Bali - Ubud & surroundings "well known as the Island of Gods or the Island of thousand temples" Teaching English; Ubud - Central Bali Ubud is the un-official cultural capital of tourism in Bali. While Ubud is one of Bali's main attractions and there are no shortage of tourists here, Ubud has managed to preserve most of its culture and traditions making it a great place to admire Balinese handcrafts, witness a traditional dance or ceremony. As Ubud caters to tourists, you will have no trouble finding any type of food or amenity you could possibly need. Along with these perks comes a crowd, but there are many villages just outside the city to escape the crowds and witness a more authentic picture of Balinese life. The town itself is located in the regency of Gianyar and sits in the foothills of Bali's famous mountains and volcanoes. Ubud is surrounded by lush terraced rice fields and many small villages. From Ubud it is only a one hour shuttle ride to the tourist district of Kuta or the capital city of Denpasar. Projects - Yayasan Mimpi Nusantara Bersinar (Dream of a Shining Archipelago) The foundation is a non-profit organization, which is dedicated to improving the Education and Educational System in Bali. The organization is also active in child protection and is a member of ECPAT Indonesia and is engaged in cultural preservation. Mostly our programs are structured around educational facilities and we are working together with a number of government schools and foundations. In addition, we also support a number of orphanages around Bali and work to improve their living conditions and support their educational programs. The foundations Projects in and around Ubud: Pejeng Learning Centre and Pejeng Elementary School The foundation has built a bamboo classroom in Pejeng which is used to hold free after school English classes. There are currently four classes of 10-15 students aged between 5 and 16 years in addition we also have afternoon free English lessons in the nearby Elementary school of Pejeng. All classes are held from Monday to Thursday afternoon.

- Elementary School in Ubud Area In Ubud we are partnering with a number of Government schools in which we are running free English classes. Our volunteers are supporting the school and the teachers in the morning during the schools normal schedule. The exact schedule will be given to the volunteer during the introduction session but usually the classes are held from Monday to Thursday in the morning or sometimes in the early afternoon. There are about 20-35 students in each class. Accommodation Volunteers stay in dorm rooms within a traditional Balinese compound. The compound is located on a side street near the heart of Ubud. It consists of two houses that are shared by the volunteers, each with a fan and western style bathroom. There is also a kitchen with hot and cold drinking water, gas stove and a refrigerator. In front of the houses are communal porches with a table and chairs looking out towards the family compound. There is free Wifi Internet available at the volunteer houses. Around town Ubud is the perfect base to set up activities during your spare time. The city has many travel agencies which offer trips to all of Bali's main tourist sights. Ubud itself also has a lot to offer, it is a centre for culture, fine arts, dance and music and if you like to relax there is large amount of Spa's. Daily shuttle Buses run to all important destinations like, Kuta, Sanur, Lovina, Denpasar Airport, etc. Teaching English; Semarapura (Klungkung) - East Bali Semarapura (often referred to as Klungkung) was once the capital of a large Balinese kingdom and its court along with several other government buildings remain from that period. The city itself is very calm and relaxed and not frequented often by tourists. This provides volunteers and ideal place to live and explore Balinese culture and lifestyle. The area surrounding the city is marked by black sand beaches and rice terraces with a backdrop of Bali's larges volcanic mountain, Gunung Agung. The fishing village of Padangbai, famous for its diving and snorkeling, is only a short drive away. The closest beach, Klotok, is around 15 minutes away and the main tourist district of Kuta and the capital city Denpasar are only a two hour bemo ride away. Semarapura has all the essential amenities such as food markets, hospitals, supermarkets, ATM's, internet cafes, launderettes and pharmacies.

