3 Take a closer look at some of our most popular career training courses: HVAC Monday-Friday 8:30am-3:30pm 300 hours/2 months Training in air conditioning, refrigeration and heating. Designed as a pre-apprenticeship or mechanic training, students successfully completing the program will be equipped to enter the field at the apprentice level. Student s will also take an EPA approved Refrigerant Transition & Recovery Certification Examination. There is a mandatory orientation required to enroll in this course. Automotive Service Technician Monday, Tuesday, Thursday 5:30pm-9:30pm 200 hours/4 months Learn the basic systems, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of automobiles. You will practice your skills in our fully equipped shop with our professional mechanic/instructor. Training includes shop safety, using lifts and shop equipment, diagnostics, lubrication service, brake, exhaust, suspension & steering, electrical and cooling systems and engine tune up service.
4 Carpentry 1 & 2 Tuesday, Thursday 6:00pm-9:00pm 54 hours (combined) / 3 months (combined) Carpentry 1: Develop basic carpentry skills using hand and power tools. Create class projects that require selection of lumber and other materials. Design and build basic projects in class. Carpentry 2: Swing a hammer and learn the basic principles of construction framing for new houses or home alterations. Acquire the skills to build stud walls, create window and door openings, cut roof joists and rafters, sheathing and stair stringers. Cosmetology Monday-Thursday 4:30pm-9:30pm 1010 hours/16 months This program prepares students for a career in the creative field of Cosmetology. The course fulfills the New York State 1,000 hour requirement necessary to qualify for the New York State licensing examination. Modules of instruction consist of all phases of Cosmetology including a salon clinic as well as State Board preparation. Textbook & Kit Fees Included. Any additional fees are the students responsibility, such as additional supplies and the respective New York State licensing exam. 5 NYS Teacher s Assistant Test Prep Monday 5:30-8:30pm 33 Hours / 4 months This course will prepare students in reading, writing, math and instructional support, the four categories on the NY State Assessment of Teaching Assistant Skills (NYSATAS). Anyone seeking certification as a teaching assistant since February 2, 2004 will be required to achieve a qualifying score on the NYSATAS exam. Becoming a NYS Teacher s Assistant is a great way to explore the field of education. This course walks you through the certification process and the many steps that are required. For more information on the state qualifications visit their website at Electrical 1 & 2 Monday or Thursday 6:30pm-9:30pm or Saturday 8:30am-11:30am 54 hours (combined) / 4 months (combined) ELECTRICAL 1: This course in residential applications, useful in all trades, is perfect for students who have little or no previous knowledge of trade electricity. Learn and practice wiring, circuits, use of tools, diagnostic procedures, safety precautions, reading diagrams and locale requirements. ELECTRICAL 2: Continue your exploration of and training in residential electricity with voltage and amperage calculations, circuit breaker panels and feeders to sub-panels with related service entry equipment, bending conduit, special purpose outlets for dishwashers, clothes dryers and ovens.
6 LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) Full Time: Monday-Friday 8:30pm-2:30pm 10 months Part-Time Day: Monday-Thursday 8:30am-12:30pm 20 months Part-Time Eve: Monday-Thursday 5:30pm-9:30pm 20 months Practical Nursing Graduates are in demand, and recent grads are reporting entry-level earnings of over $43,000. LPN is a 10-month Fast Track Full-time Day or 20-month Parttime Day/Evening program, starting September and ending June. Receive clinical experience in hospitals and skilled nursing facilities as well as classes in nursing theory, anatomy, medical/surgical nursing, pediatrics, obstetrics and the administration of medication. Practical Nursing students qualify for the NY State Certified Nurse Assistant examination. Students completing the Southern Westchester BOCES program earn a Practical Nursing License by passing the National Council Licensing Practical Nursing Exam. The following are required for acceptance into the Practical Nursing Program: Submission of a complete application package. Acceptable scores on the SWBOCES LPN Entrance exam (please contact the school for the schedule of exam dates) Successful completion of the interview process. Download the LPN Application at Application deadline is May 2014, or when entrance exam sessions are filled. Financial Aid Available to Qualified Candidates CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) Day: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday 8:30am-3:30pm Evening: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday 5:30pm-8:30pm 137 Hours / 2 months This program includes both classroom training and clinical practice. Enrollment is limited. Students successfully completing this course become eligible to take the NY State Certified Nurse Assistant Exam, given at our campus.
7 CMA (Certified Medical Assistant) Monday- Wednesday 5:30-9:30pm 180 Hours/ 4 Months Prepare for employment in medical offices, hospitals, labs and other health related facilities. Topics include infection control, safety, medical emergencies, body systems, medical terminology, assisting with the physical exam, measuring vital signs, basic electrocardiography (EKG), phlebotomy, routine lab tests, patient communication and the role and ethical responsibilities of Medical Assistants. This course includes live venipuncture and capillary puncture in class. Participating students and volunteer subjects must sign an Acknowledgement of Risk form. The National Healthcare Association offers a national certification for those who successfully complete the Clinical Medical Assistant Program. An additional fee will apply if you are eligible upon completion of this course. MOM (Medical Office Management) Tueday & Thursday 5:30-9:30pm 100 Hours/ 3 Months Medical Office Management will allow you to step into a good paying job in a medical office, hospital or other health related office. Upon successful completion of this National Health career Association (NHA) approved program, students will be eligible to take the NHA certification test for Billing and Coding Specialist and/or Medical Administrative Assistant. Topics of instruction include: ethics, medical records, medical terminology, medical billing, ICD/CPT coding, health insurance, billing and collections, office management and patient file management systems. Basic computer skills necessary!
8 Pharmacy Technician Monday & Wednesday 5:30-9:30pm 80 Hours/ 3 Months This course includes instruction in pharmacy related medical terminology, reading and understanding prescriptions, generic and brand names, dosage calculations and conversions, drug compounding, IV flow rates, dispensing prescription medications, inventory control and billing and reimbursement. Students successfully completing this course will be prepared to sit for the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board certification exam. Phlebotomy and Electrocardiography Thursday 5:30-9:30pm 80 Hours/ 4 Months Learn the skills and responsibilities of the professional Phlebotomist and EKG technician. Topics of instruction include universal precautions, capillary punctures, complications of phlebotomy and special procedures and more. Then study the principles of electrocardiography and train to perform a 12 lead EKG. Understand the relationship of the conduction system to the cardiac cycle. Learn to prepare patients for EKG, identify dysrhythmias, recognize technical errors and react to emergency situations. This course is a combination of theory and practical training.
9 Welding 1, 2, 3 WELDING 1 Monday & Wednesday 6:00-9:30pm 28 Hours/ 1 Month Learn and practice tack, flat and vertical position welding in a small class environment. Gain an understanding of the proper welding rods to use and practice oxyacetylene cutting for weld preparation and fit-up. WELDING 2 Monday & Wednesday 6:00-9:30pm 28 Hours/ 1 Month Refine and practice techniques learned in ARC Welding 1. New topics include pipe welding, overhead and vertical welding, and oxyacetylene cutting WELDING 3 Tuesday & Thursday 6:00-9:00pm 21 Hours/ 1 Month Expand your welding skills with the basics of metal inert gas (MIG) and tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding. You will gain skills through practice at making smooth butt, tee and corner welds and how to set up the welding machine for various applications.
