1 Installation Instructions for Search Plug-in for Microsoft Outlook 2007 & 2010 (All Users) System Requirements: Windows XP, Vista or 7 Outlook 2007 or bit Editions 1GB of RAM Microsoft.NET Framework 4.0 or above This can be downloaded separately at: Microsoft Visual Studio Office Tools 2005 This can be downloaded separately at: dc ef8-f4de62ff1e81&displaylang=en Installation procedure Before running the installer, make sure Outlook is closed. If you run the Setup.exe it will install needed prerequisites, like the Microsoft.NET 4.0 Framework and Microsoft Visual Studio Tools The MSI file will install just the Outlook plug-in this is for use when upgrading versions or if the prerequisite software already exists. Accept the EULA when prompted. During installation of the Outlook plug-in it will install to the default path, typically C:\programfiles\tangent\/xxxx. It is recommended to change this path to C:\tangent\xxxx for Windows Vista and 7 environments, due to inherent security restrictions in the Program Files directory. Once installation completes, open Outlook. End user instructions After installation of the Outlook plug-in, there will be a DataCove drop down button on the menu bar, typically next to the Help button. Users will

2 have the ability to access their archived s by running their searches from their Outlook client. Even in the event the mail server is down, users will be able to view and download their archived s. First, click on the DataCove button and select Server Communication Configuration.

3 A new pop up window will appear; enter the login credentials provided by your Administrator and the DataCove address (hostname or IP). Press OK to save. Once saved, changes are kept for future use. Now you will be able to run searches. Your username will give you access to your own address or more depending on the rules set by the Administrator. You can access the Search function from the drop down menu under DataCove to be able to search through your archived s. Refer to the Help option for searching examples and type of searches you can run.

4 Once you input the search parameters and click Search Now, a list of results will appear on the display panel below. You can right click the and choose to open the and/or copy the to a folder in your Outlook mailbox. You can select some or all of the s by pressing and holding the Shift or Ctrl keys. Once the has been copied to your Outlook client, you can treat it as a typical in your mailbox. Note: The Move To Folder and Remove From View option removes the selected (s) from the search results pane, but does not remove it from the archive itself. End users will have access only for downloading and viewing the , but no ability to delete them.

5 Conversion to PST files of results Occasionally, you may need to present the s as a PST file. We recommend creating a new folder for restoring s in this fashion. Once you have the necessary s in the folder, follow the steps below to Export as a PST file. For Outlook 2007: 1. On the menu bar, click File > Import and Export > Export to file > Personal Folder File (PST). 2. Select the folder with the s to be converted to PST. 3. Browse to the path where the file is to be saved and name the PST file. 4. Select replace duplicates with items exported. A copy of those s will now be extracted and converted into the PST format to the location specified in Step 3. After completion, the PST file is now ready for distribution to the necessary parties.

6 Special installation and configuration notes: These system-wide plug-ins load and behave similarly to plug-ins that are installed for a Single User, but there are some important differences to remember when deploying plug-ins for All Users: Administrative privileges are required on the system in order to install a plug-in for All Users. Writing to HKLM in the registry requires administrative privileges, so you cannot install the plug-in with limited user privileges. By selecting the Setup.exe for the plug-in and installing as a user with administrative/hklm privileges (or if on Vista/Windows 7, rightclicking and choosing 'Run as administrator'), the plug-in can be installed normally. End users operating with limited user privileges cannot install/uninstall or disable a plug-in. Attempts to do so could potentially lead to an undesirable scenario such as a plug-in failing unexpectedly, resulting in the host Outlook application crashing, and the end user being unable to do anything to stop the Outlook application from crashing because they cannot disable the plug-in causing the crash. It is recommended to make sure your plug-in is thoroughly tested in all potential environments to be encountered at the site before deploying it to all users of a network. Since the plug-in is not currently signed with a trusted publisher's certificate, each individual user sees the Microsoft Outlook Customization Installer dialog box (User Access Control trust prompt) asking them whether they want to install the plug-in the very first time the plug-in is loaded for them. If they choose to install the plug-in, the plug-in will run and they will not be prompted again. However, if they choose not to install the plug-in, the plug-in will not load and they will continue to see this dialog box every time they open up Outlook and the plug-in attempts to load.
