JOB DESCRIPTION JAG MULTI-YEAR SPECIALIST Positions Available at Reno and North Valleys High Schools Summary of Responsibilities Identifies, recruits, and instructs students deemed to have a high degree of difficulty of being promoted into the next grade level, achieving graduation, and/or making a successful transition from school to a career with advancement opportunities. Supports the delivery of the JAG competencies to 35-40 high school students, targeting grades 11 and 12. Essential Functions 1. Provides appropriate curriculum and ensures students achieve JAG competencies through classroom instruction; teaches through a variety of methods including lecture, hands-on activities, and team teaching; tailors the program and teaching methods for the needs of each specific student, and implements an intervention strategy for each individual. 2. Collaborates with school counselors, advisors, community resources, JAG Instructional and Web Designers, JAG Coordinator, and JAG Instructors of Record (if assigned) to ensure successful implementation of the JAG curriculum and to consistently build support for academic success, career exploration, goal setting, leadership development, college planning, personal counseling, either directly or through linkages in the community to assist in overcoming barriers to graduation and/or success in the workplace. 3. Ensures an appropriate pool of students by directly recruiting students, and obtaining referrals from an Advisory Committee, school personnel, and parents; holds interviews with prospective candidates and those making referrals to determine, using JAG guidelines, the appropriateness of the prospective student for the program. 4. Administers testing programs including pre-/post-tests and career interest surveys, and document results in the data management system (e-ndms).

5. Establishes and implements a career development plan for all enrolled students, and updates on a regular basis, generally once a month. 6. Analyzes student data and barriers and confers with the Advisory Committee to identify and develop a pool of qualified students in need of intensive academic support such as tutoring, extended learning, mentoring, and counseling. 7. Monitors basic skills improvement through the use of Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) or Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment Systems (CASES); provides academic support and remediation including; access to tutoring, study skills, credit recovery to show gains as students progress towards graduation. 8. Monitors the attendance, credits needed for graduation, college prep course selection, enrollment in advanced placement (AP), and dual credit courses. 9. Serves as a student advocate when collaborating with school staff in developing intervention plans for struggling students and assists in implementing/referring interventions, as appropriate. 10. Ensures positive perceptions of the JAG Nevada program within schools by developing and maintaining positive, effective working relationships with students, families, principals, and school personnel including teachers, administrators, and members of the Advisory Committee. 11. Conducts parent/family outreach and education activities to the students to strengthen family/school partnerships and facilitate career exploration, college selection, and financial planning. 12. Advocates for the program and develops a pool of effective community support resources by working with employers, parents, civic groups, and legislators to build awareness of and support for the program; develops job opportunities, participates in public relations activities, attends meetings and speaks to various community groups. 13. Builds appreciation for teamwork, sense of belonging, and commitment to community service among JAG Nevada students by organizing and serving as advisor to a JAG Nevada Career Association; creates training opportunities through hands-on activities, film presentations, guest speakers, and workshops; assists with civic and social opportunities.

14. Provides students with guidance, counseling, and support within appropriate limits; refers students to additional support services on an as-needed basis; takes responsibility for learning and complying with school policies such as mandated reporting, discipline, attendance, and the like. 15. Collaborates in supporting a smooth transition from 11 th to 12 th grade; partners closely with other JAG Nevada Multi-Year Specialists and JAG Coordinator to support students through continued participation in high school classrooms, as appropriate. Provides opportunities for student activity and engagement throughout the summer, documenting activities in e-ndms. 16. Assists students in finding and maintaining quality employment and/or post-secondary educational programs upon graduation; works closely with students and employers for 12 months after the end of the school year to ensure a satisfactory employment outcome; develops a plan for contacts with non-graduates to ensure effective transition to employment or additional education. 17. Connect the full cohort of students to and/or organize and lead field trips to higher education institutions, business and industry, and other community-based activities and events. 18. Provides supportive services to program participants for the 12-month follow-up period post-high school graduation to ensure successful transition to postsecondary education, employment and/or military. If students are non-graduates, JAG Multi-Year Specialists will provide support services to these students to ensure attainment of diploma or General Educational Development (GED) Examination during the follow-up period. Ensure accuracy of data and continued student support. 19. Complies with all documentation requirements from JAG Coordinator in a timely fashion including student contacts and activities, employer and community organization contacts, and other groups; develop and maintain a well-organized filing and retrieval system for the class. Utilizes e-ndms for developing the student classroom roster. 20. Participates in staff, regional, and statewide meetings, and staff development activities. 21. Complete special projects and duties, as assigned. Additional Responsibilities

1. Performs various school-related functions such as lunch duty. 2. Participates in field trips. 3. Completes special projects and other projects/duties as assigned by the JAG Coordinator. Job Qualifications 1. Bachelor s degree in social service, counseling, business, education, or a related discipline is preferred. Equivalent combination of training, education, and experience may be considered. 2. Must hold a current State of Nevada Substitute Teaching License. 3. Must apply for the State of Nevada JAG Special License (new) in a timely basis to possess at least the provisional JAG license by the beginning of the next academic year. 4. Experience working with youth accompanied by knowledge of child development issues. 5. Skills in human relations, leadership, supervision, and motivational techniques. 6. Ability to work 12 months per year. 7. Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities. 8. Ability to establish the appropriate boundaries while developing and nurturing supportive relationships with students. 9. Ability to educate a variety of constituencies and interested parties about the program by developing ongoing relationships and making formal presentations. 10. Ability to develop curriculum and educational opportunities consistent with the JAG model. 11. Working knowledge of basic computer applications such as word processing.

Reporting: The JAG Coordinator reports directly to the Regional Program Director. Salary and Compensation: Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. The successful candidate will receive the standard package of JAG Nevada benefits, which include medical insurance, 403B and other coverage.
