2 nabi OS Installation At a Glance Guide for Windows Introduction nabi OS includes all the benefits of nabi OS 1.1 such as blocking in-app links, supporting multiple kid accounts, smoother swiping in Kidz Mode as well as new features including real-time updates from the Fooz Kids parental dashboard, improvement to freezing and WiFi connectivity, automatic memory management and moving apps to microsd card. Specifically for the microsd card fix, nabi OS allows you to save apps to the microsd card and remove/insert the microsd card, without any risk of damaging the app. However, in order for this upgrade to take full effect, you will need to re-install all apps that were previously saved to the microsd card. To do so, please go to the App Zone, then tap on Downloads and re-install each individual app after the OS nabi upgrade has been performed. A full list of new features and fixes in this update can be found at What you need: 1. PC 2. microsd card PLEASE BE AWARE: This will reformat your microsd card and ERASE all contents on the card. You must back up your content before starting the update. We recommend starting with a new microsd card (minimum 1GB, we suggest 4-8GB so that you may use it for storing videos in the future). 3. microsd card USB Adapter (recommended) OR microsd card Reader OR microsd card Adapter + SD card Reader (most laptop and many printers come with built-in SD card Readers) 4. nabi Tablet and Power Adapter. Installation Overview There are 3 main steps to updating your nabi to OS Step 1: Download the software update to your computer. Step 2: Load the software update to your microsd card (Insert the SD card and double-click the.exe file). Step 3: Insert your microsd card into your nabi and update. THE ENTIRE PROCESS CAN TAKE UP TO 20 MINUTES. 2

3 Step 1: Download the software update to your computer 1. From your computer, go to 2. Click on the Download button and enter your nabi account to begin the download. Step 2: Load the software update to your microsd card Important: Before you begin, make sure you backup the important files on your microsd card. The data on the card will be overwritten. 1. Insert the microsd card with the adapter into your computer. If your computer does not have an SD card slot, use an SD card reader. Confirm that your computer recognizes your microsd card. a. Click on Start Menu icon, then click on Computer. b. In the Computer window, take note of the drive letter of the SD card. (In the example below, the drive letter is (E:)) 2. Locate the downloaded file on your computer ( nabi update1.1.2.exe ) and double-click it. The following pop-up window will appear. 3

4 3. In the drop down box, select the drive letter that is associated with the SD card and click Create. Please note that this process will overwrite any of the existing files saved on your microsd card. 4. Once the files have been transferred over, you will receive a confirmation that the transfer is complete. Click OK. 5. Safely eject your microsd card from your computer. Step 3: Insert your microsd card into your nabi and update Important: Before you begin installation, plug in your nabi power adapter so that you don t lose power during the update process. For easy installation, take off the protective bumper. 1. Power down your nabi. 2. Remove the microsd card from the adapter, then insert the microsd card into the tablet. Properly Inserted Not properly inserted 3. Hold down the Volume button and Power button at the same time for 5 seconds. The update screen will appear. 4

5 4. Scroll down using the Volume button until update system from SD card is highlighted, then press the Power button to select it. The update will begin and will take up to 5 minutes. 5. The update is complete when you see Update operation done! at the bottom of the screen. 6. Restart your nabi. 7. Remove the microsd card from your nabi tablet and you re all done. Note: The very first time you boot up your nabi after updating the OS, it will take about 5 minutes for it to finish the post update process. This only happens once after the update. leshooting 5
