Flexible Spiral staircases require the same small footprint irrespective of how high they are. They can be manufactured left turning or right turning and have a different number of treads per revolution. This means that, as a rule, you can always achieve an efficient staircase. Light Design Spiral staircases normally do not demand extra load carrying constructions provided the landings are not excessively large. Space saving/ Pre engineered A spiral staircase with a radius of 3 and a square landing of 3 4 x 3 4 requires a footprint of only 6 4 diameter. Spiral staircases are a space-saving and effective staircase design. Extended heights require no special stair tower. Spiral staircases can be built very high without any extra supports, provided it can be braced against an adjacent structure. It there is not adjacent structure that can be used, Weland will provide pre-engineered supplemental column supports up to a height of 25. Safe Pre engineered A person who stumbles on a spiral staircase will likely have his or her fall arrested in about 90 degrees of staircase rotation (~3 of height). Escape / Rescue Since spiral staircases are comfortable to descend, an escape can be carried out quickly. Rescue efforts involving a stretcher can also be performed on spiral stairs with a large radius (4 recommended). Knocked down construction The whole spiral staircase is furnished knocked down, in a crate. There are no parts that require a crane to lift. This means that a spiral staircase can easily be installed in cramped spaces, using hand tools, without needing a crane or cherry picker. Easy to erect The spiral staircase consists of parts that are assembled on site. The only tools required are a hand drill, a ratchet and a set of Allen wrenches. Please note! tandard Railings Weland produces four different railings for spiral staircases. The choice of railing depends mainly on where the stairs are to be placed and whether children will be in the area where the spiral staircase is installed. All railing systems are hot dip galvanized as standard. The height of the railing is ~43-1/2 at the nose of the step. Standard Industrial Balustrade Standard industrial balustrade with one baluster per tread is often used for industrial applications. It may also be applied to emergency egress staircases. Round bar railing The round-bar balustrade is exactly the same as the balustrade with tubular infill panels a child-proof alternative with maximum 100 mm opening between the belusters. Additional Handrail Weland industrial spiral staircases with an additional handrail. The alternative handrail is placed under the 43-1/2 high handrail and is usually furnished at a 34 height. Inner Handrail The spiral staircase can also be equipped with an inner handrail. The handrail is placed on the centre tube. Square landings/ Intermediate landings Square landings Square landings are designed as a 90 step-off platform. Different designs are available according to the customer s needs. Intermediate landings Intermediate landings covering 90 degrees are furnished if desired. The perimeter of these landings is circular to match the OD of the staircase. Square landing Standard square landing for placing in corners or affixing to stair well edge. Staircase radius + 50 mm Landing with radius 90 landing with radius suitable for affixing to circular stair well edge. Staircase radius + 50 mm Terminal tread Terminal tread for affixing to an existing stair well edge. 100 Landing railing/end railing As standard the spiral staircase is furnished with an end railing at the rear of the square landing, positioned from the center tube to the periphery of the staircase. Right or left curved staircases Weland spiral staircases are manufactured as right or left turning. Helical Staircases Winding stairs with curved stringers. Treads and railings in the same as for spiral staircases. Winding stairs with curved stringers. Same choice of treads and balustrades as spiral staircases. The staircases can for instance follow the outside or inside of a silo.
