This version of ITA Mail Archive is optimized to archive emails on both Microsoft Exchange 2000 and 2003 and 2007 servers. It is highly recommended that ITA Mail Archive should run on a server other than your Exchange Server. The reason for this is that archiving on a separate server allows you to recover emails should the Exchange server be unavailable due to hardware / software malfunction. Therefore, ITA Mail Archive not only archives your emails but efficiently provides a backup in case of Exchange server breakdown. Preparation and Installation: There are two stages to archive your emails. In the first stage, you archive all current email activities. In the second OPTIONAL stage you archive all the existing emails in users mail boxes. Both stages require preparation of your Exchange server. ITA Mail Archive takes advantage of a built in journaling option of Exchange servers. Follow these steps to prepare your Exchange server. Prepare Exchange Server: 3 simple steps to prepare your Exchange server for archiving Step 1: Enable Exchange Envelope Journaling Download Microsoft utility Exejcfg.exe that enables journaling from the following location. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=e7f73f10 7933 40f3 b07eebf38df3400d&displaylang=en Extract the files to a folder. Execute the command as follows:
Step 2: Create Journaling Account Create a user account and mailbox using Active Directory Users and Computers. Tip: Use a relevant name for the user such as mailarchive
Step 3: Create Journaling Account Open Exchange System Manager and navigate to <server name> Storage Group Mailbox Store Right Click on Mailbox Store and click on Properties. In the General tab, check "Archive all message sent or received by mailboxes on this store" checkbox. Click the Browse button and select journaling mailbox you created previously. In this example we have selected chosen a mailbox called "mailarchive".
Install ITA Mail Archive: Again it is highly recommended that you install ITA Mail Archive on a server other than Exchange Server. Run ITA Mailsrchive.exe. In most cases accept the default options and complete the setup.
Configure ITA Mail Archive: Click on Start All Programs ITA Mailarchive and Admin Console to bring up ITA Mail Archive Administration Console Tip: You can bring up the Admin Console in Internet Explorer by typing the IP address or hostname of your server where ITA Mail Archive is installed ex: http://localhost:7861/emailarchive in the address bar from a local or remote machine. Or you can go to Programs > ITA Mail Archive and click on Admin Console Enter the License key you received in your e mail when you downloaded ITA Mail Archive. Click Proceed.
Log in to Admin Console. Default User id: Admin Default Password: letmein Click on Modify Configuration.
Setup Journaling Account Parameters Exchange Server: Exchange Server IP or Host Name User Name and Password: Journaling account user name and your password Fetch Count: Number of emails to be archived at every fetch Setup Archiving Parameters
Setup Email Restore Parameters This configuration is used for restoring emails from ITA Mail Archive Database. Provide Your Exchange Server Name, SMTP port Exchange is listening, Admin user id and password to access Exchange Server. Existing Email Archive Parameters This configuration is used for the OPTIONAL existing Email Archiver Program provided by ITA MA.
The following step is necessary only if you want to archive you existing emails. Existing Email Archiver You will find the Existing Email Archiver utility in the ITA Mail Archive Installation folder. This utility must be run on Exchange Server. This utility does not install any Dlls which will interfere with your exchange operations. It is a simple SMTP connector which will read emails from user s mail boxes and pass a copy of those emails to ITA Mail Archive for Archiving. Run and Configure Existing Email Archiver: Provide your 1. Exchange Server Name. 2. Provide your Journaling Account which you setup earlier. 3. Provide the server name where ITA Mail Archive is running. 4. Provide the Port ITA Mail Archive SMTP is listening.
