12 STUDENT SERVICES CAREER COUNSELING Choosing a career or making a career change can be a daunting task, but our career counselor is here to help. By assessing basic information, your motivations, interests, talents, and past experiences, we can help you choose a successful and rewarding career. Students receive additional support through academic and community resources, resume and interview training, and job placement networking. To schedule a visit with our career counselor call INFORMATION SESSIONS Information Sessions are an excellent opportunity for potential students to learn specific details about desired programs. Sessions are held weekly with a program manager and vary per program. Information includes the admissions process for the program, prerequisites, financial aid and funding resources, and a tour of the facility and classrooms. Call for days, times, and to register. PREREQUISITES All full-time and some part-time classes have prerequisites that must be completed prior to enrollment and registration. Prerequisites vary per program and are outlined online at butlertech.org or in our Information Sessions. FREE classes in GED and WorkKeys preparation, basic computer skills, study skills, career readiness, and English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) are available through Butler Tech s Adult Basic Literacy Education (ABLE) program. Please consider the length of time it takes to complete prerequisites when reviewing your desired program s start date. WORKKEYS ASSESSMENT PRE-ENTRANCE EXAMS WorkKeys Assessments are required for admission to all full-time and some part-time programs. WorkKeys, a computer based test consists of three assessments - Applied Math, Reading for Information, and Locating Information. All testing is done at D. Russel Lee Career-Technology Center. Cost is $78.00 ($26.00 per test). Each program has a minimum WorkKeys test score that must be met by the student before starting the class. If the test score is not met, a student can re-take the individual assessment to reach the needed score. Each assessment can be taken up to three times in one year to qualify for a program or the student must wait a full year before reapplying. Prior to taking the ACT WorkKeys Assessments, students should consider taking an ACT KeyTrain class for optimum success. KeyTrain classes provide targeted curriculum designed for the specific purpose of improving ACT WorkKeys skills. Offered either online or through Butler Tech s Adult Basic Literacy Education (ABLE), these FREE classes are recommended prior to taking the first exam. Testing fees are not included in the tuition or fees. Seating is limited and registration will close three business days prior to the test date. Please indicate your program of interest at the time of registration. Students must bring a picture I.D. on the date of the test. Students without a picture I.D. will be rescheduled for the next available test date. Visit butlertech.org or call for exam pricing, schedule, and registration. BCRTA Expands Service to Butler Tech!
