4 Sonic Fitting Guide Hearing Systems Overview Behind-the-ear (BTE) hearing instruments are available in different styles and with various acoustic options, depending on the patient s degree of hearing loss, the anatomy of the client s ear, and individual style preferences. This guide is designed to help you fit and manage BTE hearing instruments. 6 Sonic Fitting Guide Acoustic Options All BTE models covered in this Fitting Guide can either be fitted with a conventional earhook or with the minifit thin tube system. Traditional earhooks are used with a custom earmold. The thin tube system can be combined with a variety of different domes and customized ear pieces. All Compact Power Plus, Power and Nano BTEs need to be fitted with the minifit thin tube system. All BTEs also allow custom fittings with a Custom Mold and Lite Tip. Conventional Earhook Available Acoustic Options minifit Thin Tubes Thin Tube Adapter Thin Tube 0.9 mm Thin Tube 1.3 mm Thin Tube Domes minifit Domes 6 mm 8 mm 10 mm 12 mm Open Bass, Double Vent Bass, Single Vent Power Custom Fit Custom Mold Lite Tip

Sonic Fitting Guide 7 Thin Tube lengths To ensure a secure fitting with maximum patient comfort, the proper thin tube length should be selected for each patient before fitting a BTE instrument. Length Size Code XShort 0 Short 1 Medium 2 Long 3 Sonic minifit Thin Tubes come in four different lengths, and a red (Right) or blue (Left) marker on the thin tube identifies the orientation. Determining the proper Thin Tube length Fitting tool for minifit Thin Tubes To determine which thin tube length is most appropriate for your patient, use the fitting tool from your Sonic minifit Thin Tube Kit. 0 1 2 3

Sonic Fitting Guide 9 Attaching and Removing the Earhook or Thin Tube Adapter All BTE hearing instruments are available with either the minifit thin tube system or a conventional earhook. Compact Power Plus and Power BTE 1 Use the pointed end of the disassembly tool to push the lock pin free 2 Replace the hook or adapter with the desired part 3 Replace the lock pin (tweezers make this easier) Use the pointed end of the disassembly tool to push the lock pin. Remove hook or adapter. Nano BTE 1 Pull the adapter or the hook upwards from the instrument 2 Replace with a new hook or an adapter by pushing the desired part firmly onto the instrument

10 Sonic Fitting Guide Changing the Dome 1 Pull the used dome off the thin tube and discard 2 With clean hands, firmly push a new dome onto the thin tube as far as it will go If the dome is not pushed all the way onto the thin tube, it could fall off in the ear canal. Note! The soft domes are a disposable part. The client should be supplied with spare domes and shown how to change them. Installation of Right/Left Indicators 1 Open the battery door and insert the marker end into slot as shown 2 Twist and rotate the stick to break off the marker 3 Close the battery door VR_ILU_NanoBTEInstMarking3_CMYK_HI VR_ILU_NanoBTEInstMarking1_BW_HI VR_ILU_NanoBTEInstMarking2_CMYK_HI Nano BTE

Refer to page 11 to see how to change the battery door. 1 Replace the battery door 2 With the battery in place, plug the DAI or FM adapter as shown 3 Close the battery door 4 To remove the DAI or FM adapter, open the battery door and unplug

Sonic Fitting Guide 15 Using the FM Adapter The Compact Power Plus and Power BTE hearing instruments are compatible with all commonly available ear level FM systems (FM receivers). The connection is established via the Europlug. Choose the FM adapter also when attaching a CROS microphone unit to the hearing instrument. Using the DAI Adapter Direct Audio Input (DAI) enables the hearing aid to receive signals directly from external sources such as a TV, personal stereo, PC audio output, MP3 player, etc. The DAI Adapter offers a Europlug connection to establish a wired coupling via the DAI cord to an external source. The DAI Adapter comes with two adjustable trimmers. Use the trimmer on the front to adjust the individual volume. The trimmer on the top selects the input impedance. 2 2 1 4 1 4 HI LO Position HI: TV, stereo, MP3 player, PC, etc. Position LO: Bodyworn FM solutions

16 Sonic Fitting Guide Fitting Sonic BTE Hearing Instruments with EXPRESSfit BTE hearing systems are programmed with EXPRESSfit using new standard (no. 2) programming cables. Some BTE models need a battery to be programmed. Please always insert a fresh battery prior to programming. Attaching the Programming Cables Compact Power Plus BTE 1 Open the battery door fully and slide the programming adapter into the slot until it lines up with the instrument 2 Close the battery door again and plug in the cable as shown Power BTE 1 Open the battery door fully. There is no need to insert a battery when programming. 2 Plug the cable into the connector

Sonic Fitting Guide 17 Nano BTE 1 Remove the cover with the small tool as shown 2 Plug the cable into the connector 3 To replace the cover, hook the top end under the shell first, then snap it in place

18 Sonic Fitting Guide FittingLINK Programming with FittingLINK FittingLINK is a wireless programming interface which allows fitting of all wireless hearing instruments. FittingLINK is connected to the PC via the provided dedicated Bluetooth dongle or USB cable. The FittingLINK Instructions for Use, provided in the packaging, contains important information about the product, its functions and pairing it with the PC. Please read the Instructions for Use carefully before using FittingLINK with EXPRESSfit. Getting Started Please prepare FittingLINK and pair it with your PC, as described in the FittingLINK Instructions for Use. When opening EXPRESSfit the first time after FittingLINK has been installed on the PC, it will automatically be detected as a programming interface. A dialog will offer to change your preferred programming interface to FittingLINK. This can be done any time later in Preferences Communication. Thereafter FittingLINK can be used in EXPRESSfit.

Sonic Fitting Guide 19 Detecting and Programming Hearing Instruments Make sure that FittingLINK is paired with your PC, fully charged, and switched on (steady green light on the top LED indicator). For safety reasons the hearing instruments should not be in the client s ear during detection. To ensure a good connection, make sure that the hearing instruments are aligned the correct way towards the FittingLINK neck loop antenna. Refer to the FittingLINK Instructions for Use. Open EXPRESSfit and click Detect. If FittingLINK is not selected as the default programming interface, select the FittingLINK option from the pull down menu besides the Detect button. Verify Right and Left Hearing Instruments In the Detect Hearing Instruments dialog, you can play a tone in each hearing instrument to identify to which side it is currently assigned. If the assignment is correct, click Next. If you would like to change the assignment, click Exchange and then click Next. Thereafter the fitting process is the same. For troubleshooting, please also refer to the FittingLINK Instructions for Use.
