Refunds and Cancellations No refunds will be made after the first class unless the class is discontinued by Southern Hills CTC. Registered students will be notified in the event the school cancels classes. Classes without adequate enrollment will be canceled or postponed. School Closing/Class Cancellation If Adult Education Classes or activities are canceled, an announcement will be made after 2:00 p.m. Please listen to local radio/television stations for ADULT EDUCATION / Evening Activity Cancellations. Discounts Senior Citizens (age 62 or older) are eligible for a discount on adult education classes. Senior citizens receive a 50 % discount on tuition for adult classes costing $50 or more. Prices -- Prices are subject to change. Please verify course cost when registering. GENERAL INFORMATION Age Requirements Adults must be 16 years of age or older to enroll in an Adult Education class. Those enrolled in an area high school must provide evidence of good standing from the high school. Check each class for enrollment criteria. The Youth Enrichment programs are designed for children ages Withdrawals Withdrawals from classes must be completed before the first class for a full refund, less a $10.00 processing fee. Withdrawals must be made in person. Allow at least six weeks for any refunds. Additional Offerings Our intent is to serve our community. If you are interested in another course that is not offered, please contact the Adult Education Office. Your name will be placed in our interest file, and when we have sufficient interest, we will attempt to offer the course you have requested. Certificate A certificate of completion will be awarded to each student successfully completing the course requirements per satisfaction of the instructor. Payment for class must be received in full to obtain a certificate. FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE MASTERCARD/ VISA We gladly accept your MasterCard/Visa/Discover and debit cards for payment. A service charge of 3% applies to all credit card payments. B.V.R. (BUREAU OF VOCATIONAL REHABILITATION) Your disability may qualify you for training money. Check with the local BVR office. 3 COMPUTER TRAINING INTRODUCTION TO COMPUTERS/ KEYBOARDING Introduction to Computers is an overview course for those with little or no computer knowledge. This hands-on course focuses on operating the computer with an overview of word processing, spreadsheet and introduction to the internet. Learn to prepare word processing documents, enhance documents with formatting changes, insert graphics, WordArt and clip art. Learn to merge data bases with form letters, mailing labels and envelopes. Starting dates: Oct. 5, April 18 M & W 6:00-9:00 p.m. 3 wks 18 hrs $125 MICROSOFT EXCEL Learn Microsoft Excel. Learn to create and edit worksheets and charts. Learn to format cells, utilize formulas and customize the appearance of worksheets. Learn to create documents such as letterheads, business cards, brochures, and fliers using Microsoft Publisher. 4 TECHNICAL AND TRADE WELDING (BEGINNING) Students will need to supply equipment such as helmet, chipping hammer, glasses, etc. Related technology includes shop safety, fusion of metals, and identification of electrodes and equipment setup. Practice of running beads on flat, horizontal, vertical and overhead surfaces and joints. The metering devices, condensers, evaporators, testing instruments, fitting and tools for refrigeration and air conditioning, electrical components, and control motors will be discussed as they relate to the subject. Starting dates: Nov 12, Jan 21 Thursdays 6:00-9:00 p.m. 5 weeks 15 hrs. $110 CERTIFIED PRODUCTION TECHNICIAN Prepare for a career in the ever changing field of manufacturing and machine trades. Manufacturing is central to America s economic strength and offers many jobs that are some of the best in the country. This course utilizes the Manufacturing Skill Standards Council (MSSC) curriculum and credentialing to cover the four critical production functions: Safety, Quality & Continuous Improvement, Manufacturing Processes & Production and Maintenance Awareness. After successful completion of each of the four modules, students will take an assessment for certification. After passing all four modules and certification assessments, students obtain the designation of Certified Production Technician. This course is held in conjunction with the University of Cincinnati s East campus. Class is held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at Southern Hills Career and Technical Center, while two labs are held for students to obtain hands-on instruction at the UC East Manufacturing Lab in Batavia. In this comprehensive course, students are taught to recognize and treat those who suffer from the simplest musculoskeletal injury to life threatening heart attack and stroke. Course consists of classroom, practical skills, lab and clinical time. Upon the successful completion of the course, students are required to pass the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians exam for certification. FIRST RESPONDER ODPS Certification Number: 147 Emergency response training for persons likely to be the first on the scene of a medical emergency. The First Responder Course covers assessment and treatment of ill and injured persons before the arrival of the ambulance. 6 CERTIFIED NURSE AIDE The Nurse Aide course is an approved training course by the Ohio Department of Health for nursing home aide training. Topics covered in the course include basic nursing care skills, basic restorative services, infection control, mental health and social service s needs, communication skills, safety, emergency procedures & CPR, and residents independence and rights. Upon successful completion of the course, students must then pass a state certification exam to become a Certified Nurse Aide. Additional registration forms and procedures required. The purpose of this course is to assist the student in gaining an understanding of medical terminology. The student will learn the component parts of medical terms -- roots, prefixes and suffixes. The medical terms related to each bodily system, and the medical terms related to the diseases and abnormal conditions of each system are discussed. Abbreviations, laboratory tests and procedures are also dealt with.
