Manual of UPClink VPN.UPC.EDU (For Windows 7) SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS Required software: - Windows operating Systems Windows Vista Service Pack 1 or 2 for 32/64 bits Windows 7 for 32/64 bits Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3 for 32/64 bits Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 3 - You must be logged on with a user account that has administrator privileges - Java version Java SUN JRE6 or higher - Browsers Internet Explorer 8.0 or higher Internet Explorer 7.0 or higher Firefox 3.0 or higher UPClink (v.0.1) Page 1 of 12 [ https://vpn.upc.edu ]

How to use UPClink UPClink is a service of the UPC (Universidad Politècnica de Catalunya) that allows you to access from the outside to the UPC resources using only a web browser. - The page you have to access is different depending if you are a member of the Faculty and Administration Staff or if you are a student: Faculty and Administration Staff (PAS, PDI): https://vpn.upc.edu Students and PhD students: https://vpn.upc.edu/estudiants - Log in with your UPC credentials, the same you use for the UPC intranets. UPClink (v.0.1) Page 2 of 12 [ https://vpn.upc.edu ]

- A pop-up window will inform you that the intranet needs to install a program. This is the Active X control, as shown in the next image: - If you are using Internet Explorer, just select the pop-up and choose the first option to install the program (you will only have to do this when you access for the first time) UPClink (v.0.1) Page 3 of 12 [ https://vpn.upc.edu ]

- If you use Mozilla Firefox, a pop-up window will appear asking if you want to install this program. Mark the option Remember this decision and click OK to start the setup: - You will be at the welcome page, click the Inicio button at the Network Connect section: - Your browser will show you a warning to allow the execution of a program. Check the box Always trust software from Juniper Networks, and press Run to start running the application: UPClink (v.0.1) Page 4 of 12 [ https://vpn.upc.edu ]

- The application will start executing after a few minutes: - Depending on your Windows configuration your system may show you a warning window informing that Juniper Networks wants to do changes on our computer. Please, press OK to continue the installation. Also, depending on the security level of our browser you may be asked to allow internet access to the application. Don t forget to select the option Remember this decision and click Allow. UPClink (v.0.1) Page 5 of 12 [ https://vpn.upc.edu ]

- Network Connect will ask us if we want to install the program, here we have to select Always. - When the installation finishes, an icon will appear on the task bar (right bottom of the screen) as shown in the next image. This means that we are successfully connected to UPClink You will be able to connect to the UPC resources the same way you would if you were in the University To verify the connection, double click the Network Connect icon and press Status. You can close your browser if you want to. UPClink (v.0.1) Page 6 of 12 [ https://vpn.upc.edu ]

HOW TO END YOUR UPClink SESSION - If you want to end your VPN session double click on the Network Connect icon and select Log off - If your still have the session active on your browser, you have to close it through the End session icon. A message will inform you that your session has been ended. UPClink (v.0.1) Page 7 of 12 [ https://vpn.upc.edu ]

SOLUTIONS FOR COMMON ISSUES - The connection says Connecting but you can t start the connection: If you have a firewall installed in your computer and the connection keeps showing the Connecting message you have to check your firewall rules to confirm if it allows connections where the origin and the addresses are in the same computer. - I m trying to log in but the following message appears: You don t have enough privileges to install the application This is because your computer login user hasn t got administrator rights. You will have to use a different user with administration rights or log in to a different computer. - Network Connect is still running and I can t log in: This message appears if we haven t closed properly the UPClink session (see page 7 of this guide) and we have restarted our computer. UPClink (v.0.1) Page 8 of 12 [ https://vpn.upc.edu ]

To solve this, uninstall the client through Control Panel> Programs and Features> or Control Panel> Programs>Uninstall. Uninstall all the Juniper Networks programs. Right click on the program and select uninstall. Wait until the uninstall process finishes We recommend to restart the computer after uninstalling the program. Then, we can connect correctly to UPClink. UPClink (v.0.1) Page 9 of 12 [ https://vpn.upc.edu ]

- How to configure a whitelist on Java 7 update 51 or further to use UPClink: Go to Windows start> Control panel> Java: Select the Security tab UPClink (v.0.1) Page 10 of 12 [ https://vpn.upc.edu ]

Click Edit site list and another window will appear: Press the Add button and add https://vpn.upc.edu. Then click OK. UPClink (v.0.1) Page 11 of 12 [ https://vpn.upc.edu ]

Now we can see that the web address is in the white list Select OK and restart your browser to set the changes. Finally, when the Network Connect starts running a message will appear. Select I accept the risk and want to run this application and click Run. UPClink (v.0.1) Page 12 of 12 [ https://vpn.upc.edu ]
