HEALTHCARE In this fast-growing field it is imperative that today s healthcare professionals possess critical knowledge of both modern technologies and human care giving. Training for a job in the healthcare industry can provide a long and emotionally rewarding career. Butler Tech provides adult learners the training and hands-on experience they need to succeed as nurses, medical assistants and medical technicians. Medical Assisting (900 Hours) Our full-time medical assisting program trains students in the classroom and through externship clinical experience to accurately perform administrative and clinical skills in a medical setting. Our students find jobs working closely with doctors and nurses in physicians offices, clinics, medical front offices, insurance companies and medical labs. The curriculum includes anatomy and physiology; keyboarding and MS Word; law and ethics; medical math; medical insurance; medical office procedures; medical terminology; pharmacology; first aid and CPR; employability skills, resumé writing and interviewing. Upon completion of training, students will test for the Registered Medical Assistant Certification. Medical Billing and Coding (606 Hours) This full-time program prepares students to become medical billing and coding professionals in the fast-growing healthcare industry. Students graduating from this program will find jobs in physicians offices, hospitals, clinics, and insurance companies. A medical coder extracts information from a patient s chart and assigns medical codes to identify procedures, diagnoses and any medical equipment as documented in the medical record. A billing professional will use those codes to accurately submit claim forms to insurance companies; appeal payment denials; and post charges, payments and adjustments to patient accounts. The curriculum includes billing and reimbursement; HIPAA and ethics; medical office administration; CPT and HCPCS coding; health data structure and electronic health records; ICD-9-CM medical coding; medical terminology; Microsoft programs; professional practice; employability skills and resumé building. Upon completion of the curriculum, students will test to become Certified Billing and Coding Specialists. Phlebotomy (120 Hours) This program combines phlebotomy theory and practical application necessary to test for the Phlebotomy Technician Certification Exam and find successful employment in hospitals, clinics, physicians offices, and other healthcare settings. Students learn to collect blood samples from patients and perform related technical procedures and associated clerical tasks. The curriculum includes medical terminology, law and ethics, safety procedures, and employability skills in addition to phlebotomy theory and a practicum. As vital members of the healthcare team, phlebotomists work closely with patients and are required to have good communication and organizational skills. Dementia Care (online class) This online certificate course provides essential knowledge and understanding about neurological diseases that affect cognition and memory along with practical application of effective skills for supporting persons with dementia. 6 BUTLER TECH ADULT EDUCATION

Pharmacy Technician (645 Hours) EKG Technician (120 hours) This program emphasizes a combination of electrocardiogram theory and practical application necessary for successful employment and prepares students for the national EKG Technician Certification Exam. An externship is included. Graduates may qualify for employment in hospitals, clinics, physicians offices, and other healthcare settings. State Tested Nurse Aide (79 hours) Nurse Aides are critical members of the healthcare team. They provide direct patient care in hospitals, longterm care and residential care centers, and other healthcare settings. Butler Tech s State Tested Nurse Aide (STNA) program is approved by the Ohio Department of Health and is required as a prerequisite to the practical nursing program. Students learn basic patient care with 16 hours completed at a clinical i llocation. Need a prescription for a new career? Look no further than Butler Tech s Pharmacy Technician Program! Pharmacy technicians review patient information and measure, mix, label, and dispense prescription medications for patients under the supervision of a pharmacist. Our curriculum includes lecture, lab, and an externship portion to give you supervised clinical experiences. Upon graduation from the program, you ll be eligible to take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam. Job opportunities are available in hospitals, medical centers, skilled nursing facilities, private pharmacies, outpatient clinics, and pharmaceutical companies. Practical Nursing (1,400 hours) Many career opportunities exist for LPNs in long-term care facilities, home health agencies, hospice facilities, physicians offices, schools, outpatient clinics and more. Butler Tech s full- experience to prepare students time practical nursing program combines classroom and clinical for the challenging and rewarding opportunities in nursing. This well-respected program is approved by the Ohio Board of Nursing. The curriculum includes basic nursing skills, adult and pediatric health, maternal and infant care, mental health concepts, and gerontological nursing. Once students complete their coursework, they will sit for the National Council for Licensure Exam to become Licensed Practical Nurses. Prior to starting the practical nursing program students must have received their State Tested Nurse Aide (STNA) and taken medical terminology and medical math. INDUSTRY Butler Tech offers full-time programs in Advanced Manufacturing; Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration; Industrial Maintenance, and Industrial Welding. Each of these programs equips students t to achieve professional certifications. In addition, Butler Tech also offers part-time ti classes. Whether you are