required paper for the tray. Confirm or change the paper and size descriptions as required. Using the Job Queue Press the Job Status button to view the Job Queue Touch a job in the queue for additiona options. The Document Centre provides a queuing feature that sequences the printing of jobs. To view the Job Queue, press the Job Status button. Touch a job in the queue for additiona options. Press Deete to remove a job from the queue. Anyone can deete any job in the Job Queue. Press Promote to move near the top of the job queue. Press Reease to start to print a hed job. This feature is used to print the sets that are automaticay hed after using the Sampe Set or Secure Print feature. Press the Job Detais button to view detaied information about a job. Interna Auditron Login Remember: Log out to prevent unauthorized access Press the Access Button on the User Interface then press the Logout button on the Touch Screen. The Document Centre is equipped with a standard feature known as the Interna Auditron. This feature contros access to the machine and tracks copy usage. If the tracking feature is active you wi see a screen simiar to the one above. An administrator wi assign you a User Number. Use this number in the foowing procedure to ogin. 1. At the ogin screen enter your assigned User Number using the keypad. Press Enter. 2. Press Login to a Genera Account or User Pathways. If User Pathways is seected, copies wi be charged to your User Account. If Login to Genera Accounts is seected enter the Genera Account number. Getting a Secure Print (for ST modes) Foow these steps to get a secure print. At the Workstation 1. In the Windows print driver, cick Properties to get to a Document Centre Print Driver. 2. Once in the Document Centre Print Driver seect the Paper/Output Tab and cick the Job Type pu down menu. 3. Seect Secure Print. 4. Seect Secure Print Setup, enter a 4-Digit Secure Print ID then cick OK. 5. When you are ready to retrieve your secure print job go to the Document Centre. At the Document Centre 1. FAX Overview (Optiona Feature) Network Faxing is an optiona feature that aows you to send and receive faxes using a networked Document Centre connected to a network fax soution such as RightFAX Network Fax software. Getting to Know the Process Sending a FAX 1. The Document Centre scans the origina paper document and creates a digita Tagged Image Format Fie (TIFF). 2. The Document Centre transfers the TIFF fie and routing information to a Fax Repository on a Server. 3. The Network Fax Server retrieves the TIFF fie from the Fax Repository, processes it and sends it to the destination. Receiving a FAX The Network Fax Server receives an incoming Fax. After it processes the fie, the Network Fax software determines the destination of the incoming fax and sends it to the destination. Page 50

The user decides what type of settings are needed to process the scan job and where the scanned fie wi need to be sent after it is processed. 2. The user seects a Distribution Tempate that meets these requirements. 3. When the Start button is pressed, the Document Centre scans the origina document and creates a Tagged Image Format Fie (TIFF) based on the tempate seected by the user. 4. The Document Centre transfers the fie to a foder on a fie server. 5. Software instaed on either a user s workstation or a fie server retrieves the fie and sends it to its specified destination.
