What is SSL VPN SSL VPN is a more secure way to connect to Meredith systems when you are not at a Meredith office building. In other words, when working at home, this is a more secure way to connect to the office. Signing into Meredith s SSL VPN 1. Connect to the internet. This can vary based on where you are. You can use the Hotel internet access, your home internet access, or even ipass dial-up access. 2. Launch the Internet. 3. In the Address Line, type in extranet.meredith.com. Note! Do Not type in www. 4. Enter your username and password. You will use the same username and password that you use for logging into the computer at work. If you do not use Network Connect, click the down arrow from the Options drop-down field and select Default. If you use Network Connect, click the down arrow from the Options field and select Network Connect. 5. Click Sign In. 6. If you chose......default from the Options list, continue to Step 7....Network Connect from the Options list, an application called Host Checker will perform security checks on your machine. Note! This process may take several minutes. If you are using a non-meredith machine......you may need to click the Security Warning at the top of your browser window - allowing the JuniperSetupClient to run Active X Control. From the Security Warning dialog box, click Run. Tips & Tricks 2 Version 3-2.12

6. If your computer fails to meet Meredith s security standards, the Host Checker message will appear - explaining why your computer failed the security scan. Note! Even though your computer failed the security scan, you will be allowed to continue logging into Meredith s VPN web site; however, some of the site s features may be disabled (i.e. Network Connect). If you are using a Meredith machine 1. Click Continue from the Host Checker message. 2. From your Web Bookmarks, select Helpdesk to create a IT Help Desk email explaining the error message you received when logging into SSL VPN. If you are using a non-meredith machine, you can... (Not Illustrated) 1. Fix the errors on your machine, as outlined in the Host Checker message; then click Try Again to re-run Host Checker. OR 2. Click Continue from the Host Checker message. You will be able to use the Meredith VPN portal with limited capabilities, until you are able to fix your computer to meet Meredith s security standards. Version 3-2.12 Tips & Tricks 3

7. The web page will display all the areas you can access using SSL VPN. Webapp - everyone will have access to webmail through SSL VPN. If the only thing you are going to use is webmail, then do not use this method. Instead just open a web browser and type in webapp.meredith.com. If you will need to access files, etc. use the webmail through SSL VPN. Files - the items displayed are based on your location and what server access you have. Not everyone will display the same items. These are the server locations for H:, (Home) R: (Publish), S: (Corp), T: (Broadcast), and P: (Public). Network Connect - this will allow you to run other applications that are loaded onto your machine and need server access. 8. You can always come back to this page, by clicking the Home button. 9. When you are done, you must click Sign Out. Using Webapp Use webapp through SSL VPN if you are planning on using other features of SSL VPN (for examples access server files). If the only thing you will be using is webmail, then use the standard method of access: webapp.meredith.com. 1. Click on the link for Outlook Web Access. 2. Enter your username and password. This is the same username and password that you use to sign into the computer at work. 3. Click Log On. Note! Webapp will work the same was that is does when you use webapp.meredith.com. Tips & Tricks 4 Version 3-2.12

Using Server Files You can access files that are stored on a server when using SSL VPN. Downloading Files from the Server 1. On the Files section, click on the server you wish to access. Note! The servers displayed are based on your location and what server access you have. SSL VPN - Windows 2. The folders and files that are stored on the server will then be listed. To view the contents of a folder, click on the folder. 3. Click on a file name to open the file. 4. When prompted, click Save. 5. Save the file to a location of your choice that you can easily access. 6. Open the file to view or change the file as necessary. Version 3-2.12 Tips & Tricks 5

Uploading Files to the Server Files that are either new or files that were downloaded and modified can be uploaded. 1. Before uploading a file, make sure you are in the server and folder where you want the file stored. See pages 3-4, steps 1-2 on how to view contents of the File Servers. 2. Click on Upload Files. 3. Click on Browse. 4. Find the file to upload, select the file, and click Open. Tips & Tricks 6 Version 3-2.12

5. The file will be listed. Note! Additional files can be uploaded if necessary. All items that are uploaded in one step will be added to the same server folder. 6. When all files are listed, click Upload. 7. A Status window will open giving the status of the upload process. How long it takes to upload files depends on the file sizes and the connection speed. Once all the files are uploaded, click Close. 8. The files will display in the folder on the server. Note! If the file name already exists, the newly uploaded file name will be renamed with the current date. This is also the case if the file had been downloaded earlier so modification could be made. There will now be 2 versions of the file in the folder. Make sure to delete the older file if it is not needed. Version 3-2.12 Tips & Tricks 7

Network Connect Network Connect will allow you to run other applications that are loaded onto your machine and need server access. Note! The first time you connect using Network Connect on a non-meredith machine, software will be installed. It may take longer for the connection to be established. 1. Click Start for Network Connect. 2. The process for launching will begin. Depending on your connection speed this may take time. Note! If this is the first time you are running Network Connect on a non-meredith computer, it will need to install software and it will take extra time. 3. The Network Connect window will display showing that you are connected. It will automatically hide once the connection is completely established. When the Network Connect window is hidden, the icon will display in the notification area of the taskbar. To view the window again, click on the Network Connect icon. Sign Out of Network Connect When you are done, you must sign out. 1. Click on the Network Connect icon in the taskbar (see image above). 2. Click Sign Out. Tips & Tricks 8 Version 3-2.12