looking for career advancement or to simply broaden your own skills, our part-time industry courses can help you meet your goals. Typically offered at night and on the weekends, these classes include Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Machine Trades, CNC Operator, Preventative Maintenance, MSSC Certified Production Technician, Introduction to Electricity, AC/DC Circuit Analysis, Introduction to Welding, Blueprint and Schematic Reading, Metrology, Math for Industry, and more. Advanced Manufacturing Technology (864 Hours) This program uniquely combines the latest instruction in high-speed and complex automation processes to help fill the skills gap for today s factories. Students are equipped to achieve professional certifications to meet the demands of changing technologies for Ohio s leading manufacturers. This course blends online learning modules, instructor-led lessons, and handson labs. The curriculum includes automation systems and robotics, basic machining, basic welding, industrial controls, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), industrial electricity, fluid power, industrial mechanics, industrial safety, manufacturing fundamentals, and production processes. In accordance with the Manufacturing Skills Standards Council (MSSC) students will prepare to test and receive certification as a Certified Production Technician. Industrial Maintenance Technology (936 Hours) Industrial maintenance occupations continue to experience a high demand for trained individuals. For those interested in working with their minds as well as their hands, this field offers challenge and reward. In our labs, students practice troubleshooting and gain important knowledge to become industrial maintenance technicians, electrical maintenance technicians, or mechanical maintenance technicians. The curriculum includes AC/DC solid state drives; industrial electricity; motor control wiring and troubleshooting; programmable logic controllers; fluid power; mechanical maintenance; process control systems; and single and three-phase motor systems. Students prepare and test for the following industry credentials issued by the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER): Core Certification and Industrial Maintenance Electrical & Instrumentation Certifications Levels 1, 2, 3, & 4. 8 BUTLER TECH ADULT EDUCATION

MSSC Certified Production Technician The Manufacturing Skill Standards Council s Certified Production Technician program is an industryled training, assessment, and certification system focused on the core skills and knowledge needed by the nation s front-line production workers. This program is being offered through Butler Tech in our state-of-the-art facility. One goal of the program is to raise the level of performance of production workers to assist individuals in finding higher wage jobs. It teaches the core technical competencies needed by higher skilled production workers in all sectors of manufacturing. The nationwide MSSC System, based on industry defined and federally endorsed standards, offers both entry-level and incumbent workers the opportunity to demonstrate they have acquired the knowledge and skills needed in the technology intensive jobs of the 21st century. The CPT program consists of five individual certificate modules: Safety; Quality Practices & Measurement; Manufacturing Processes & Production; Maintenance Awareness; and Green Production (new - optional). CPT is a blended learning program delivered using both instructor-led and online courses that are media rich and engage students while teaching important concepts about manufacturing. MSSC will award the full CPT certification to students who pass the first four modules of the program. Industrial Welding (624 Hours) Because of its strength, welding is used to construct and repair bridges, skyscrapers, ships, automobiles, spacecraft, medical equipment, and thousands of other manufactured products that make modern society viable. This full-time program provides a solid foundation in theory and practice for a career where welding is an important component. The curriculum includes flux core arc welding (FCAW), gas tungsten arc welding (TIG), shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), gas metal arc welding (MIG), oxyfuel cutting (OFC), plasma arc cutting (PAC), air carbon arc cutting (ACAC), and shop safety. Students who complete the program will gain the knowledge and skills to test for the following industry credentials: AWS D 1.1 Structural Certifications (3-G and 4-G), NCCER Core Curriculum, NCCER Welding Level 1 and 2, and OSHA 10. Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (648 Hours) Butler Tech students are taught current skills necessary to thrive in the demanding, high tech field of commercial and residential heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration systems. Classes are a combination of lecture and hands-on training that allows the student to gain practical experience. The curriculum includes complete systems repair, installation, schematic reading, electrical theory, refrigerant handling, systems diagnostics, and wiring and controls. Both day and evening classes are available. Students prepare and test for the following certifications: EPA 608, R410a, OSHA 30, and the Industry Competency Exam (ICE). Butler Tech offers students t state-of-the-art t th t instruction ti and training i facilities along with multi-media classrooms, an indoor twenty-lane firing range, physical fitness facilities, and computerized firearms and driving simulators. Basic Police Academy (680 Hours) If the words to protect and serve echo in your head as you think about a new career, our Police Academy can take you to the front lines of law enforcement in Ohio. Butler Tech s Basic Police Academy is an approved Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy and our program is one of the top in the state. Our instructors are recognized