Projects Yayasan Mimpi Nusantara Bersinar (Dream of a Shining Archipelago) The Yayasan Mimpi Nusantara Bersinar (Dream of a Shining Archipelago) Foundation is a non-profit organization, which is dedicated to improving the Education and Educational System in Bali. The organization is also active in child protection and is a member of ECPAT Indonesia, culture and environment preserve. Mostly our programs are structured around educational facilities and we are working together with a number of government schools and foundations. In addition, we also support a number of orphanages around Bali and work to improve their living conditions and support their educational programs. The foundations Projects in and around Klungkung: - The Panti Asuhan Baith-El The orphanage is located in the city of Semarapura. It is a boarding school for more than 100 children from Bali, Sumbawa and other surrounding islands. The classes have around 15 students each and are fairly informal and taught after school. Volunteers are also welcome to join the daily activities of the kids as they stay close to the kids while joining the program. - Project in Paksebali Village In Klungkung we are partnering with a number of Government schools in which we are running free English classes. Accommodation Volunteers will stay in a guest room in the Panti Asuhan Baith-El Orphanage and the room is on the top floor of the building so the volunteers will be able to enjoy a great view of the beach and the highest mountain in Bali the Gunung Agung. Drinking water and a refrigerator are available to use for the volunteers. Bathroom facilities are also available whereat they are equipped quite basic. Around town The fishing village Padangbai, famous for its diving and snorkeling, is only a short drive away. The beach of Lebih is around 25 minutes away from the main tourist district of Kuta and the Balinese capital Denpasar by a bemo (mini van). Klungkung city contains all the main facilities you'd expect from a city such as food markets, supermarkets, ATM's, internet cafes, laundry places and pharmacies.

Teaching English in Gianyar: Gianyar is the capital city of the same named region and it is located just twenty minutes away from the world famous art village of Ubud. Gianyar is not frequented a lot by tourists but it is famous for the local night market and great local food. Due to the location it is very easy to reach Ubud and the world famous surfing beach of Keramas. Gianyar is surrounded by lush terraced rice fields and many small villages and the city itself has all the essential amenities such as food markets, hospital, supermarkets, ATM's, launderettes and pharmacies. Projects - Yayasan Mimpi Nusantara Bersinar (Dream of a Shining Archipelago) This is a non-profit organization, which is dedicated to improving the Education and Educational System in Bali. The foundations Projects in and around Gianyar: - The Panti Asuhan Yappenatim This project is located in the city of Gianyar. It is a boarding school for more than 125 Muslim children from Bali and other surrounding islands. The class has around 10-15 students and is fairly informal and taught after school. The condition of the school and classrooms is quite poor but the students make the difficulties more than worth it. Occasionally, there are also workshops on Fridays where the volunteers make crafts and play games with the students. - Elementary School in Gianyar Area In Gianyar we are partnering with a number of Government schools in which we are running free English classes. Our volunteers are supporting the school and the teachers in the morning during the schools normal schedule. The exact schedule will be given to the volunteer during the introduction session but usually the classes are held from Monday to Thursday in the morning or sometimes in the early afternoon. There are about 20-35 students in each class.

Accommodation Volunteers stay in a modern traditional Balinese compound. The compound is located just outside the center of Gianyar. It consists of three houses that are shared by the volunteers and it has a western style bathroom, which will be shared. There is also a kitchen with drinking water, gas stove and a refrigerator. In front of the houses are communal and traditional porches and places to hang out and relax. Also small beautiful green garden that the volunteer can do yoga or small exercise. There is free Wifi Internet available at the volunteer house. The organization They are completely independent and not affiliated with any religious organization or groups, governments or other institutions who might could influence our strategy. The organization is solely funded by the participant fees which we ask from our volunteers. The fees are used to cover our organizational costs, such as staff, office rentals, volunteer accommodations, taxes, transportation, etc. A significant amount of the participants fee will be used to create and run the projects in which our volunteers are working. Their mission The organization's goal is to help to improve the education and educational system in Indonesia, while at the same time our aim is to create unique volunteer opportunities for people from all over the world. The mission is to: - improve and support the education and the educational system in Indonesia - develop and run volunteer programs which are meaningful and sustainable - increase cross cultural understanding for our volunteers and students Local partners We work together with a number of selected local based NGO's and schools, but our biggest partner is the Yayasan Mimpi Nusantara Bersinar (The dream of a shining archipelago foundation) which strives to support the education of young Indonesians by giving them free english classes as well as providing sholarships and job trainings. Together with this foundation we have created a number of projects in which our volunteers are working. Child protection Unfortunately child abuse and child exploitation are common problems in Indonesia and many other countries throughout South East Asia. We feel the strong need to educate our volunteers about these issues as all of them are working very closely with children. Our organisation is a member of ECPAT (a global network of organisations and individuals working together to eliminate child prostitution, child pornography and the trafficking of children for sexual purpose).

The team Most of the volunteers are abroad for the first time and don't have a lot of experiences, therefore it is very important to have special trained staff available to support our volunteers at any given time. All of their staff are well-trained and available 24 hours a day in case of emergencies. Volunteers are not on their own at the project site and are always accompanied by a trained member of the staff.
