Online Leadership & Management Development LMD Corporate learning experiences tailored to your organization.

Leadership and Management Development [LMD] builds organizational capabilities... By developing core characteristics of good leaders, employees will contribute to better outputs, better productivity and a better strategic environment. LMD courses are cost-effective solutions for organizations and associations who want their own in-house development programs for high performing employees, new managers, or the executive suite. LMD courses are created from segments of AU s online Executive MBA program. I m thrilled that we have created an attractive and competitive professional development option for organizations of all shapes and sizes. I m very proud of these courses and of the positive feedback we ve received from organizations and students! Deborah Hurst, PhD Dean (Acting) LMD Program Director Organizational Benefits CUSTOM TAILORED LEARNING AU s Leadership and Management Development (LMD) team will work with clients to create a bundle of courses or certificate program to address organizational knowledge requirements. Clients have the ability to customize each weekly discussion question and final assignment to ensure learning outcomes are linked to organizational goals. GROW YOUR CAPABILITIES Develop your employees soft skills through LMD courses by building on their strategic management and leadership potential. LMD courses will enhance your employees knowledge and skills allowing them to set new goals, take on new projects and think strategically. These new capabilities will create opportunities for organizational growth. COST CONTAINMENT LMD courses allow organizations to contain costs while developing their talent. Each four week LMD course is $1,108.00, which includes online learning tools, materials (textbooks/readings) and fees. Your employees are not required to travel and can complete course assignments outside of work allowing for little to no lost time or other opportunity costs. IMMEDIATE ROI Students are required to apply management concepts and theories to their workplace throughout their courses. Your organization gains a direct and immediate return from the very first week.

RECOGNITION OF ACHIEVEMENT MBA TRANSFER CREDIT LMD courses are graduate level study, with challenging readings and assignments, and strict requirements for completion consistent with any university course. Each student receives a letter grade and a certificate upon successful completion. LMD courses offer the potential for transfer credit into the AU online Executive MBA program. Each LMD course can be used as one credit hour, should the student be accepted into the MBA. Taking LMD courses is an excellent option for employees who want to test-drive MBA-level studies. THE AU ADVANTAGE ACCREDITATION IN CANADA AND THE UNITED STATES When employees enroll in an online LMD program at Athabasca University, they are connected to a powerful online learning environment that has stood the test of time. In 1994, AU logged on with the world s first fully interactive online MBA program, and since then has continued to build a tradition of online excellence in management education, including the launch of Canada s first online Doctorate in Business Administration in 2009. Athabasca University is one of four comprehensive, research intensive, publicly funded universities in Alberta, reporting to the Minister of Advanced Education and Technology, and is a member of the Association of Universities and Colleges of Canada. AU is also accredited in the U.S. by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE). The LMD course benefited me as a manager... I decided to enroll in the Leadership Challenge LMD course with AU for two reasons. First, I believed the course would benefit me as a manager by advancing the relationships between myself and my team, and I was right. Second, I wanted to determine if I was capable of success in graduate level studies in general and especially in the online environment. I came away with a better understanding of what would be necessary to pursue an MBA in terms of workload and type of course material. After the course, I did apply to AU, and to say I m enjoying taking the MBA online is an understatement. Joel Schraven, Entrepreneur and AU MBA student Any time, any location, virtually any management-related topic.

Athabasca offered us the flexibility and high-level strategic perspective we were looking for. The gaming and casino industry is unique and huge, with over 135,000 employees in Canada coast to coast. Our employees at Manitoba Lotteries were previously forced to travel to the U.S. for any type of gaming leadership development until we partnered with AU s Faculty of Business to develop a custom tailored certificate in Gaming Leadership for our employees. AU worked with us to create case studies, discussion questions and final assignments relevant to the gaming industry, with real situations our people actually face. We are thrilled to be able to offer this level of program for our employees and we are able to develop it because of AU s flexibility, support and expertise. Judith Hayes, MEd Director, Canadian Gaming Centre of Excellence Manitoba Lotteries How LMD Courses Work POWERFUL ONLINE LEARNING AU s established online learning environment enables students to access and discuss materials online, as well as learn from professors and fellow students across geographic boundaries, industries and time zones. OPTION FOR AN OPEN ENVIRONMENT It can be beneficial for employees to take courses in an open environment, meaning they will join LMD students from other organizations. The advantage of this is exposure to the thoughts, practices, and experiences of professionals in other industries and management roles. Another option is a private environment which allows opportunities for customizing assignments to your own organization. The choice is yours; open and diverse learning or private and custom-tailored to your organization. Our LMD advisors can help you decide which route is best for you. PEER LEARNING Peer learning is at the heart of the LMD learning environment, as it has been in our online Executive MBA program since 1994. Interaction among academics and students from diverse backgrounds is extremely high; active discussions lead to questions, challenges, new ideas and solutions. PROVEN EFFECTIVE LMD courses are developed and taught by AU s experienced professors. Their role is not to lecture, but rather to guide discussions and collaborations toward effective peer learning. LMD moves beyond many professional development programs. In every course there are clear learning objectives, deliverables, and demonstration of learning. TIME COMMITMENT Each LMD course is four weeks in length and requires a time commitment of eight to twelve hours per week. Students will have required readings, weekly assignments, online discussions and a final paper. ASYNCHRONOUS ENVIRONMENT LMD courses are completed asynchronously, meaning students complete course requirements at times and places that best fit their schedule as long as they meet assignment deadlines and group commitments.

Athabasca University s (AU) online Leadership and Management Development (LMD) courses turn elements of AU s highly successful online Executive MBA program into targeted learning solutions tailored to the needs of your organization. LMD COURSE TOPICS Courses are grounded in management theory and focus on direct applicability to your employee s day-to-day work. Examples of some of the topic areas include: Leadership & Change Management Coaching & Team Development Strategic Management & Ethical Decision Making Human Resources Management & Conflict Resolution Project Sponsorship & Project Management Strategic Supply Chain Management & Outsourcing Productivity Management & Quality Management Entrepreneurship & Small Business Management There are more than forty courses and topics available. We can work with you to customize and/or create new courses or programs to fit your organization s unique needs. IDEAL CANDIDATES LMD courses are ideal for new and experienced managers and executives who are poised to take on additional responsibility within their departments or in your overall organization.