experts in local, county, state and federal law enforcement and we challenge our students to meet high academic and physical demands. The Basic Police Academy teaches through real-life scenarios and hands-on instruction. At graduation, students have the experience to serve in a variety of law enforcement professions such as police officer, deputy sheriff, state agent, state investigator and park ranger, and will qualify to test for the Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission Certification. Students must be at least 20 1/2 years old at the start of the academy and must meet with an academy coordinator before registering for the program. Paramedic Academy (1,000 Hours) As the highest level of pre-hospital care, paramedics play an essential role as part of the professional healthcare team. Utilizing the current national standards, this Butler Tech program will allow you to develop the knowledge and expertise to make a difference in patients lives and move your career to new heights. Butler Tech prepares students with a challenging program that combines classroom and laboratory instruction with a solid hospital and field externship. Classroom topics cover anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology, medical terminology, patient assessment, medical trauma emergencies, and advanced care. Time outside the classroom will be spent in various settings like hospital emergency rooms, fire departments, labor and delivery, and dispatch. Private Security Academy (160 Hours) This class provides students with the knowledge and skills to become a security officer. The curriculum includes the role of private security, overview of the legal system, criminal law, laws of arrest, search and seizure, public relations, unarmed self-defense, dealing with special needs persons, report writing, physical security, first aid/cpr, retail security, personnel security, crime prevention, fire safety, and patrol techniques. After completion of the program, students will test for the State of Ohio certification exam. 911 Dispatcher (40 Hours) Butler Tech s five-day 911 Emergency Dispatcher Program trains emergency service operators to receive and process emergency calls in police departments, fire departments, airports and other agencies that require emergency response. After completion of the curriculum, students are eligible to test for the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians to become certified in the state of Ohio. Employment opportunities are available with fire departments, private ambulance services, hospital emergency rooms, and blood banks. Prerequisites for this program include Anatomy and Physiology for the Paramedic Student and a State of Ohio EMT Certification. 10 BUTLER TECH ADULT EDUCATION

Emergency Medical Technician (180 Hours) An Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) is on the front line of pre-hospital care. City fire departments, rescue squads, private ambulance companies, and corporate entities use the services of the EMT to render first aid and emergency medical care while at the scene of an emergency and during transport to a hospital. Typically, an EMT is one of the first responders on the scene and will assess the nature and extent of the injuries or illness, provide the appropriate emergency care, and determine transportation needs. EMTs manage airway and breathing problems, control bleeding, treat shock, and more as they stabilize patients prior to transporting them to medical facilities. This course is designed for the individual who wants to become an EMT or obtain his/her EMT Certification as a prerequisite to attending the Paramedic Academy. Classroom and clinical experiences prepare students for this certification. They will receive training in CPR, EMS operations, medical emergencies and management, trauma emergencies, and many other topics required by the State of Ohio. Law Enforcement Institute The Butler Tech Law Enforcement Institute offers specialized courses and customized training for police officers, court personnel, private security companies, and social service professionals. See www.butlertech.org for more information. Fire Rescue Academy (626 Hours) Skilled and uniquely dedicated people serve Ohio s communities as fire rescue personnel. If you have the passion and interest to make a difference as a firefighter, Butler Tech s Fire Rescue Academy will prepare you for this rewarding and challenging career. Our experienced faculty leads intensive study in fire, EMS, technical rescue, emergency vehicle operation, and hazardous materials incidents. Training at our state-of-the-art Regional Public Safety Education Complex includes up to 40 hours of experience in our propane-fueled fire tower. Butler Tech offers the only evening fire rescue academy in Ohio. A day program is available, as well. Graduates will test for the following credentials: State Fire Levels I & II Certifications, EMT Basic Certification. Other Public Safety Offerings Fire and EMS Courses Part-time classes are available for volunteer firefighters and Ohio Level I and Level II Firefighters, as well as, a Fire and EMS First Responder program. We also offer a NEW RN to Paramedic program, Anatomy and Physiology, Confined Space Rescue Technician, Hazardous Material Technician, Rope Rescue Technician and more. These programs require WorkKeys testing prior to admission and are eligible for financial aid for those who qualify. Public Safety programs require a pre-admission interview. Don t let anything hold you back. Financial aid options include: Pell Grants Pell Grants are provided based on need. They do not have to be repaid. Direct Loans Subsidized and unsubsidized loans are available for students who are eligible. Repayment usually begins six months after you leave school. Plus Loans Plus Loans are for parents of dependent students only. They are not need-based. Repayment begins while the student is still in school.
