ECR SERIES - SPECIFICATIONS AND BENEFITS ECR Series - Specifications and Benefits Product Description All ECR motors are electronically commutated (ECM) motors with fully enclosed (ECR82/92, ECR80/90) or external (ECR81/91) electronic control. The motors are energy saving replacements of shaded pole and PSC motors used in evaporators and condensers in refrigeration applications. Energy saved when compared to shaded pole motors* 70% Energy Savings Direct energy savings: ~ 70%. Waste heat savings: motor runs cool when compared to shaded pole and PSC motors so very little heat is released inside the refrigerator. Maintenance and service savings: ECR motor design life is longer than shaded pole motors due to higher moisture resistance, the use of ball bearings, and the motors cool operating temperature. In countries with high voltage fluctuations in the power supply, the ECR82/92 can last up to three times longer than shaded pole motors. High energy savings mean very short payback periods. In most applications, ECR motors payback period is shorter than six months. Technology in the ECR82/92 means that the motor maintains an absolutely constant speed across a wide voltage range (185-250V and 90-140V). The ECR82/92 achieve this with on board electronics and special software that measures the AC supply many times each second and locks the motor speed to the AC supply frequency. Timed Reverse available on ECR82/92 and 81/91. Automatically reverse condenser fans for a software preset time during compressor off periods. Helps keep condenser fins and coils cleaner and more efficient. No relays needed, saving costs. 2
Drop in Replacement of Shaded Pole and PSC Motors All ECR motors were designed as drop in replacements for shaded pole and PSC motors. Standard design, size, mounting options and accessories make this fast and easy. ECR motors are available with refrigeration size metal and plastic axial fan blades and wall rings. Mounting Options Rear mounting with three standard sets of M4 or 8-36 UNF threaded holes. Wall rings and guard grilles mounting with four M4 or 8-36 UNF threaded bolts protruding on motor shaft side. Side mounting with motor brackets. Shaft end coupling accomodates standard axial fan blades. Compact ECR motors are the same size as a 9W shaded pole motor, but deliver much higher power. One ECR motor replaces a wide range of shaded pole motors, reducing inventory. Mounting Position Our ECR motors are equipped with ball bearings and can be mounted in any position. Moisture and Dust Protection ECR motors are designed to operate in a high moisture environment. We achieve superior moisture resistance with the following construction features (IP55 version): Plastic motor body and plastic components Electronic control protected against moisture Seal on shaft to block humidity No laminations IP55 grommet Fully enclosed ball bearings Sealed end shield Materials Our ECR motors are built using 30% less copper and 80% less steel for a greener, more affordable electronically commutated (ECM) motor. Different airflow performance is achieved by selecting fan blades of different size and pitch. UltraSynch technology means that the motor speed remains absolutely constant regardless of power supply fluctuations (for more information refer to page 2). Locked rotor/stall detection switches the motor to standby mode and restarts it after 40 seconds if motor fails to start or if speed is forced outside the preset range. This software detection protects the motor with a timed restart algorithm to limit maximum winding temperature. Resettable thermal protection stops the motor if over-temperature occurs. The motor restarts when the winding temperature is back within the operating range. ECR82/92 motors are IP44 standard and are available as IP55 upon request for even higher moisture and dust protection. In all ECR82/92 motors a conformal coating is applied to the electronic control board for complete moisture protection. ECR82: 190V-253V. ECR92: 90V-140V. Reversible. Direction of rotation can be either CCW SE (standard) or CW SE (upon request) as seen when facing the motor from Shaft End. For CCW SE rotation, the black and blue wires are connected together. For CW SE rotation, the black wire is connected to the brown wire. IP55 for even higher humidity and dust protection. Timed reverse: motor reverses direction of rotation during defrost and keeps condenser coils clean and more efficient. This reduces energy and service costs. Different shaft length. The ECR80/90 motors are IP44 standard and are available as IP55 upon request for even higher moisture and dust protection.
