Advanced ESL/EL CIVICS: Students will continue to improve listening, speaking and writing skills in English. Students will expand writing skills to include paragraph and full length papers. Emphasis on workplace skills and further academic training will be included. Many units from prior schools attended are transferable. Completion of 170 credits and passing the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE) are required for graduation with a high school diploma. Total Course Credits Required English 40 Math 10 Algebra 10 Science 20 Social Studies 30 Fine Arts 10 Electives 50 Total Credits HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA COURSES General Science: This course meets graduation requirements for Science. Class will consist of lectures, experiments and assignments.
4 English/Language Arts: This is a basic English class that includes instruction on parts of speech, types of sentences, punctuation, capitalization, spelling, and writing. This class will prepare the student for the CAHSEE test. Math 1/Algebra: Students in this class will begin with a review of whole numbers, fractions, decimals, percents, statistics, and measurements, then proceed to learn basic algebra involving positive and negative whole numbers and fractions. This class will prepare the student for the CAHSEE test. Social Studies: This course meets requirement for social studies specific course offered depends on enrollment. Students meet weekly with their teacher for assistance and direction and must also commit to completing 15 hours of academic work each week. One credit is awarded for 10 hours of work completed successfully. This course is designed for students who can work independently, have passed the CAHSEE, and are within 20 credits of graduating. Students must be 18 years or older to take the GED test. GED tests are given at the Stanislaus County Office of Education in English and at Merced Adult School
