AUDITORIUM DETAILS Auditorium Capacity Full auditorium (with permanent small orchestra pit): 970 Auditorium with optional large orchestra pit: (less 33 seats) 541 Stalls only (with permanent small orchestra pit): 572 Dress Circle: 398 The AFCT holds eight house seats, which are included in the capacities listed above and not available for sale. Orchestra Pit Small & Large The Small Orchestra Pit is a permanent feature of the theatre, and its use does not reduce the available seating capacity in the auditorium. The Small Pit has a timber cover (painted matt black), which is fitted as part of standard rig. Hirers intending to use the Small Orchestra Pit must allow AFCT staff time to remove the cover during the set up, and to replace it at the conclusion of the event. The Small Pit is 8.53mtrs wide x 4.88mtrs total depth from back wall of pit on the centre line. The floor of the pit is 2.36mtrs below the surface of the stage. The Small Pit has a recommended capacity of 26 musicians. The orchestra pit is accessed from under the stage via two doors. The Large Orchestra Pit is created by removing Rows A and B of the stalls seating, to extend the Orchestra Pit. The extended pit has 6.46mtrs total depth from back wall of pit on centre line. The large pit has a recommended capacity of 45 musicians. NB: Please note: Hirers must clearly specify if the large orchestra pit is required when completing the Second Schedule of the Theatre Hire Contract (BASS Requirements Form). Mixer Seats The removable mixer seats are located off centre at the rear of the stalls. Standard Mixer Holds: Row Q seats 24 31 and Row R seats 23 30 inclusive. (16 seats in total) NB: Hirers must clearly specify the number of mixer seats when completing the Second Schedule of the Theatre Hire Contract (BASS Requirements Form) Any rear auditorium multicore cable runs can easily be installed via a large PVC pipe in a direct route to the pit then up onto stage. Access from Stage to Auditorium Permanent access is available from auditorium to stage via the emergency stairwells on Prompt and OP. The theatre s aluminium loading ramp (noted below) must be used when moving heavy sound equipment between the stage and auditorium. STAGE DETAILS AND DIMENSIONS Proscenium Dimensions Decorative relief plaster arch painted mat black Width: 9.95mtrs Height: 6.5mtrs Tormentor There is a tormentor (false proscenium) permanently installed at the rear of the proscenium arch. The tormentor is of steel frame construction covered in black wool with a 9.95mtrs opening. This structure is not adjustable and cannot be removed. The rear of the tormentor forms the setting line in this theatre. Pelmet The theatre has a black woollen covered pelmet permanently hung on line 3 of the flying system 0.12mtrs upstage from the setting line. The height of the pelmet is adjustable. Stage Surface No Rake and painted matt black. Material: 30mm thick tongue and groove pine covered with 6mm Masonite. The flying system is manually operated from stage level prompt side. The intervals between fly lines vary around an average of 6ins (Approx. 15.24cm). Please refer to the hanging plot for precise barrel positions. Panorama masking must be dead hung from the fly floor rails when it is required. House Curtain The house curtain is red with a gold fringe, and hung on Counterweight Line No. 1 located 0.19mtrs down stage of the setting line. The house curtain has a fly action only, and is manually operated from prompt corner. It runs on guide wires set inside the tormentor. It is 30mm thick with a centre split. Fire Curtain Her Majesty s Theatre has a solid fire curtain 0.55mtrs down stage of the setting line, which must remain unobstructed at all times. The curtain is a metal frame construction and covered with fireproof cloth. The downstage face of the fire curtain (as seen from the auditorium) has been scenic painted with an historic view of the theatre s exterior. The fire curtain is raised by an electrical winch and gravity closed. The curtain is operated by the Head Mechanist from the control panel in prompt corner. In accordance with the AFCT s Safety Procedures the fire curtain is lowered prior to the opening of the house, and then raised in view of some of the audience five minutes after the auditorium has been opened to the public. Rigging Points NB. The theatre hiring agreement requires details and weights of all suspended objects to be provided by the hirer in writing. Touring trusses and speakers can be hung from the stage grid. Six front of house rigging points (2 per side, 2 in the centre) are also available and marked on the plan. All rigging must be supervised by one of the AFCT s house riggers at the hirer s expense. HER MAJESTY S THEATRE STANDARD RIG Standard Rig describes the setup of the theatre at the commencement of a hire period. The hirer is responsible for the costs of returning to standard rig when changes are made. The easiest and most cost effective way of staging small events at Her Majesty s Theatre is to work within the standard rig. Her Majesty's Theatre Technical Specifcation_06_06_14.doc Page 7 of 16

Production Desk Facilities A production desk can be set up in the centre of the stalls with a mimic VDU from the lighting console, talk back headsets and shout back mic. Control Rooms The Sound Control Room is at the rear of the auditorium Stalls level on the OP side. It has a sliding glass window with limited viewing. The Lighting Control Room is at the rear of the auditorium dress circle, off centre OP The Follow Spot / Projection booth is at the rear of the dress circle, centre. Her Majesty s Theatre 3 Phase Power Supplies: When additional power is required the AFCT will supply, at the hirer s expense, an A Class electrician to hard wire a feed from the rack room. In these circumstances it is essential that power requirements are clearly detailed in the Hirer s Technical Requirements form. Australian Power: 415 V 50 Hz 3 Phase & Neutral & Earth 240V 50 Hz single phase Additional Staging Items Music Stands and Sconces The theatre has a stock of 20 music stands with