MICHELE G. CYR M.D., F.A.C.P., Associate Dean for Academic Affairs Division of Biology and Medicine, Professor of Medicine, Brown University Dr. Michele G. Cyr, a clinical expert on women s health, educator, and researcher, is Associate Dean for Academic Affairs for Biology and Medicine at Brown University and Professor of Medicine at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. Dr. Cyr has also served in multiple other leadership positions at Brown, including as Director of the Division of General Internal Medicine, Program Director for the General Internal Medicine residency program, Leadership Director for the National Center of Excellence in Women s Health Brown University Women and Infants Hospital, Associate Dean of Medicine for Graduate Medical Education, Associate Dean of Medicine for Women in Medicine, and as a member of the steering committee for the ADVANCE grant at Brown. She currently serves as Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees for Bowdoin College and as a Regent for the American College of Physicians. An advocate for faculty, diversity, mentorship, and advancing women in medicine and science, Dr. Cyr is the recipient of dozens of honors and awards and has given multiple presentations on gender bias and increasing retention and advancement of women and minority scientists. She received her artium baccalaureus degree, magna cum laude, from Bowdoin College and her doctor of medicine degree with honors from Dartmouth Medical School. VALERIE GÜRTLER-DOYLE Ph.D., Head Diversity and Inclusion for Switzerland, Novartis Pharma AG Dr. Gürtler-Doyle drives cross-divisional and cross-functional activities related to diversity and inclusion both internally and externally for Novartis Switzerland operations. She leads the Novartis International Diversity and Inclusion council and was a founding member of the Healthcare Businesswomen s Association Europe. Dr. Gürtler-Doyle is also President of the Swiss Irish Business Network, President of the Swiss Diversity Round Table, is an active blogger in the area of diversity and inclusion, and is an active mentor both within Novartis and externally. Trained as a biochemist in Ireland before moving to Switzerland to join Sandoz, part of the Novartis group, she has held a number of positions of increasing responsibility throughout her career, including launching the company s medical department in China and driving a customer-focused culture change in the Regional Regulatory Affairs Japan Liaison Department. She also directed the company s Global Innovation Quality Productivity (Six Sigma) program and oversaw the implementation of innovative new market access strategies in Europe with significant commercial impact. She also served as Head of Business Alignment at Corp Communications where she was responsible for driving the adoption of social media cross-divisionally with a specific focus on guidelines. 1

KAREN KATEN Senior Advisor, Essex Woodlands Health Ventures and Retired Vice Chairman, Pfizer Inc Karen Katen retired as Vice Chairman of Pfizer Inc and as President of Pfizer Human Health, the company s principal operating group responsible for the discovery, development, manufacture, distribution and commercialization of prescription medicines, in 2007 after a 33-year career in senior executive level positions within the pharmaceutical industry. In addition to being former Chairman of the Pfizer Foundation, Ms. Katen currently serves on the boards of the Harris Corporation, The Home Depot, Air Liquide, Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Limited s Takeda Global Advisory Board, Catalyst Inc., the RAND Corporation s Health Board of Advisors, and ARMGO Pharma Inc. She is also a university trustee and council member of The University of Chicago Booth School of Business. In 2005, Ms. Katen ranked among Fortune Magazine s Top 10 in its ranking of the 50 Most Powerful Women in Business, to which she was named for eight consecutive years. She has also been named Woman of the Year and received similar accolades from civic groups, national associations, and universities 11 times in her career. Ms. Katen is now a Senior Advisor with Essex Woodlands, a healthcare venture capital and growth equity firm. She received both a bachelor of arts degree and master s in business administration degree from The University of Chicago. DONNA KATEN-BAHENSKY President and CEO, University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics Donna Katen-Bahensky is President and CEO at University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics (UWHC). UWHC is one of the nation s leading academic medical centers comprising the UW Hospital; the American Family Children s Hospital; the Wisconsin Carbone Cancer Center, a National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center; and Level 1 trauma and burn centers in Madison, Wisconsin. The 503-bed UWHC is recognized as a national leader in fields such as cancer treatment, pediatrics, ophthalmology, surgical specialties, and organ transplantation. Previously, Ms. Katen-Bahensky served as CEO of the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, as well as the Senior Associate Vice President for Medical Affairs at University of Iowa Health Care. She also served as Executive Vice President and COO at the Virginia Commonwealth University Health System and Medical College of Virginia Hospitals and Clinics. Ms. Katen-Bahensky received her bachelor of arts degree in anthropology and master of science degree in public health administration with an emphasis in health services management from the University of Missouri in Columbia. 2

