Bauerschmidt graduated cum laude from The University of Illinois College of Law in May, 1990 and received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from The University of Michigan in May, In 1990, he was admitted to the Illinois State Bar. His practice concentrates in the representation of medical care providers involved in government investigations and prosecutions, hospital peer review proceedings, in appeals before managed care providers, in peer review or audit hearings before the Illinois Department of Public Aid, and in disciplinary proceedings before the Illinois Department of Professional Regulation. He also represents medical care providers in negotiating corporate, employment, partnership, management, and joint venture contracts and in the establishment, sale, or purchase of medical practices.

Goldberg earned his J.D. at DePaul University in He is the principle at Goldberg Law Goup, LLC in Chicago where his practice concentrates in representing all types of medical providers in investigations and contested hearings before the Illinois Department of Professional Regulation, Illinois Department of Public Aid, Illinois Department of Public Health, and at Hospital and Professional Society Disciplinary Proceedings. 3 Michael K. Goldberg received his Juris Doctorate in 1992 from the University of Illinois College of Law. He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics from the University of Illinois-Urbana, where he also played hockey for the Fighting Illini. In 1992, Mr. Goldberg joined the Cook County State s Attorneys Office where he prosecuted criminal matters for five years. As an Assistant State s Attorney, he tried twelve jury trials and numerous bench trials. In addition to being licensed to practice law in Illinois, Mr. Goldberg is admitted to the Trial Bar in the United States District Court, Northern District of Illinois. He has been with Goldberg Law Group since In private practice, Mr. Goldberg as argued in the Illinois Supreme Court and in all five Appellate Courts in Illinois. Mr. Goldberg s practice involves a unique of combination of Health Care and Family Law. Since 1997, he has represented physicians, health care providers and other professionals who appear before the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation and the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services. Mr. Goldberg has represented many clients who have faced Medicare and Medicaid audits as well as audits from Blue Cross/Blue Shield and other insurance providers. Mr. Goldberg also represents physicians in hospital peer review and medical staff privileging matters, as well as other civil and criminal matters relating to health care. He travels the entire state of Illinois representing physicians in administrative hospital hearings as well as in the various circuit courts to seek injunctive relief on their behalf. To date, he has argued and presented evidence in administrative and circuit court cases on behalf of doctors subject to medical staff discipline in over 15 counties across Illinois. He has published and lectured widely on areas pertaining to the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation and on medical staff discipline, and has written five chapters on those topics in the West Publication The Law of Medical Practice in Illinois, which are updated by Mr. Goldberg every year. He is also a drafter of the model medical staff bylaws of the Illinois State Medical Society. He is a Panel Attorney with the Federal Defender Program, where he represents criminal defendants in the United State s District Court. In addition, since 2000, after arguing an important grandparent visitation case in the Illinois Supreme Court, and then writing the new Illinois Grandparent Visitation Act, Mr. Goldberg also concentrates his law practice in the areas of grandparent visitation and custody and parent s rights. In 2002, he argued a case on grandparent visitation before the Illinois Supreme Court (Wickham v. Byrne) that invalidated the grandparent visitation law on the books at that time. In 2005, he wrote the new Illinois Grandparent Visitation Act, and also wrote its 2007 amendments. He is widely published and lectures frequently on the topic of grandparent visitation. His Family Law practice extends to all parts of Illinois, and he has brought and defended against visitation petitions in over 40 counties in Illinois. 4 Peter Katz joined Berkeley Research Group after a 17-year career as a state and federal prosecutor and litigator in four of the nation s most respected prosecutorial offices. He brings to BRG a unique perspective to investigations, data collection, and forensic analysis. At BRG, Mr. Katz focuses on governmental and internal investigations in health care and all financial-related matters. He also lends his expertise to assist healthcare, life sciences and medical device entities in establishing, reviewing and modifying their regulatory compliance programs. He also acts as a Monitor and as a member of an Independent Review Organization. Mr. Katz has prosecuted thousands of cases, bringing over 50 to trial, many involving intricate data analysis and expert testimony. In eight years working for Robert Morgenthau at the Manhattan District Attorney s Office, Mr. Katz led some of the most difficult and complex cases in the office specialized in criminal investigations, negotiation and trial advocacy. He developed his investigative and analytical skills during the nine years he spent as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the United States Attorney s Offices in the Eastern District of New York, District of New Jersey and the Fraud Section at Main Justice. He has led numerous complex white collar investigations, including one of the last prosecutions stemming from the demise of Enron. Most recently, he has focused on health care fraud allegations as a member of the Department of Justice s highly acclaimed Health Care Fraud Prevention and Enforcement Action Team (HEAT). Drawing on his background in all areas of investigation, prosecution, and trial, Mr. Katz provides a unique perspective on the coordination between counsel, client, and expert. He works closely with other BRG experts in seeing that BRG s work in its investigations is complementary to counsel s and is based on the full set of known facts, while taking into account all relevant facets of the investigation. 5 Jonathan B. Loiterman is an associate with Lowis & Gellen LLP. His practice focuses on healthcare litigation, including medical malpractice, pharmaceutical and medical device products liability cases involving catastrophic injuries and death. His practice encompasses representation of hospital networks, teaching facilities, physicians, nursing homes, and medical products manufacturers. Mr. Loiterman also counsels a variety of health-related entities on business formation, corporate maintenance, shareholder disputes, and healthcare fraud. Mr. Loiterman's background includes experience in early-stage development of a distributed Electronic Medical Records system incorporating wireless mobile devices, and he continues to have a special interest in Electronic Medical Records systems and their role in healthcare practice and litigation. He has also previously published and spoken on the topic. Mr. Loiterman earned his Bachelor of Science at the University of Wisconsin, Madison in 2003, his M.B.A. in Accounting at Loyola University of Chicago in 2008, and his J.D. (with a Certificate in Health Law) at Loyola University in 2008.

6 Chris Niewoehner, a partner in Steptoe s Chicago office, is a member of the firm s White- Collar Criminal Defense practice. He defends individuals and corporations in all phases of criminal investigations and prosecutions and handles complex civil litigation, with an emphasis on trial work. Most recently, Mr. Niewoehner led the defense team for a former US Congressman over the course of a six-week trial in Arizona involving charges of public corruption, money laundering, racketeering, and insurance fraud. He also has specific experience with government investigations involving health care, financial institutions and pension systems, and antitrust matters. On the civil side, Mr. Niewoehner has focused his practice on intellectual property and commercial litigation. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Niewoehner spent 12 years as an Assistant US Attorney in the US Attorney s Office for the Northern District of Illinois, where he investigated and tried 20 criminal cases, including some of the most high-profile political corruption investigations ever brought in the Northern District of Illinois. His prosecution and eventual conviction of former Governor Rod Blagojevich (see representative matters) garnered international headlines. Mr. Niewoehner amassed an impressive record of substantial jury trials related to health care fraud, financial fraud, tax fraud, money laundering, and racketeering. He served in different supervisory roles during his time in the US Attorney s Office, finishing as Deputy Chief in the Financial Crimes and Special Prosecution section. In addition to his trial work, Mr. Niewoehner has argued five appeals in the US Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit. Mr. Niewoehner has been recognized for his successful prosecutions with awards and commendations from local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies. In September 2012, Mr. Niewoehner received the Director s Annual Award for Excellence, the FBI s highest award for criminal investigations given to only one investigative team each year, for his role in the successful investigation and prosecution of former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich. In October 2012, Mr. Niewoehner received the US Attorney General s Distinguished Service Award. Mr. Niewoehner was honored for his contribution in the successful investigation and prosecution of Former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich.
