TZtouch Software Update Instructions for Application and OS patch If the TZT9/14/BB has software version 4.11 installed then there are three methods available for upgrading to version 4.21. Those options are; Full OS and application, Application with OS patch, and update via a Wi-Fi internet connection. The TZT must have previously been updated to software version 4.11 to use either the, Application and OS patch update, or update via a Wi-Fi connection. If the TZT was not previously updated to 4.11 software, then use the Full OS and Application update method and software. If you are uncertain if the OS in the TZT MFD is current, you must use the Full OS + Application software using a bootable SD card and instructions. The instructions below will walk you through the software update methods using a generic SD card or Wi-Fi internet update. This program package will update the application and part of the OS. A few recommendations to keep in mind: Only update the software while in port, never while underway. Do not attempt to update the software the same day you are planning on using the equipment. We recommend you save all user data, such as marks, waypoints, routes, settings, etc., to an SD-Card prior to updating the software. Always backup valuable user data, such as waypoints, marks, etc. Use the instructions below or see chapter 8 of the TZT operator s manual for full instructions. Saving Routes and Points You must save all routes and points before proceeding to the TZtouch Software Update. Press the [Home] button, select [Menu] then select the [Files]. Set the Export File Format to TZD (native export format) then press the [Export All Points & Routes]: You can either save the routes and points to the preloaded SD-Card containing the charts [SD-Left], or insert a blank SD-Card into the right slot and press [SD-Right]:
Procedures for updating TZ9/14/BB via Wi-Fi If your TZT9/14/BB has a Wi-Fi connection, follow the steps below for updating the software to version 4.21. If you do not have a Wi-Fi connection, please skip to the next section for procedures for updating the software using a generic SD-Card. In addition to the procedures listed below, you can click here to view an instructional video for updating TZtouch via the Internet. Save all data such as waypoints, routes, tracklines, and system settings before proceeding further. See chapter 8 of the operator s manual for full details on how to save user data. Press the [Home] button, then select [Menu] in the upper left side of the screen. Using the RotoKey, select [General Menu].
Scroll down to the bottom of the General Menu, and select the [Update] box next to Check for Software Update. A pop-up message indicating Checking new version availability will appear, as shown in the following images. If the TZtouch software is up-to-date, you will see the following message:
If there is an updated version of software available, a similar message will appear: Select [Yes] to download the software. A new pop-up window will appear, indicating the progress of the download. Download speeds will vary depending on your connection speed. The software upgrade file is about 150 MB, which will take approximately 8-10 minutes with a good Internet connection. When the download is complete, you will be prompted to install the update:
If you are ready to install the software, select [Proceed]. After pressing [Proceed], it will take about 10-30 seconds before the software update process begins. Note: Software updates should only be performed while in port, not while underway. The update process will take a few minutes. During the update process the TZT will display several different screens, and will reboot a couple of times. When the update is complete, the unit will turn off and stay off. The following screens will appear during the update process:
When you are certain the unit has turned off for the last time (wait 1 minute after the unit has shut down to be sure it will not reboot again), turn on the TZT by pressing the power button. Verify the TZT displays the correct version in the lower left hand corner while booting up, as shown in the following screen shot. The TZT is now updated. Repeat these procedures for every TZT in the network. Perform a master reset using the instructions found under the software tab for each TZT MFD. Reload saved data such as waypoints, routes, and system settings. **END**
Procedures for updating TZtouch using an SD-Card Create a Software Update SD-Card Download the update ZIP file from the Furuno USA website (under the Software tab of any TZ9/14/BB product page. Or order program card part # TZT-914-SD1) Unzip the file. You should end up with one folder named FEC. Copy the folder and paste it to the root of a blank SD-Card: Note: You can use any type of SD-Card with a 256MB capacity or higher, but less than 64GB. This SD-Card can be used to update one or multiple TZT9/14/BB s. Note: After using the SD-Card to update a TZT, you may notice the presence of a new folder named System. This is normal and you don t need to delete this folder to update another TZT. Turn ON the TZT. Save any user data such as waypoints, routes, tracklines, and system settings. See instructions contained in the beginning of this document, or refer to chapter 8 of the operator s manual for full details. Once you have saved all data and the unit is operational, insert the SD-Card containing the update files into the right SD-Card slot. When the following dialog box appears, Select [Yes]. After about 30 seconds the following message will appear:
Wait about three minutes until the following message appears: Remove (push in to pop put) the SD-Card containing the update files first (inside the right SD-Card slot), and then select [OK]. Wait approximately one minute. The TZT will reboot one time and shut down. When you are certain the unit has turned off (wait 1 minute after the unit has shut down to be sure it will not reboot again), turn on the TZT by pressing the power button. Verify the TZT displays the correct version in the lower left hand corner while booting up, as shown in the following screen shot. The TZT is now updated. Repeat these procedures for every TZT in the network. It is recommended that you perform a master reset using the instructions found under the software tab for each TZT MFD. Reload saved user information such as waypoints, routes, tracklines, and system settings. If more than one TZT MFD is on the network, waypoints and routes such only be installed in one unit. The system will repopulate the other TZT MFD s when the system is up and fully functional. **END **
