2 Pre-Assembled Stair Installation Instructions Read thoroughly before starting installation 1. Check floors, top and bottom to determine finish floor thickness. Refer to stair plan / specifications to make sure these match. 2. Check bottom step to assure that finish floor will be marked on the bottom riser. Remove landing tread / nosing at top of stair. Volute or turnout newel should be glued and bolted prior to positioning of stair. Use post carton over post for protection. 3. Position stair in well considering wall finish thickness and as detailed in drawings 1 & 2. If stair has intermediate landing see drawing 3 to properly align stair sections. Check for level and scribe or shim bottom step accordingly. Note: Skirt board should be on the subfloor and top of riser down 5/16 (see detail pages attached). Do not shim landing tread above finish floor. Mark and cut stringers as required to match trim. 4. Shim any void and fasten stringers to framing at top of stair first. Screws should be used. NOTE: Stair width has been made to allow for wall finish however some variation in shim thickness may be necessary dependent upon framing tolerances. 5. Shim any void and fasten top riser to header. Fasteners can be concealed by cove moulding. 6. For partial open stairs, check for level at junction of box and open stringers. Some sag in this area is normal due to shipping and handling. Correct this with prop prior to fastening as shown in Drawing For full open stairs, check open side of stair by sighting bottom of stinger. Prop middle as required prior to fastening. NOTE: A slight (1/8-3/16 ) crown above straight is desirable. 8. Place glue cleat behind bottom riser and fasten to floor. Fasten bottom riser to glue cleat. Fasteners can be concealed by finish floor. 9. Shim any void and fasten stingers to studs above and below treads. Box stringer fasteners can be concealed under stair. Screws should be used. 10. NOTE: Install any posts prior to landing tread installation. Install landing tread with glue and fasteners. Box landing tread installations will require trimming length by approximately 3/8. Insert into one side, push down, and slide over into routing in opposite side.
