The British Academy of Sound Therapy Professional Sound Therapy Training Courses - Australia 2013 Heart centred learning established 2000 n Love what you do n Make a difference to your life and the lives of others n Work in a creative and dynamic way with a modality that consistently demonstrates positive effects n Enjoy a healthy sound business

The British Academy of Sound Therapy and 21st Century Wholing At BAST, we teach a range of methodologies to help improve health and wellbeing in several ways: 1 2 3 4 It is now widely accepted that most illness is stress related. Therefore treatment methodologies that promote relaxation and help reduce stress can be a very effective way to prevent and treat illness. Our research has shown that the BAST method of sound therapy is very effective at reducing stress (please see point 4). As holistic health practitioners and therapists we use the Vedic model of Chakras (energy centres) and Nadis (energy channels) to assess where there may be an excess or lack of energy flow in the system. An imbalance of energy flow may relate to symptoms that a client may be experiencing which can be explored during treatment. This model is rooted in thousands of years of teachings and knowledge. We also assess the overall energy state of the client based on the findings from their case study, body language and how they communicate, etc. The trained therapist or practitioner is then able to create a sonic prescription for the client. The impact of this intervention is then monitored and assessed during and post treatment. Sound therapy is also extremely therapeutic with regard to group and community work. From improvisation and performance to sound-baths, working with identity, meaning and narrative - all can be explored through therapeutic sound work, sometimes resulting in life-changing breakthroughs. Our research has consistently shown positive benefits with regard to community sound work. (3) Therapeutic sound affects neurology and physiology. Research undertaken at BAST (and also independently) has shown that our methodology is 16% more relaxing than conventional relaxation music (1), 6% more relaxing than other treatments such as massage (1), and, on average 64% more relaxing than other general relaxation methods (2). Relaxation reduces blood pressure, heart rate and respiration, therefore it is likely that it also changes neuro-chemistry, lowering the stress hormone, Cortisol, and increasing the amount of NK (natural killer cells) and Immunoglobulin A in the system, helping to improve immunity. 5 With the developing sciences of psychoneuroimmunology and psychobiology we are uncovering more about the interaction between the body and mind, making the combination of sound and reflective techniques perfect for 21st century mainstream and holistic healthcare. All of the BAST methodologies are person centred. This means that we work in a non-directive way to facilitate a wholing process. The main way of working is through reflective practice which enables a client to become more aware of their process as the sound interacts with their system. This interaction can be mental, emotional, physical or spiritual, making sound therapy perfect for imbalances on any level of being. This process is supported by the practitioner, therapist or community sound-worker. It is with the above in mind that BAST have developed a comprehensive portfolio of courses and training to meet the needs of anyone wanting to work with therapeutic sound in a professional capacity. 1. Research undertaken at Mindlab, Sussex University 2. Research by Cook, R (2003), The Effects of a BAST Sound Therapy Session on the Autonomic Nervous System 3. Research by Cooper, L (2009), Introducing the Therapeutic Sound in Schools Programme (TheSiS)

Our Courses are Perfect For Holistic practitioners, artists who wish to incorporate sound into installations, nurses/carers and health professionals, psychotherapists, music therapists, teachers, anyone wanting to extend their skills and discover more about therapeutic sound. We are in the 13th year of training and believe it is important to regularly review and refresh our courses, enabling BAST to remain at the cutting edge of our field. We regularly undertake surveys and market research which ensures that we continue to provide first class professional training and post qualification support. In recent years our hard work has been recognised by the CAM industry with awards such as Best Complementary Medicine Company and Best Spiritual Course. Our striving for excellence results in a high percentage of graduates returning for continuing professional development (CPD) courses and modules. This course enables you to further your career in sound therapy, improve your knowledge and/or add to your existing skills. The five day intensive module is followed by 6 hours of webinar sessions, where coursework and theory will be delivered online from the comfort of your home. All you need is an internet connection and a computer with a mic and speaker. When you qualify with BAST you automatically become a BAST member for life, which means you can benefit from the research and business opportunities, as well as discounts on workshops and courses we offer. BAST is affiliated to the International Institute of Complementary Therapists (IICT). Students are illegible to gain insurance to practice as well as recognition and admission onto the IICT register as well as the STA and the ICNM international registers based in the UK. If you have any further questions or would like to apply for a place. If you prefer to talk to Lyz, please email and a Skype session will be arranged. Lyz Cooper MA.Ed, FICNM Lyz (pictured above) has been working in education for over 20 years, within the holistic health for 30 years and with sound for 18 years. Lyz is a published author who has researched and developed effective techniques for helping to improve health and wellbeing using sound. Lyz s passion and dedication has resulted in her being awarded a Fellowship of the Institute of Complementary and Natural Medicine for her contribution to sound therapy worldwide. In 2011 Lyz was approached by Radox and asked to collaborate with ambient music trio Marconi Union. Her brief was to create a piece of relaxing music for the launch of Radox Spa. Lyz contributed her knowledge to the track, advising Marconi Union where to put the sonic vitamins, as she calls them. Mindlab, based at Sussex University, tested the track against other music and were so impressed with the results, the track was called The Most Relaxing Track Ever. The impact of this track resulted in Lyz giving almost 50 media interviews worldwide and winning Time Magazines Top 50 best inventions of 2011. Lyz co-founded the Sound Therapy Association, an organisation which aims to support all sound therapists and organisations, setting standards and furthering the field. Lyz is currently studying an MSc in Applied Music Psychology at Roehampton University. The BAST team are also experienced tutor/facilitators and researchers. all that remains to be said is thank you for giving me back my life again which I promise you has only just started! client testimonial
