Since then, he has received many commissions, both public and private, in the areas of sports and culture in Europe, South Korea and Japan. In 2014, he completed DC Towers, the tallest skyscraper in Vienna and the emblem of the city s new business district, as well as the Grand Théâtre des Cordeliers in Albi in southern France. He is also a member of the Scientific Board of the Atelier International du Grand Paris. A façade imagined by Dominique Perrault We decided on a simple but powerful approach that simultaneously sets the building apart and unifies it. The façade is covered with an immense metal mesh, whose silver colour creates a link with other emblematic structures in the vicinity. The mesh - known as the Great Sail - is positioned several metres in front of the existing façade, creating a covered gallery and canopy. By turns iridescent, reflective and transparent, it reflects both daylight and evening illumination, and seems to shimmer depending on the passer-by s point of view. A large screen, fitted with LEDs and positioned in the centre of the Sail, will be used to broadcast multimedia content concerning events taking place in Pavilion 1. 6 7
CULTIVATE THE EXTRAORDINARY AT PARIS EXPO PORTE DE VERSAILLES THE FORECOURT OF PAVILION 4 PAVILION 7 To improve the visitor experience and strongly highlight the Pavilion s main entrance, a vast canopy will cover the forecourt, sheltering visitors from inclement weather. Openings in its surface will provide natural light and allow the trees planted at its base to flourish. façade imagined A by valode & pistre Pavilion 4 will house Viparis s offices, an exhibitors service centre and a restaurant. 8 Valode & Pistre is an international agency, founded in 1980 by Denis Valode and Jean Pistre. Its areas of expertise include architecture, interior design, urban design and engineering. With an approach that emphasises the contextual and natural aspects of a project, Valode & Pistre have received commissions around the world, and have offices in China and Russia. Designed in 1969 by architects Raymond Gravereaux and Gilles Thin, the original reinforced concrete structure, characteristic of the 1960s, will be enhanced and modernized. The blind surfaces of the northern façade, to the right of the atrium, will be opened up and a new glazed curtain wall will be created. Undulating glass surfaces will create a rippling effect at each level, symbolizing the never-ending movement of the exhibitions and the momentum that brings the entire Park to life. Visitors to Pavilion 7 are treated to a breathtaking view of Paris. The roof seems to float above the structure s glazed top floor, where conferences will be held. The upper part of the atrium s façade, parallel to the central pedestrian thoroughfare, incorporates signage for the new conference and convention centre, heralding the Exhibition Centre s revival. 9
