7 th WORKSHOP ON EUROPEAN GEOMAGNETIC REPEAT STATION SURVEY 2014 2015 Budapest, 16-18 September 2015 3 rd CIRCULAR The 7 th Workshop on European Geomagnetic Repeat Station Survey is hosted by the Geological and Geophysical Institute of Hungary, Budapest. The conference is held in the main building of the Institute within walking distance from Danubius Hotel Arena (see the map at the end of this circular). Address: Stefánia út 14, Budapest, Hungary, H-1143 (www.mfgi.hu/en) The webpage of the workshop is: http://magnete2015.mfgi.hu. The page contains a link to Danubius Hotel Arena, where most of you will stay. At the end of this circular we compiled information on how you can get to the hotel when arriving by plane/train/car. AIM OF THE WORKSHOP The MagNetE group was established in Niemegk in 2003. The fundamental aim was to harmonize the practice of the geomagnetic repeat station (RS) surveys carried out by European countries, and to define standard procedures for data acquisition and processing. Repeat station surveys and magnetic observatories yield fundamental data for the modelling of the geomagnetic field of crustal and core origin, contributing to the knowledge of our planet. Additionally, the long-lasting tradition and results of such measurements enable the investigation of the geomagnetic secular variation, as well. The observatory and field measurements of highprecision can also support the scientific aims of spaceborne magnetic missions, such as ESA s SWARM spacecraft fleet. The workshop will focus on (1) the results of RS surveys carried out since the last MagNetE workshop, and the studies related to (2) geomagnetic modelling, (3) short- and long-term geomagnetic variations deduced from measurements and historical records, (4) solar-terrestrial geomagnetic effects, (5) development of methods for data processing and reduction, (6) contribution of ground-based measurements to satellite magnetic monitoring, (7) development of magnetic observatory and field instruments.

The workshop is also devoted to discussions on general topics, such as coordination of future geomagnetic surveys, RS data base and data acquisition, common MagNetE publications, availability of RS data for commercial use, support of know-how and/or facilities among the MagNetE group. LIST OF THE PRECEDING MagNetE WORKSHOPS 2003: GFZ Potsdam, Adolf Schmidt-Observatory for Geomagnetism, Niemegk, 20-21 February 2005: Institute of Geodesy and Cartography (IGIK), Warsaw, 6-8 April 2007: Romanian Academy Institute of Geodynamics, Bucharest, 14-16 May 2009: Finnish Meteorological Institute, Helsinki, 8-10 June 2011: Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia (INGV), Rome, Italy, 9-11 May 2013: Institute of Geophysics of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, Prague, June 3-5 PROGRAMME OF THE WORKSHOP (Detailed scientific program can be found on the workshop website) Wednesday, September 16 Morning: - Registration, Opening the workshop - First scientific session for oral presentations Coffee break - Short introductions of posters Lunch Afternoon: - First invited talk - Second scientific session for oral presentations - Short discussion Coffee break - Poster session Thursday, September 17 Excursion to the Tihany Peninsula and visit of the Tihany Geophysical Observatory (lunch is included) Friday, September 18 Morning: - Second invited talk - Third scientific session for oral presentations Coffee break - Fourth scientific session for oral presentations - General discussion - Closing of the workshop Lunch
