English Language Camp Ireland
Residential English Programme ELCI is a unique English language school for teenagers in the West of Ireland. We have created an environment which provides a full immersion into the English language. Students acquire new language through morning lessons and then apply it during the daily activities. All parts of the programme are through English and we see a significant improvement in the language skills and fluency of our students at the end of their stay. The Programme: Residential school Three hours of English language lessons daily Multi Activity programme Evening activity schedule Irish teenagers Nationality quotas to ensure English is primary language Students aged 12 to 17 1
The School The school is located on Lough Arrow in County Sligo. With accommodation, classrooms, dining hall and recreation areas all under the one roof students feel comfortable in the small family atmosphere. On the school grounds there is a large sports field which allows us to play volleyball, rounders, tag-rugby and our national sport Gaelic Football 2
Accommodation Each bedroom is en-suite and sleeps 4 or 5 students. Nationalities are mixed to ensure English is spoken. The rooms are cleaned daily and a laundry facility is provided There is a recreation room where students can relax between activities and lessons. The adjacent dining room is where our chef serves 3 nutritious meals daily. Students have access to fresh fruit and other snacks throughout the day. English Lessons Students make excellent progress through small class sizes at ELCI. An average of 8 students per class creates the perfect learning environment. Lessons are designed by our teachers to encourage communication through class debates, movie or newspaper reviews and project work. All our teachers are fully qualified members of the Dept of Education in Ireland and hold qualifications to teach English as a second language. Students take a test and are then assigned to appropriate groups based on level. Many of our students who stay longer than 2 weeks progress to the next language level during their stay. 3
Afternoon Activities: Where language comes to life! Outside the classroom students get every opportunity to practise English. Afternoon activities include kayaking, rafting, horse-riding, surfing, volleyball, archery, rounders, zip-lines. The programme includes a different activity every day. As most of the activities are team based, students must use English to communicate with each other. Listening skills are also very important as students must listen to staff and activity leaders for instructions. Irish teenagers also participate in all activities. Activity location We take advantage of the beautiful setting of the school where we can do water-sports on the lake, zip lines in the largest forest park in Ireland and exploring the beautiful countryside surrounding the school. Parent Feedback: We would like to tell you how happy we feel about the experience Jose had at ELCI. He really enjoyed everything and has great memories. Thank you for your warm welcome and support. Ana, Madrid 4
Evening Activities: The evenings are an opportunity for students to relax after an active day. Staff, Irish teenagers and students come together to play board games, participate in quizzes, have ping-pong competitions, casino nights or simply watch English movies together. Weekend Excursion: On each course students go on a camping trip in the Irish countryside. Pitching tents, foraging for wood and telling stories around the camp fire is the perfect bonding weekend for students. 5
