Students will then be given their options based on their results. The two preparation options include: Teacher-Led instruction with Open Lab Preparation If students score below a 10.0 level on the TABE, they will be placed in a program that will primarily focus on raising their reading comprehension. Students who score a 10.0 or above will focus on taking practice tests to determine their strengths and weaknesses. These students will then be assigned content specific coursework. In addition, students enrolled will attend teacher-led Math, English, Science, and Social Studies classes structured around key concepts covered in the HiSET test. CLASS MEETINGS: Monday - Thursday (8 weeks), 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm Home Study Preparation Students who score above a 10.0 on the TABE can choose to enroll in the Home Study Program. Students in this program will take subject pre-tests and then will be given DVDs and work packets to study from home. The student then meets with a teacher one day or night per week and the teacher will monitor progress and recommend when the student is ready to take the exam. HiSET (HIGH SCHOOL EQUIVALENCY TEST) PAPER/PENCIL TEST ENGLISH AND SPANISH SCHEDULE Test Schedule: September 2, 2015 June 16, 2015 Registration is REQUIRED in person Register: Monday - Friday, 9:00 am - 3:00 pm in Bungalow 1 (Behind the front office building) No testing: Veterans Day (Nov 11), Thanksgiving Recess (Nov 23-27), Winter Recess (Dec 21 Jan 1), Martin Luther King Jr. Day (Jan 18) You can t test on the same day that you register. If space is available, the soonest you can test is the next day after you register. Registration requirements: Before registration: Create a HiSET account (or during registration if you can t do it on your own). During registration: Provide proof of proper ID, pay fees, have your ETS # (if you set up your account on your own), and schedule your TEST dates. Minimum scale score needed: 8 out of 20 on each subject AND a total of 45 out of 100 for the entire exam. After successful completion of Intermediate High/Advanced, students are encouraged to enroll in the HiSET Preparation program, or Job Training programs offered at Long Beach School for Adults. Certified Nursing Assistant Adult Job Training Classes Fee $1500 9 weeks (Payment plans are available) MTWTHF 7:30 am - 12:30 pm B15 Gavel/Stanek Enrollment for this course is ongoing, meaning applicants may enroll anytime during the school year to enroll in the next upcoming Nursing Assistant course. Enrollment is on a first-come, first-serve basis, so applicants are encouraged to enroll as soon as possible. Training will be available in public and private animal care facilities. Student must complete two (2) semesters to earn a Certificate of Completion.
TO ENROLL Adults are welcome to enroll by visiting the Long Beach School for Adults Office (B1). No refunds will be given after the second class meeting. We only accept cash, Visa or MasterCard. PRIORITY, CANCELLATION AND DROP PROCEDURES Enrollment is on a first come, first served basis. Completion of the application form does not guarantee a place in the class. Adult students must pay a fee and attend the first class session to complete enrollment. Any class that has not attained a minimum enrollment by the end of the first week may be canceled. If a class is cancelled within the first week, students may elect to receive a refund of their class enrollment fee. Any student who does not qualify to be placed out at the time of internship or is dismissed from the placement site will be dropped from the class no refund of fees.
