MuseScore 1. MuseScore is a free music programme which allows you to input a music score using any instrument of the orchestra 2. Junior cert students create dictation questions and can play them as music files 4. Leaving cert students write out the main themes from the set works for visual recognition 5. Leaving cert students 25% practical option use this free programme to input a 4 part score, learn how to make three musical edits (changes), save, close & retrieve the file as part of the practical exam combined with 4 pieces performed on any one instrument

Audio file from audacity Main theme written in musescore

Audacity 1. Audacity is a free audio editing programme this means you can alter pieces of music in the programme 2. Junior & Leaving cert set songs/ works shorten the larger pieces into sections to study in class; shorten into main themes to compare & contrast the excerpts or have audio recognition tests 3. Practical s add a backing track from YouTube and in Audacity you can change the tempo and key or take out instrumental interludes etc. 4. Using a free YouTube downloader called DVD Videosoft you can download any music video and convert to an audio/ mp3 file to use or alter in audacity 5. Also useful for podcasting or creating photostories

EDMODO an online classroom 1. Edmodo is a free online classroom that you create 2. You invite your students to join by using a unique code generated by Edmodo 3. You can then add YouTube links, interesting articles etc as well as audio files and musical scores into folders 4. You can post comments and the students can not only contact you but also each other 5. You can make tests or run polls through Edmodo 6. You can assess students results and run group projects 7. You can also link with other teachers & share information and suggestions for how to teach certain elements

Google Drive 1. If you have a Gmail address then you automatically has a google drive and a YouTube channel 2. Google drive is a set amount of free cloud space on the internet that you can store files and folders than can be assessed from any computer anywhere in the world 3. Unlike hard-drives and usb keys which can fail or break google drive stores all your information online 4. You can also share your files and folders with other teachers or your students and allow them to read only or edit those files you can also put a time limit on how long they can assess or view them 5. This makes group projects and group work in general much easier

IPad - ForScore 1. ForScore is a paid app (3.99) which allows you to view the scores on the ipad 2. It also allows you to annotate on the score 3. This allows me to highlight main themes and note changes to instrumentation or key etc on the score which I can project onto a bigger screen to show the class what to highlight in their own score

Young Persons guide to the orchestra Interactive App 1. Helps when teaching the instruments of the orchestra 2. Shows each family & allows you to hear the whole family and the individual instrument 3. Shows short interviews with the orchestra members answering questions about their instruments and how they play certain techniques etc 4. It also has short quizzes and aural recognition quizzes which help with aural training especially for the Junior and Leaving cert course

Tenuto Tenuto is an app that allows you to work on sight reading and identification of notes/ keys/ chords/ interval etc It is very useful for teaching Theory along side an instrument in private lessons

Notate Me Now This app allows you to write in your own music/ melody using your finger or stylus pen It then transfers it into a digital score and has the option of playing back your melody on the instrument of your choice

Blob Chorus This is an ear training app It has three blobs which each sing a pitch followed by the King You then have to match the correct blob with the king You can make it more difficult for the level of the student

GarageBand This is a paid app 4.99 It allows you to create your own backing tracks with different instruments guitars, drums, piano/ keyboard or strings You can then record your voice or instrument over the backing track and export it as an audio file or mp3 You can also put special effects onto the recording eg reverb or echo or fade in/ out

This can also be used as the 50% option for the Music technology section of the Leaving cert Practical exam to create a backing track and perform against it

Thank you for your time & attention! Any questions??
