What are the objectives of the Policy/Strategy/Project/ Procedure/ Service/Function? FUNDING & TURNOVER Cardiff Council funding of 80,000 for 2014/15 is awarded on the basis that it is a one-off transitional award and payment is solely to smooth over the loss of revenue grant from the Council in 2014/15, due to the council moving towards a commissioning model from 1 April 2014. It is offered on the strict understanding that Sherman Cymru will not receive core funding in the future but may apply to the Council for an award under the arts commissioning process beyond 2014/15, subject to confirmation of budget. Council funding specifically supports: 1. The Education & Outreach programme in the broadest sense, including the Youth Theatre. 2. Sherman Cymru to identify new methods of operation within the Education & Outreach programme to ensure its continuity and sustainability beyond 2014/15. 2014/15 One-off transitional funding 80,000 Council funding of 80,000 represents 3.76% of company turnover of 2,125,657 for 2012/13 (accounts not yet available for 2013/14) Other funding: - Arts Council of Wales Revenue 1,145,600 for 2014/15 with a specific remit for new writing and writer development. Receipt of 212k of funding from The BIG Lottery over 2 years to enhance Creative Learning Activity. Plus other smaller grants that increase Sherman s ability to realise Creative Learning potential. GENERAL INFORMATION Sherman Cymru is one of Cardiff s leading cultural organisations and reopened in February 2012 following a 6m redevelopment project to refurbish and enhance its facilities, in particular to improve accessibility both Front of House and Back-stage. The Sherman Theatre has two auditoria, a 452 seat main stage and a flexible studio space that seats up to 150. The company produces and presents an eclectic performing arts programme, including theatre in both Welsh and English and tours within Wales and further afield. Their programme provides a platform for high quality mid-scale leading dance and theatre companies from the UK and internationally, of a size and accessibility not possible for bigger arts organisations in Cardiff.