sconce lights Tarkett Dance Tarkett is not supplied as part of the theatre s standard rig equipment. Upon request (and subject to availability) Tarkett can be sourced from the Adelaide Festival Centre. Transport charges will apply. Rostra The theatre has an extremely limited stock of rostra. Please notify the Production Coordinator of your requirements additional transport and handling charges will apply when rostra is supplied from the Adelaide Festival Centre Pianos Her Majesty s Theatre has a brown Yamaha upright piano at stage level in a storage room. Concert grand pianos and uprights for stage or pit use are available from the Festival Theatre by arrangement with the Production Coordinator. Transport (including moves between the orchestra pit and stage) and tuning charges apply. STAGE MANAGEMENT CONTROL SYSTEMS Prompt Corner The Stage Manager s console is situated in Prompt Corner and is provided with talkback, cast call, telephone (82168999), stage sound speaker, a FOH video monitor and an announcement microphone. Talkback The theatre is equipped with a Clearcom wired talkback system. There are stations located in the sound and lighting control rooms, technical offices, OP and P corner, the fly rail, production desk in the auditorium. Additional outstations subject to availability. The theatre does NOT have a radio talkback system but the AFC Sound Department can organise to hire one, at hirer s expense, on request. Cue Lights For further information, contact the Sound Department on (08) 8216 8797 Cast Call and Stage Sound Relay Her Majesty s Theatre has cast call and stage sound in all dressing rooms and technical offices. Warning Bell System The Front of House Manager controls the warning bell system in the foyers and public areas. Internal Telephone System The telephone at the Stage Manager's console gives direct communications to House Manager, offices, box office, etc. Stage Monitor Facilities Television monitoring facilities are available in prompt corner. Additional monitors are not part of the standard rig, but may be installed by AFCT Sound Department when required and a hire charge will apply. Wardrobe Work Room The wardrobe room is located on stage level adjacent to the loading dock. approximately 15sq m (Approx. 149sq ft). THEATRE ACCESS Stage Door The stage door is located in Pitt Street, and is normally staffed two hours prior to each performance. If it is required that stage door be staffed outside of these hours due to company access eg rehearsals, this may be arranged with the Production Coordinator assigned to the event. Please note that the Head Mechanist must be present at all times hirers require access to the building. Stage Door Telephone: (08) 8216 8774 There is also a public telephone adjacent to stage door. Loading Dock The dock door is situated at the rear of the back stage area, and is 0.83 metres above the road. Dimensions: 8ft (Approx. 2.44m) wide x 12ft (Approx. 3.65m) high. Load in straight onto stage NB: End loading vehicles cannot fit flush up to the dock The theatre has a 6m long x 0.9m wide aluminium loading ramp to bridge the gap between the dock and truck. Semi trailers cannot back into the dock, they must be unloaded on the street and the set and equipment carried or forked to the dock. Council Permits must be obtained, trained AFCT staff need to be rostered to traffic manage for the duration of unloading and loading. Loading crew and a Forklift can be employed to unload the semi trailer and deliver set and equipment to the dock for the Theatre Crew to put on stage. The cost of Council Permits, Traffic Management, Loaders and Forklift will be borne by the Hirer. Drivers cannot leave their vehicles unattended at any time. Parking for semi trailers is not available at the theatre. The AFCT has a strictly enforced policy that all touring sound equipment is loaded in and out of the theatre via the loading dock. Hirers must schedule their truck movements and stage activity in accordance with this condition. Car Parking There is no off street parking available for visiting artists or crew at Her Majesty s Theatre. Commercial parking is available close by in the Pitt Street, Central Market and Grote Street car parks. Security The Festival Centre Trust does not accept responsibility for valuables, including computers and musical equipment, brought into the theatre. Wallets, purses and jewellery should never be left in dressing rooms. The Stage Door Attendant/Security can hold such items for the duration of each performance. Smoking Smoking is strictly prohibited in all areas of the theatre. Artists and crew wishing to smoke must do so in the loading dock lane. Electrical Testing Please ensure that any electrical equipment brought into the Theatre has been tested and has a current tag. HER MAJESTY S LIGHTING STANDARD RIG EQUIPMENT NB: The following lighting equipment is included with the hire of the venue on the condition that it is operated by, or under the supervision of, AFCT technicians. Lecterns The Festival Centre has black lecterns approximately 1.8m high. Any requirement to use lecterns must be included in the Hirer s Technical Requirements Form to ensure availability Consumables Any sound consumables, including batteries, electrical tape, cable ties and gaffa tape will be charged as used. Equipment Availability The AFCT reserves the right to vary the specified standard rig due to the maintenance and operational requirements of the organisation. Hearing assistance Hearing system is installed in the Her Majesty s Theatre for hearing impaired patrons. Patrons wishing to use this service must ask for FOH for assistance. Sound Studio The AFCT offers studio services from recording, editing, dubbing and a large effects library charged at hourly rates. Bookings can be made by contacting the Sound Department on (08) 8216 8743. Loading Policy The AFCT has a strictly enforced policy that all touring sound equipment is loaded in and out of the theatre via the loading dock. Hirers must schedule their truck movements and stage activity in accordance with this condition.