GERALD LEMA Corporate Vice President and President, Asia Pacific, Baxter International Inc. Gerald Lema is responsible for Baxter International s operations in Japan, Australia and New Zealand, China/Hong Kong, India, North Asia, and Southeast Asia. Mr. Lema has more than 20 years of pharmaceutical, diagnostics, and healthcare experience in Asia, Japan, Europe, North and South America, and the Middle East and Africa. Prior to joining Baxter International in 2005, he held several positions in sales, marketing, and business development at Abbott Laboratories. His most recent position with Abbott was Corporate Vice President, Asia Pacific, and Chairman and Representative Director, Abbott Laboratories Japan, in Tokyo. Mr. Lema earned a bachelor of science degree in engineering from Universidad del Valle, Colombia, and a master s degree in business administration from the Tulane University Freeman School of Business in New Orleans. He is a co-author of Managing Debt Equity Swaps, an article published in Sloan Management Review. He is a frequent speaker on subjects ranging from leadership to strategy and globalization and serves on the board of directors of Catalyst. ROBERT F. MEENAN M.D., M.P.H., M.B.A., Dean, School of Public Health, Chair, Sociomedical Sciences, and Professor Health Policy & Management, Boston University School of Public Health Dr. Robert F. Meenan, Dean of the School of Public Health at Boston University School of Public Health since 1992, also serves as Chair of Sociomedical Sciences and Professor of Health Policy at the university. He previously served as Arthritis Section Head and Director of the National Institutes of Health-funded Multipurpose Arthritis Center in the School of Medicine. Dr. Meenan serves on the Board of Trustees of Regis College, the board of directors of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, and as Vice Chairman of the Board of the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts Foundation. He also previously served as President of the American College of Rheumatology, as Senior Vice President of the Arthritis Foundation, and as a member of the national advisory boards for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. Dr. Meenan is the senior dean in public health in the United States and also the senior dean at Boston University. He received a master s in public health degree in health planning and administration from the School of Public Health at the University of California, Berkeley, a master s of business administration in healthcare management from the Boston University School of Management, and his doctor of medicine degree from Boston University School of Medicine. 3

JEANNINE M. RIVET R.N., M.P.H., Executive Vice President, UnitedHealth Group As Executive Vice President of UnitedHealth Group, Jeannine M. Rivet works with and on behalf of all business segments in areas focused on strategic and business relationship management, customer and public relations, social responsibility, and nursing advancement. Ms. Rivet has held a range of senior leadership positions both at UnitedHealth and other healthcare companies, including as Chief Executive Officer of UnitedHealthcare, Executive Officer of Ingenix, and Chief Executive Officer and President of OptumHealth. She serves on the Executive Council of UnitedHealth Group and numerous industry leadership councils and boards, including the Schwan Food Company, Solutran, the Institute on Innovation in Workforce Well-Being for the National Business Group on Health, the National Association of Manufacturers, the Minnesota Business Partnership, the Minnesota Women s Economic Roundtable, the United Health Foundation, the UnitedHealthcare Children s Foundation, and the policy committee of America s Health Insurance Plans Association. She is a founding member of the Women Business Leaders of the U.S. Health Care Industry Foundation and actively mentors women in business through the Menttium Corporation program. Ms. Rivet received a bachelor of science degree in nursing from Boston College and a master s degree in public health from Boston University. SUSAN SILBERMANN Regional President, Latin America, Emerging Markets, Pfizer Inc Ms. Silbermann leads Pfizer s pharmaceutical operations and 4,000 staff in more than 30 markets throughout Latin America and the Caribbean region. In 2010, Pfizer Latin America achieved more than US$3 billion in revenue and has been a key engine for growth for the company. Since beginning her career at Pfizer in 1988 as a graduate school intern, she has been named to positions of increasing responsibility within Pfizer s national and international marketing and commercial development organizations, including Marketing Director for Pfizer Italy, Vice President of U.S. Pharmaceutical Marketing, and Senior Vice President of Worldwide Commercial Development. In addition to her work at Pfizer, Ms. Silbermann serves on numerous boards, including the Council of the Americas, the Johns Hopkins Carey Business School corporate advisory board, the Catalyst Inc. board of advisors, and the Women s Leadership Board of Harvard University s John F. Kennedy School of Government. She is also a member of Pfizer s Global Women s Council, which was created to develop and promote Pfizer s strategy to attract, retain, and develop women to their highest potential across the organization. Ms. Silbermann earned her bachelor of science degree in biology and French from Tufts University and a joint master s of business administration and master s in international business and French studies degree from the Stern Graduate School of Business and the Institute of French Studies at New York University. 4

JOHN D. STOBO M.D., Senior Vice President for Health Sciences and Services, University of California System Dr. John D. Stobo is responsible for system-wide coordination and communication among the University of California s 16 health sciences schools and five medical centers, collectively referred to as UC Health. Dr. Stobo coordinates policy development and develops mechanisms for monitoring quality and performance. He oversees strategic planning and advocacy efforts as well as the development of system-wide initiatives for UC Health. Dr. Stobo has more than 40 years of leadership experience in the clinical and academic health science fields. He served as President at the University of Texas Medical branch; was the William Osler Professor of Medicine and Physician-in-Chief of the Johns Hopkins Hospital; and served as head of the Section of Rheumatology and Clinical Immunology at University of California San Francisco, where he was also an investigator with the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. His national leadership positions include President of the American Association of Professors of Medicine, President of the American College of Rheumatology, Chair of the American Board of Internal Medicine, and Chair of the American Board of Internal Medicine Foundation. Dr. Stobo was awarded a mastership from the American College of Physicians for his distinguished contributions to internal medicine. He earned a bachelor of science degree from Dartmouth College and his doctor of medicine degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo. 5
